Toastmasters Meeting on 28th June Visit from Division K Governor Summer is probably the most exciting time of the

e year. The word itself bringing up hazy strokes of picturesque beaches with soft sand, sleeping in till late in the afternoon and ice cream in the boiling weather while summer is a good time for relaxation, it is also ideal for brushing up ones skills, and thats why, with all this free time in summer, our club decided to host Toastmasters meetings on a more frequent basis, so that we meet e ery !riday e ening instead of once a fortnight. "s our club was chartered in #ay, #att Steele, the newly$elected %i ision & 'o ernor of Toastmasters (nternational, isited our meeting on )*th +une as an obser er. To spice things up a bit, we adopted a courtroom theme for our meeting, where we assigned roles differently to fit our theme for the night. "lison, our Toastmaster of the , ening -T#,., took up the role of a court bailiff, the audience became the /ury to ote for the best speakers, e aluators and table topic speakers, the e aluation team consisted of /udges, the general e aluator was the 0hief +udge and the %i ision & 'o ernor filled in the 0hief +uror position. The ultimate defendant of the trial was our club, as the 'o ernor had sat in to obser e how our meeting would be conducted. (n line with the courtroom theme of our meeting, the warm$up question posed to e eryone was which rule in criminal law they would most like to break, without considering the consequences. #ost mentioned offences such as /aywalking, speed dri ing and computer$related crimes. The prepared speeches for the night were highly entertaining and well thought$out as usual. #aggie, a Social Sciences student, told us in her icebreaker speech her thoughts on 1!i e Things to do in 2ni ersity3 and what shes gained from her uni ersity experience so far. 4aibha shared with us his hiking experiences and %onald spoke about his interesting childhood of growing up with the bad kids while remaining 1pure3 and 1untainted3. !or the table topics session, there was a fierce debate on whether it is reasonable for a man to claim damages against the go ernment for being traumatized from seeing a lady in the mens bathrooms, which was quite hilarious to watch. "t the end of the meeting, the 0hief +uror ga e the erdict in our clubs fa our -special mention5 6igh %istinction.. This would not ha e been possible without our T#,, "lison, who was surprisingly humorous and talkati e for a court bailiff. 7e all had a good time /ust like were entitled to 8 its summer time, after all.
