The Internship Program team wishes you good luck in your finals and reminds you to use your winter break as an opportunity, not only to spend time with friends and family, but also to start applying for summer internships.

As the winter begins, you should prepare yourself to go into full job-hunting mode. Wait until finals are over, but know that summer internship applications open as early as 1. Network - Networking has been statistically proven to be one of the most effective job search strategies. Let everyone know that you are looking for an internship! 2. Meet Pamela Martinez, industrial engineering major. Last summer Pamela had the opportunity to particiAfter this summer experience I feel more pate in the Summer Research Opportunity Program at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Pamela shares with us what her experience consisted of and how it will benefit her future career. My main project was to work on a computer-based tool that could deal with large amounts of patient records and provide the ideal framework to incorporate existing monitoring algorithms. As part of this research project, I collaborated with the investigation of other potential application of these concepts into other eye diseases such as macular degeneration. The best part of my internship was that I got to experience how graduate school is like. I learned many new topics related to my major, I proved myself that I was capable of successfully performing a challenging project, and finally, I got to improve my verbal and research skills.

He also believes that hearing perspectives from different teachers on key topics broadened his knowledge and gave him a more balanced view of musical performance. When asked: what would be your advice to other students to land an internship? Matthew responded: You may find that no matter how confident you are in your field, having an internship can be a great learning tool and, as I mentioned, it can confirm your good habits and reveal your bad ones. This, in addition to the fact that you may get to test drive a future career, can be priceless. There are many different types of internships and most likely, one exists that can fit into your schedule. Get one!
