The default parameter should work for you without making any changes. These Parameters are SafeSquid's start-up parameters. The start-up parameters specified by you during the Installation process can be modified, later by using the SafeSquid Service Manager. Remember to Stop & Restart the SafeSquid Service, after you make changes to these parameters. SafeSquid Personal, by default, has been configured to listen on 127.0.0.1:8080 This allows it to be access SafeSquid ONLY from the system on which it is installed. o If you would like to access SafeSquid from remote systems, you can make it listen on all the IPs on the system by changing the 'Listen Sockets' parameter during the installation to '*:8080', or you can make it listen on the specified IP only by changing the 'Listen Sockets' parameter during the installation to 'IP:8080' (e.g. - 192.168.0.1:8080), After installation, SafeSquid can be managed via it's browser-based GUI o o To access the Interface, set the proxy settings of your browser to use <SafeSquid_IP:PORT> e.g. '127.0.0.1:8080'or '192.168.0.1:8080' and access the the URL - http://safesquid.cfg If you would like to access the interface without having to change the browsers proxy settings set the <HOSTNAME> parameter during installation to the <IP> on which SafeSquid is configured to listen. You will then be able to access the interface without setting the proxy in your browser, at the URL - http://<Listen Sockets>/safesquid.cfg (e.g. http://192.168.0.1:8080/safesquid.cfg).

Points to note during installation:

You can make changes to the parameters in the registry after the installation, by using the SafeSquid Service Manager. You will have to restart SafeSquid service for the changes to take effect. SafeSquid produces some very information-rich log files. During the installation process, you shall be able to define the location of these files. Care should be taken to choose a location, that has lot of space! o The NATIVELOG records the overall process activities of the SafeSquid Service and can provide some very useful information, to improve the performance, and also to troubleshoot. The ACCESSLOG records each request, and can be analysed with a variety of third-party open source log-analysers. The EXTENDEDLOG records each request, but with some more extensive information.This log is best analysed using SAWMILL.

If you have done a standard installation, and selected the option to " Create QuickLaunch Icon", o o o o then you should be able to see a SafeSquid Service Manager in your "Quick Launch Toolbar", and / or Windows Desktop. The SafeSquid Service Manager is a simple application that merely helps you to start and stop SafeSquid manually, in case you want to. The SafeSquid Service Manager helps you to modify the Startup Parameters of the SafeSquid Service (the ones that you have set during the installation process). The SafeSquid process is actually run by executables located in the "bin\" sub-folder within your Installation Directory.

SafeSquid Service can also be controlled like any other Windows service from the Service Management Console. SafeSquid Service can alternatively be managed from the command prompt too, just like any of the other Windows Services. o o To Start SafeSquid Service At the command prompt:> net start SafeSquid To Stop SafeSquid Service At the command prompt:> net stop SafeSquid Any Internet Client like Web Browsers (Internet Explorer, FireFox, etc.), or Instant Messaging clients, should be able to use it. Most of these Internet Clients have an option to set an HTTP/1.1. Proxy. You can set SafeSquid to be used, by simply assigning the Listening IP:PORT of SafeSquid. The default installation provides a proxy service at 127.0.0.1:8080.
