August 22, 2013 Dear Professor Campbell,

Hello, my name is Marcus Huggins and I am from Fayetteville, North Carolina. I was born in Grand Forks, North Dakota but moved to Fayetteville when I was 4 and have been living there since then. I dont remember anything from when I lived in North Dakota but hope to visit my birth state sometime in the future. I am currently 19 years young and was born on December 27, 1993; two days after Christmas. Being a Christmas baby has its perks and its drawbacks. Since its so close to Christmas, my birthday always falls in Christmas break so I always have the satisfaction of knowing I wont have school or anything to do when my birthday comes around. On the other hand, my family tends to bundle my Christmas presents and Birthday presents so I typically dont get many presents. While Im on the topic of family I might as well tell you a little bit about them. My mothers name is Stephanie, my fathers name is Gerald Sr., and I have an older brother named Gerald Jr. My mother is currently an Elementary school teacher and an Instructor at Fayetteville Tech. Community College but she has also taught middle school as well. In fact, she was my teacher in sixth grade because she was the only AIG reading and writing teacher at the school. Right now youre probably thinking Oh wow, thats sweet bro! because thats what I first thought when I realized shed be teaching me but it was quite the opposite. She always called on me to participate in class, rarely helped me with my homework unless I was having a lot of trouble, and she gave me more homework than the other students. At the time I thought the reason she was being harder on me was because she was my mother, but now I realize she was harder on me in hopes that I would improve. My father is retired from the Air Force and currently works as a Military Contractor, runs his own computer repair service, and also attends Fayetteville State University. I think many of my interest in computers and technology, as well as a few hobbies, stemmed from my father. We both enjoy playing video games, repairing computers, and watching anime. My brother is currently attending Fayetteville University as well, which confuses the crap out of the university since my brother and father have the same name and address. Only difference is that he is studying graphic design and music production due to his passion for music and rap. Enough about my family, as you know, I currently attend the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in hopes of getting a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering. Ive always had a passion for technology and helping others, so I feel that by getting a degree in Electrical Engineering, I will be able to help others through my innovations in technology. I came into this school expecting to get a degree in Computer Engineering but quickly realized that I was not cut out for programming and switched to Electrical Engineering due to the fact that they are basically the same except that there is less programming. Im currently contemplating whether I should dual major with a degree in Physics as well because it only requires one more class, or a minor in mathematics because it requires only two more classes. Ive always had an interest in technology so I find most of my core engineer ing classes to be interesting. If I had to pick my least enjoyable class, it would probably be physics, which is why I

havent declared physics as my dual major yet. I find physics to be difficult due to the wide variety of aspects that must be taken into account to solve problems. If I could choose another major, itd be Psychology. Weirdly, I find that I have a great sense of how the human mind thinks and reacts to situations and various aspects around us. Ive been told to give good advice to many friends and would love to be a psychologist part-time in the future if I could. A few hobbies that I enjoy are playing basketball, ultimate frisbee, hanging out with friends, writing poetry and free-write every once in a while, watching anime, and playing video games. Back home I spend most of my free-time hanging out with my friends and playing basketball. I plan on playing Intramural Basketball this year with a couple friends from the university. I also will be working part-time during the school year at Express in Concord Mills Mall after classes as a stock/sales associate. My first job I had was at iHop, which was hands down the worst job Ive ever had. The hours were long and demanding and everyone spoke Spanish so it was often difficult to understand them. Unfortunately for me, I took three years of French in high school, not Spanish. Anyways, after quitting my job at iHop, I began working as a Sales Associate at Aeropostale for 1 year until being offered a job at Express by my manager that hired me at Aeropostale. Ive currently been working at Express for a little over a year and was recently promoted to a full-time Stock Manager over the summer. Although it was tedious, I love working as a Sales Associate due to the fact that I get to interact and help people find whatever they need. Due to having 18 credit-hours this semester, I do not have much time to do stock full-time so I will be working as a part-time associate again over the school year. I hope this letter gives you a better perspective of myself and helps you understand me better. Theres much more to know about me but Id be writing all night and Im sure you dont want to be reading my letter all day. I look forward to being a part of your class and hope to improve further in my writing ability. Thank you for reading my letter.

Sincerely,

Marcus Huggins B.S Electrical Engr. mhuggin8@uncc.edu
