Performance Task Blueprint

What understandings will be assessed through this task? Alabama Course of Study section seven will assessed. Students will trace the entry of the United States into World War 2 and the major military campaigns in the European and Pacific theaters What goals will be assessed through this task? The understanding of the planning and execution of the invasion of Normandy, France. Describe the authentic performance task that will be used to assess the understandings and/or goals listed above: A local newspaper had hired you to travel to Normandy and report on the invasion. In this report you will include the obstacles that are faced when making such a large scale amphibious invasion (from sea to land) and the obstacles that were specifically faced by the allied forces. You will also report on the steps the Allies have taken to reduce casualties to a minimum and the planning and deception that took place prior to the invasion. You will also report on the outcome of the invasion and explain its importance for the allies. Tasks may include student products, student performances, or both. Describe all below :

Describe student products that will be used to provide evidence of the desired understandings and student proficiency on the stated criteria: The news article and the sources the students gathered their information from. o Describe student performances that will be used to provide evidence of the desired understandings and student proficiency on the stated criteria: o The evidence in the students understanding will be in the discussing of mock invasions and fake planes/boats that were built along different parts of England to throw off Nazi surveillance to make the Nazis think we were invading somewhere other than Normandy . Machine gun nest and antitank objects were among the obstacles faced at the beach. The invasion was critical for the allies because it caused Germany to fight a two front war with the allies on the west and Russia to the East.

Describe the criteria you will use to determine students level of understanding (these will be stated and/or implied in the standards, goals, and understandings of the unit) :
o The criteria will be based off of the students discussing of the planning of the invasion and what steps and events did the allies go thru in order to deceive the Nazis before invasion. What obstacles were faced by the allied forces when landing on the beach and how these obstacles were countered by the allies. Why this was such an important day and battle for the allied forces.
