DSU 2012/2013 FINANCIAL REQUIREMENTS Students' financial situations are assessed on the basis of their Equivalent Financial Situation

n Indicator (hereinafter referred to as ISEEU) and their Equivalent Assets Status Indicator (hereinafter referred to as ISPEU). The above certificates are issued to students or to persons appointed by the students by CAAFs (Authorised Tax Assistance Centre) and provide the data relating to the income and the value of the assets/property owned by each student's NUCLEAR FAMILY. CAUTION: The ISEEU and ISPEU certificates must refer - at risk of exclusion from the call for applications - to income received in 2011 and the value of assets and property owned as of 31 December 2011 both in Italy and abroad by the student's nuclear family. CAUTION: Regardless of scholastic merit, students whose ISEEU rating exceeds 20,124.71 Euro or whose ISPEU rating exceeds 33,960.46 Euro are not eligible for study grants. Property owned abroad at 31 December 2011 is only assessed in the case of buildings and is considered at the conventional value of 500 Euro per square meter. To obtain completion of the ISEEU Certification forms, foreign students must submit original documents to CAAFs with specific agreements with the University, regarding: - members of their nuclear family; - income produced abroad in the 2011 calendar year by each member of their nuclear families PLEASE NOTE: the document must clearly state the income referring to the 2011 calendar year. Should one or more members of the nuclear family not have received any income in 2011, the student must in any case submit a statement to this effect. - buildings owned by the nuclear family, specifying the square metres; - value of assets held by the nuclear family at 31 December 2011 (bonds, dividends, shareholdings, portions of the shareholders' equity of any companies owned, etc.). The documents needed to complete the ISEEU certification must be issued by the competent Authorities of the State in which the income was produced and must be authenticated. An Italian translation of the above documents drawn up in a foreign language must be attached and certified as an exact translation of the original foreign text by the competent diplomatic or consular representation or by an official translator.

HOW TO APPLY FOR ISEEU and ISPEU CERTIFICATION Italian and foreign students must contact AUTHORISED TAX ASSISTANCE CENTRES (hereinafter also referred to as CAAF"s) for the completion of the ISEEU forms. The CAAFs with specific agreements with the Politecnico guarantee: - assistance free of charge; - on-line submission of the data relating to the students ISEEU to the Financial Aid and International Mobility Service. CAUTION: Foreign (EU and non-EU) students MUST apply to CAAFs with specific agreements with the University for assistance.

The Financial Aid and International Mobility service CANNOT ACCEPT OR ASSESS ANY DOCUMENTS REQUIRED TO COMPLETE THE ISEEU FORM. These must therefore be delivered personally by the student or by a representative of the student - only to the CAAFs stated above.

MERIT REQUIREMENTS The term MERIT REQUIREMENT refers to the number of credits (hereinafter also referred to as CFUs) that the student has to attain in order to be assigned/retain the benefits requested. CAUTION: The number of credits required is calculated with reference to the year of first MATRICULATION, i.e. with reference to the first year in which the student enrolled at any university, whether in Italy or abroad. Confirmation of financial aid, and in particular payment of the second installment of the study grant, is subject to obtaining, no later than 10 August 2013, at least 35 credits for those enrolled for School of Engineering. Years subsequent to the first: 35 CFU for the 2nd year 90 CFU for the last semester

HOW TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION 1. complete the specific on-line form available from the following website: www.polimi.it/borse -> modulo online; 2. send the ISEEU certificate to the Financial Aid and International Mobility Service in all cases in which students have applied to CAAFs without specific agreements with the Politecnico, as well as any other document which may be requested in this call for applications. WARNING: Foreign students enrolling at the Politecnico for the first time must send a COPY OF THE DECLARATION OF VALUE, certifying the validity and value of the qualifications attained abroad to the Financial Aid and International Mobility Service. The student must send the documentation specified in this point to the Financial Aid and International Mobility Service in one of the following ways: - by fax to +39 02.2399.4468; - by surface mail to Politecnico di Milano, Area Servizi agli Studenti e ai Dottorandi - Servizio Diritto allo Studio e Mobilit Internazionale - Via Golgi, 42 - 20133 Milan, Italy; - by e-mail to dirittoallostudio@polimi.it; - handing it in personally at the Financial Aid and International Mobility help desks based at no. 42 Via Golgi, open to the public from Monday to Friday, 9.30 a.m. - 12.30 p.m. WARNING: all the University offices will be closed from 13 to 17 August 2012. Students must notify the Financial Aid and International Mobility Service of any changes that are important for the purposes of award of financial aid that occur after submission of the application (examples include but are not limited to: obtaining another study grant or other financial aid, transfer to another university, finding employment, inability to continue studies, withdrawal of enrolment, change to students civil or financial status, etc.). NON-ADMISSION TO THE CALL FOR APPLICATIONS Additionally, the following students may not participate in the call for applications for the 2012/2013 academic year: - those who are BENEFICIARIES OF OTHER FORMS OF FINANCIAL AID supplied or which will be supplied by the Politecnico or by other public or private bodies or those who are ASSIGNED FREE PLACES IN COLLEGES, RESIDENCES OR HOSTELS NOT RUN BY THE POLITECNICO DI MILANO. Should the benefits or assignments be partial, benefits will be assigned proportionally.

CAP 1 STUDY GRANTS NUMBER OF STUDY GRANTS A total of 1700 grants are available for this call for applications, to be divided up between the successful applicants as follows, from which: - Students enrolled for the first year of MSc programmes: 290 TERMS FOR THE SUBMISSION OF THE APPLICATION - 3 September 2012, for students enrolling for the first years of all programmes, including students enrolling for the first year of MSc programmes as from the second semester and including students enrolling for the first year of PhD and specialisation programmes. AWARD OF STUDY GRANTS Students may apply for study grants: for a period of 5 semesters as from the year of first matriculation for students enrolled for MSc programmes; VALUE OF STUDY GRANTS The value of the study grant is differentiated according to both income bracket, and the students geographic origin. Income Bracket. The income brackets will be determined by the Lombardia Region. As soon as they are available, they will be published in a special supplement to this call for applications on the www.polimi.it/borse website. Income brackets 1st Bracket from 0.00 to 13,820.34 Euro 2nd Bracket from 13,820.35 to 16,972.54 Euro 3rd Bracket from 16,972.55 to 20,124.71 Euro

Students geographic origin. In order to prove his/her status as away from home, the student must present the Financial Aid and International Mobility Service with either: - a copy of the duly registered rental agreement made out in the students name or in the name of one of his/her parents; - a certificate or other tax-valid document in relation to payment of rent in the case of students living in colleges, student residences or hostels not run by the Politecnico di Milano. The above documentation must be presented no later than: - 15 October 2012 by students enrolled for BSc programmes, single-cycle BSc + MSc programmes and MSc programmes CAUTION: Failure to present this documentation will result in the students being considered as a commuting student. For the purpose of determining the value of the study grant, foreign students will, in any case, be considered as away from home, regardless of their place of residence in Italy. This is with the exception of cases where the students nuclear family resides in Italy.

The amount of the study grants, inclusive of reimbursement of regional taxes on financial aid and study grants, is allocated as follows. Local students 1st Bracket 1,954 Euro + one free meal a day for a total of 2,637 Euro 2nd Bracket 1,503 Euro + one free meal a day for a total of 2,186 Euro 3rd Bracket 1,188 Euro + one free meal a day for a total of 1,871 Euro Commuting students 1st Bracket 2,128 Euro + one free meal a day for a total of 2,811 Euro 2nd Bracket 1,681 Euro + one free meal a day for a total of 2,364 Euro 3rd Bracket 1,366 Euro + one free meal a day for a total of 2,049 Euro Students away from home housed in accommodation belonging to the Politecnico di Milano 1st Bracket 2,018 Euro + accommodation + one free meal a day for a total of 5,012 Euro 2nd Bracket 1,471 Euro + accommodation + one free meal a day for a total of 4,465 Euro 3rd Bracket 2,018 Euro + accommodation + one free meal a day for a total of 5,012 Euro Students away from home, using alternative public or private residential structures 1st Bracket 4,329 Euro + one free meal a day for a total of 5,012 Euro 2nd Bracket 3,782 Euro + one free meal a day for a total of 4,465 Euro 3rd Bracket 3,257 Euro + one free meal a day for a total of 3,940 Euro PROCEDURES FOR PREPARING THE RANKINGS A) Students enrolled for the first year of all study programmes Students applying for study grants are assigned points in relation to their financial situation, calculated according to the formula below: [1- (student ISEEU/20,124.71)] x 1,000 Where points are equal, marks related to qualifications shall prevail and, subsequently, precedence shall be given to the younger student. B) Students enrolled for years subsequent to the first of all study programmes Students enrolled for years subsequent to the first are assigned points in relation to academic merit. 1,000 points can be assigned as follows: - 600 based on the number of credits earned by 10 August 2012, to be calculated according to the formula below: (Student credits Minimum credits) X [600/(Max. credits Min. credits)] - 400 based on the average marks achieved in exams by 10 August 2012, to be calculated according to the formula below: (Average student marks -18) X [400/(30 -18)]

PUBLICATION OF RANKINGS AND APPEALS Provisional rankings will be published at www.polimi.it/borse by 8 October 2012. Appeals must be submitted to the Financial Aid and International Mobility Service no later than 10 days after the date on which the rankings are published. Once the examination of appeals has been completed by the competent administration, the final rankings will be published by 31 October 2012. Appeals against the final honours list must be presented to the competent organisations according to the terms and conditions envisaged by current legislation. PAYMENT TERMS The study grant will be paid in two instalments as follows: - the first instalment will be paid by 23 November 2012; - the second instalment will be paid as follows: a. by 30 April 2013 for students who during the first examination session (February-March 2013) attain the number of credits required by this call for applications for payment of the second instalment; b. by 31 October 2013 for students who attain the number of credits required for payment of the second instalment by 10 August 2013.

CAP 2 - INTERNATIONAL MOBILITY CONTRIBUTIONS The contribution is 550 Euro per month for the duration of the stay abroad, up to a maximum of 10 months.

CAP 3 DEGREE AWARDS GENERAL CONDITIONS FOR PARTICIPATION The degree award is a 1000 Euro supplement in addition to the last study grant. The application must be presented within 60 days of graduation.

CAP 4 - BENEFICIAL-RATE ACCOMMODATION SERVICE TERMS FOR SUBMISSION OF THE APPLICATION 3 September 2012, for students enrolling for the first years of all degree programmes NUMBER OF PLACES IN BENEFICIAL-RATE ACCOMMODATION The Politecnico di Milano offers 600 places in beneficial-rate accommodation. For students enrolled for the FIRST YEAR of MSc programmes and PhD/specialisation programmes: 100 AWARD OF THE BENEFIT Students may request beneficial-rate accommodation: for a period of 6 semesters as from the year of first matriculation for students enrolled for MSc programmes; Students wishing to use benefits for subsequent academic years must re-submit their applications in accordance with the terms set out by the relevant calls for applications. PUBLICATION OF RANKINGS AND APPEALS For STUDENTS ENROLLED FOR THE FIRST YEAR OF MSc PROGRAMMES and PhD AND SPECIALISATION PROGRAMMES, the final rankings will be published by 24 September 2012. Successful students enrolled for the first year of all study programmes have the right to use the accommodation assigned to them from the start of the programmes (as specified in the Academic Calendar) upon verification of effective enrolment and until 31 July 2013. A student will be considered to have RELINQUISHED the assignment if he/she fails to formally accept the accommodation within 3 days of being notified of its assignment. In this case, the accommodation will automatically be assigned to the next student in the ranking. Successful applicants will be assigned a bed in a twin-bedded room. Depending on availability of places, students enrolled for MSc programmes and for PhD and specialisation programmes may be assigned places in single rooms. COST OF ACCOMMODATION Students awarded study grants Students awarded study grants will have a deduction from the grant as a lump sum equivalent to the cost of the accommodation from the date on which it is assigned (pursuant to the previous paragraph) until 31 July 2013. Where students are awarded study grants, a deduction of 2,311 Euro will be made from the grant as a lump sum equivalent to the cost of the accommodation from the date on which it is assigned up to 31 July 2013. Eligible students not awarded study grants Any students who successfully apply for accommodation at beneficial rates but who are not awarded a study grant must pay a monthly rent equivalent to 1/11 of the amount deducted from study grants awarded to students. Students awarded study grants and eligible for, but not assigned accommodation at beneficial-rates

Students who are awarded study grants and are eligible for, but not assigned accommodation at beneficial rates must pay the full rate of monthly rent. OBLIGATIONS OF STUDENTS ADMITTED TO COLLEGES Students assigned a place in accommodation must: - pay the Politecnico di Milano the sum of 400 Euro as a deposit; - sign, in acceptance, the regulations concerning the Politecnico di Milano residences.

CAP 5 - BENEFICIAL-RATE CATERING SERVICE ELIGIBLE STUDENTS All students AWARDED STUDY GRANTS and all ELIGIBLE STUDENTS NOT AWARDED study grants for the 2012/2013 academic year have the right to use the catering service in accordance with the terms specified by Art. 3 below. SERVICE DURATION For all students enrolled for the first years of BSc, single-cycle BSc + MSc, and MSc programmes, as well as all students enrolled for PhD programmes, the catering service will be available from 16 November 2012 to 15 November 2013. VALUE OF LUNCHEON VOUCHERS AND METHOD FOR USE Luncheon vouchers must be used during the day. If not used, they cannot be used to increase the value of those used over following days. VALUES: A) Students AWARDED study grants B) ELIGIBLE students NOT AWARDED study grants, enrolled for YEARS SUBSEQUENT TO THE FIRST of study programmes Students away from home Have the right to one meal a day from Monday to Sunday. The daily value of the luncheon voucher is 5.00 Euro. Local and commuting students Have the right to one meal a day from Monday to Friday. The daily value of the luncheon voucher is 4.50 Euro. A deduction of 683 Euro will be made from the grants of students awarded study grants for the 2012/2013 Academic Year. C) ELIGIBLE students NOT AWARDED study grants, enrolled for the FIRST YEARS of study programmes Students away from home Have the right to one meal a day from Monday to Sunday. The daily value of the luncheon voucher is 3.00 Euro. Local and commuting students Have the right to one meal a day from Monday to Friday.47 The daily value of the luncheon voucher is 3.00 Euro.
