Introduction to BAR Training Services


BAR Training Services (BARTS) set the standards in industry specic training to BAR Members and the removals industry as a whole. BARTS training courses and workshops are available on site at your premises, delivered by BARTS Field Trainer. BARTS Trainers also provide training in your area or welcome you to obtain qualications and acquire skills at BAR Head Ofce in Watford. To save you the travel and accommodation costs that would be incurred when sending personnel away from the workplace, all of BARTS training courses are available on your premises at your convenience. Each course can be fully tailored to suit your individual company requirements. BARTS services include career development, management training and a full range of progressive skills based training. BARTS commitment to improving the skills of the industry includes the production of a nationally recognised apprenticeship scheme developed specically for the removal industry. BARTS employ a fully qualied and experienced team of trainers to deliver all of their programmes. Statutory Training Courses:


Driver CPC / Statutory Training
The Driver CPC rules affect everyone who drives vehicles over 3.5 Tonnes vocationally. Between September 2009 and September 2014 all Drivers are required to attend 35 hours of Periodic Training in order to gain their Driver CPC Qualication Card. After September 2014 those without a Driver CPC Qualication Card will be unable to drive LGVs vocationally.

The following Driver CPC training modules are available through BARTS: Prevention of Physical Risks: This module enables the trainee to identify physical risks to health and the potential to cause harm. They can then identify the risk and the actions to minimise the risk to health. Module Content: The principle of ergonomics, the potential harm that can be caused by some movements, post posture and effects of physical tness, manual handling, handling equipment and accidents at work. Emergency Situations: This module enables the trainee to identify how emergency situations can develop, what to do if they happen and what they can do prevent the situation developing further. Module Content: Breakdowns, emergencies on the motorway, accidents, incidents involving dangerous goods, aggressive behaviour, emergency aid and how to report an incident. Safe & Fuel Efcient Driving: This course demonstrates the impact of safe and efcient driving, including the impact on the vehicle, the individual, the company and the environment. Module Content: Safe and efcient driving, braking, forward planning, gear selection, hazards, load positioning, skip gears or block changes, speeding, tyres and weather conditions. Company Image & Customer Care: Understand the impact and importance of good customer service and care including how your role impacts the companys images. Module Content: Understanding customer care, listening skills, using questions, using customer care to increase sales, dealing with customer complaints. Packing: It is essential that during a removal all fragile items are packed properly using the correct materials, not only to ensure the economic use of all packing materials. Module Content: Customers expectations, required standards, weight of carton, setting up a workstation, premises protection, sequence of packing, correct selection and use of materials. Manual Handling: This course covers the health & safety at work regulations, types of injury, and the correct methods that should be used when lifting and moving items. Module Content: Importance of correct manual handling, kinetics of the spine, types of injury, safe lifting procedures, single lifts, team lifts, lifting aids, safe use of equipment. Vehicle Loading: A correctly loaded vehicle ensures that items are well protected and remain undamaged. This course teaches correct methods of loading and the various considerations such as weight limits/ distribution within the vehicle. Module Content: Correct loading procedures, vehicle positioning, vehicle capacity, weight distribution, part loads, load evaluation, loading sequence, loading over the top, load protection, securing the load, unloading. Risk Assessment: Risk assessments are important to protect your workers and business as well as complying with the law. This course demonstrates how to identify hazards and reduce risk in the workplace. Module Content: Identifying hazards, evaluating risks, recording risk assessments, reducing risks, managing risks.

Fire Safety / Statutory Training
Description: All workers have a right to work in places where risks to their health and safety are properly controlled. Under the Fire Safety Law all employers must implement and maintain a re remanagement plan all staff must be suitably trained in re prevention and the course of action in the event of a re. Course Content: Fire risks, current legislation, the chemistry of re, identifying causes of re, re prevention, re ghting equipment, evacuation procedures. Fire Warden / Statutory Training

Description: Fire safety training for employees is a legal requirement under re legislation. BAR Training Services run courses for Fire Wardens and Marshals on re prevention, re safety and for managers who are responsible for determining re safety procedures. Course Content: Current legislation, roles of the Fire Warden/Marshal, responsibilities, roll call procedures, building checks, re alarm drills, re safety information pack. Health & Safety Awareness / Statutory Training


Description: All workers have a right to work in places where risks to their health and safety are properly controlled. The Health & Safety Executive is responsible for enforcing the Health & Safety at Work etc Act 1974 which states that all staff are suitably trained in the prevention of physical risk both to themselves and to others. This course demonstrates the methods of identifying and reducing risks in the workplace. Course Content: Current legislation, responsibilities, identifying & reporting risks, re safety, basic rst aid, manual handling. Health & Safety Package / Statutory Training
Description: Managing health and safety is little different from managing any other aspect of your business. You need to do a risk assessment to nd out about the risks in your workplace, put sensible policies in place to control them and make sure they stay controlled. BAR Training Services can do all this for you! Course Content: The package contains: Risk assessment CD complete with blank templates. A full health & safety assessment of your business. Induction / Statutory Training


Description: It is a criteria of BAR membership that members must be able to demonstrate that all staff employed, hired or engaged are suitably trained and qualied. An induction programme including a full health and safety procedure must be in place for all staff, and written records must be kept of the training undergone by each employee, including health and safety related training. This course gives students a brief history of the industry and covers all the necessary legislation associated with induction training. Course Content: A background of the industry, a background of the company, current legislation, customer relations, health & safety, re safety, manual handling, furniture handling skills. Manual Handling / Statutory Training


Description: Health and Safety at Work Regulations require employers to provide their employees with health and safety information and training. This should include as necessary information and training on manual handling injury risks and prevention. On this course students will learn the types of injury that are caused through poor manual handling and the correct methods that should be used when lifting and moving items. Course Content: Importance of correct manual handling, kinetics of the spine, types of injury, safe lifting procedures, single lifts, team lifts, lifting aids, safe use of equipment. Description: A risk assessment is an important step in protecting your workers and your business, as well as complying with the law. Description: Commercial packing focuses on the methods of handling commercial items and the packing materials that are used during a commercial or ofce move. Students will learn the correct sequence of packing and how to identify and use the correct packing materials. Description: The BARTS Train the Trainer programme provides personnel with the opportunity to become a qualied in house BAR Trainer. Once qualied, attendees are able to train other members of staff within their organisation and issue BAR Training Certicates. Description: The BTEC Award in Practical Estimating is a nationally recognised qualication designed to improve the knowledge and skills of Estimators. The two day course includes three site visits to local properties where students will carry out mock surveys. BTEC Advanced Award in Removals Management / Management Training

Description: The BTEC Advanced Award in Removals Management is a nationally recognised qualication designed to improve the knowledge and skills of lower to middle management. Commercial Estimating / Management Training


Description: Designed to expand knowledge of Commercial Removals, this course focuses on calculating volume, methods for Estimating in the Commercial environment, what to look out for and questions to ask the customer. This course includes a practical exercise. Course Content: Why volume is important, how to calculate volume (including guidelines/hints/tips to calculating volume), estimating the amount of packing crates needed, questions to be asked on site viewings, methods of a site viewing, Risk Assessment, information to include in a commercial quotation.
