ANSYS Reference Manuals

http://www.et.byu.edu/docs/ansys/ansys80booklisting.html (BYU manuals on-line) http://www.ansys.com/services/documentation/booklinks.htm (ANSYS web site requires license) ANSYS Commands Reference This manual is a complete dictionary of all ANSYS commands, arranged in alphabetical order for easy access. It is the definitive reference for correct command usage, providing complete syntax, field explanations, associated menu paths, product applicability, and usage notes. It is intended to provide information on individual ANSYS commands as needed. ANSYS Elements Reference This manual is a complete library of ANSYS element types, arranged in numerical order. It is the definitive reference for correct element type input and output, providing comprehensive descriptions for every option of every element. It is intended to provide usage information about any particular ANSYS element type as needed. Included in the manual is a pictorial summary that catalogs the characteristics of each ANSYS element, as well as tables that organize elements by number and type. ANSYS Theory Reference This manual provides the theoretical basis for calculations in the ANSYS program such as elements, solvers and results formulations, material models, and analysis methods. By understanding the underlying theory, you can make better use of ANSYS capabilities while being aware of assumptions and limitations. This volume makes it easy to refer to sections, as needed, for specific elements and procedures. An index of keywords and commands provides handy access to the topic or command of interest. While this manual is not part of the standard set of online manuals, it is available on a separate CD-ROM as part of the ANSYS 5.7 installation package. ANSYS Programmer's Guide Set This set of four reference manuals provides information about the various programming interfaces available. Topics include the APDL command scripting language, UIDL graphical user interface scripting language, available Fortran 77 functions and routines, external command capability for creating C or Fortran shared libraries, and the formats of the various binary data files ANSYS creates. Included in the set are the following manuals (which you may access from the ANSYS Web site if you have a Customer or ASD password): APDL Programmer's Guide UIDL Programmer's Guide Guide to ANSYS User Programmable Features Guide to Interfacing with ANSYS

Examples Manuals
ANSYS Tutorial Users desiring detailed, step-by-step tutorials for solving typical analyses should start with the ANSYS Tutorial. The ANSYS Tutorial serves as a "getting started" guide for all new ANSYS users. At least one tutorial from all analysis disciplines is included, with basic terminology defined in the context of the examples. While a printed version of this manual is available, we encourage users to try the online version. ANSYS Verification Manual The primary purpose of this manual is to demonstrate a wide range of ANSYS elements and capabilities in simple, straight-forward problems which have "classical" or readilyobtainable theoretical solutions. Most element types and major solution capabilities of ANSYS are included in this set of test cases. These problems may serve as the basis for additional validation and qualification of ANSYS capabilities for specific applications that may be of interest.

Analysis Guides
User guide-type publications focused on particular analysis types or features of the ANSYS program are considered Analysis Guides. They include procedural rather than reference type information. These guides include: ANSYS Operations Guide Describes basic ANSYS operations, file management, and the use of the graphical user interface. ANSYS Modeling and Meshing Guide Explains how to build a finite element model and mesh it. ANSYS Basic Analysis Procedures Guide Describes general tasks that apply to any type of analysis including applying loads, obtaining a solution, and displaying results. ANSYS Advanced Analysis Techniques Guide Discusses techniques commonly used for complex analyses including design optimization, submodeling, substructuring and cross sections. ANSYS Structural Analysis Guide Describes how to perform structural analyses including static, modal, harmonic, transient, spectrum, buckling, nonlinear, contact, p-method, and explicit dynamics. ANSYS Thermal Analysis Guide Describes how to do steady-state and transient thermal analyses.
