Academic Computing Committee Meeting Notes

Friday 27th September, 2013 3:00 p.m. Conference Room C

Present: Mr. Barrymore Warren, Director, Information Technology, Committee Chair Dr. Neville Fernandez, Assoc. Professor of Microbiology Dr. Nandini Rao, Assoc. Professor of Biochemistry & Genetics Dr. Mysore Nagaraj, Assoc. Professor of Clinical Medicine Dr. Jobila Williams-Sy, Assistant Professor-EED Dr. Deborah Dalmeida, Tutor- Department of Pathology Dr. Samuel Jones, Assistant Professor- Physics Dr. Pemminati Sudhakar, Assistant Professor- Pharmacology Mr. Jeremias Samuel, Lead Clinical Simulation Technologist Mr. Linsen Samuel, SGA President The meeting was opened by Mr. Warren with a review of the minutes from the last meeting held August 30th, 2013 A. Clickers 1. Dr. Fernandez reported that Classroom 5 has an issue with clickers. Dr. Bharatti and Dr. Pai were unable to use unable to take attendance due to this defect. Mr. Warren will inform Mr. Griffith of any updates that need to be installed. 2. Lecture Capture- Authentication has been turned off to enable students to have access to recorded lectures without entering their network password. Mr. Warren informed the committee that there will be an upgrade to the server to minimize the amount of time the lectures are posted on blackboard.

B. SGA IT Concerns 1. Wi-Fi Coverage- Mr. Samuel noted that there were no strong Wi-Fi connections by the Gazebo, in front of the shacks and sometimes in front of the flex room. 2. Applications- Magic jack has not been working for a lot of students once they are on the campus. Mr. Warren then informed Mr. Samuel of the additional ports that will be required for magic jack to work. 3. SGA Website- a website was created so to that any AUA member can access. To access the website the network username and password is required. Dr. Fernandez recommends that the username and password set to the student/staff/faculty active directory single sign on. C. Exam Soft Dr. Fernandez has been having some problems where grades are going well but the total score is out of 100. An update in scores has to be changed in an excel document that has been created to assist with the scheduling of time to the amount of questions allotted. Dr. Mysore found some problems in generating the exam. Dr. Fernandez will assist him in resolving posting question through exam soft.

D. Skills Lab Updates Mr. Samuel informed the committee on the Stat Man and Simulation Noel. Upgrade for stat man will be done for history taking on October 10th and October 17th and 18th the installation/Training of birthing simulator Noel. E. Osler Suites Dr. Mysore requested a laptop for teaching aid be installed. Mr. Warren noted that Dr. LeBaron have requested two laptops be placed in two assigned room for testing purposes. The installation will be completed by November 2nd, 2013 and tested with Dr. LeBaron.

F. Any other Business 1. Turning point Protocol- Dr. Fernandez has published the file of how to upload the turning point on July 31st, 2013. 2. Dr. Williams-Sy reminded Mr. Warren about WiFi access in the EED Department to facilitate students requests. 3. Mr. Barrymore Warren requests each Department IT personnel to provide him with a list of academic software to be placed on the faculty desktops and classrooms as teaching aids. 4. Dr. Sudhakar asked Mr. Warren to evaluate the lecturer capture recordings in classroom 5, because of low audio. 5. Dr. Williams Sy asked Mr. Warren to update TAs access to the classroom laptops. TAs have been having problems uploading power point presentations when teaching.
