A Closer look at the Great Commission

RADICAL OBEDIENT DISCIPLESHIPLEADING TO MATURITY:
I am so encouraged that more and more church leaders, presidents of bible schools and seminaries, and ministry organizations are openly recognizing that in the past decades the church at large did not have the Great Commission making disciples as her number one priority. Not only that, but in recent years more and more church leaders and ministry organizations are calling the entire membership back to discipleship and to the disciple-making vision and strategy. It is simple and straight-forward. Dallas Willard writes, When Jesus walked among humankind there was a certain simplicity to being his disciple. Primarily, it meant to go with him, in an attitude of study, obedience, and imitation. There were no correspondence courses. One knew what to do and what it would cost. ( Discipleship: For SuperChristians Only? (Christianity Today, October 10, 1980). Making disciples was never intended for programs and church marketing. Genuine discipleship is the result of spiritual mentors (mature disciples) investing their lives into the lives of others. George Barna writes, Discipleship is not a program. It is not a ministry. It is a life-long commitment to a lifestyle. (Growing True Disciples: New Strategies for Producing Genuine Followers of Christ, p. 19.) I like the way Barna underlines the problem of the contemporary church.

sions necessary for URFM in 2013. For NEW students/disciples to enroll into the ADT in 2013. For deep awakening regarding the Great Commission. Amen! Acts 1:8
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.

I am so happy to share with the entire reading audience the conclusions of The Third Lausanne Congress on World Evangelization, which took place in Cape Town, on 16-25 October 2010. This important event of the Christendom brought together 4,200 evangelical leaders from 198 countries, and extended to hundreds of thousands more, participating in meetings around the world, and online. What was the goal of this Congress? The goal was to bring a fresh challenge to the global Church (to the Great Commission) to bear witness to Jesus Christ and all his teaching in every nation, in every sphere of society, and in the realm of ideas. In my opinion, the conclusions of The Third Lausanne Congress on World Evangelization are absolutely monumental! Here they are: God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself. God's Spirit was in Cape Town, calling the Church of Christ to be ambassadors of God's reconciling love for the world. God kept the promise of his Word as his people met together in Christ's name, for the Lord Jesus Christ himself dwelt among us, and walked among us (2 Corinthians 10:4-5). We sought to listen to the voice of the Lord Jesus Christ. And in His mercy, through His Holy Spirit Christ spoke to His listening people. Through the many voices of Bible exposition, plenary addresses, and group discussion, two repeated themes were heard: (i) The need for radical obedient discipleship, leading to maturity, to

grow in depth as well as in numbers ; (ii) The need for radical cross-centered reconciliation, leading to unity, to grow in love as well as in faith and hope . Wait! There is more. Are you ready for this? Discipleship and reconciliation are indispensable to our mission. We lament the scandal of our shallowness and lack of discipleship, and the scandal of our disunity and lack of love. For both seriously damage our witness to the gospel. (http://www.lausanne.org/en/documents/ctcommitment.html, The Cape Town Commitment. Accessed on May 1, 2013.) GRAND CONCLUSION: My grand conclusion is this: It is all about Jesus and Jesus is all about discipleship . The Great Commission challenges us all once again to think beyond just evangelism and just missions; think radical discipleship and spiritual transformation; think spiritual growth and maturity; think multiplication and spiritual reproduction. As David Platt writes, This is a call worth dying for. This is a call worth living for. DONATE ONLINE (Follow Me: A Call to Die, A Call to Live, p. 226.) Lets pray that Christians all over the world would get out of their comfort zones, and be discipled (thus becoming equipped for the task) to make disciples. I am fascinated by Pauls boldness and faithfulness to transfer his godly legacy to his son in faith - Timothy before his martyrdom, The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also (2 Timothy 2:2). Should we do less than that? You be the judge.
