-DPreface We are pleased that students of different African countries who study Medicine and Health Sciences at our University (International University of Africa) are coming forward with very bright ideas and initiatives directed towards solving the problems of their communities. Having an association under the name (African Medical Students Association) AMSA-IUA is an excellent idea, where students can work as a group, put their heads together, join hands and efforts in helping their people and communities that are seriously affected by disease, poverty and ignorance. The scientific conference they are holding on 10th -11th Jan 2013 is really a great student achievement because its main objectives are directed towards alleviation of the sufferings of their people and communities. This is the type of students and graduates who can make the real change in the future. I am very glad that our students have such advanced endeavors and thinking, and I congratulate them for the success of their wonderful conference. We look forward to see more of these activities.

-EAcknowledgement With the completion of all the activities of the first international conference organized by the African Medical Students Association at the International University of Africa (AMSA-IUA), 10th - 11th of January, 2013, it is gratifying to note that most priority medical and health problems of the African countries have been identified and recommendations for solving them were proposed. It is the first international conference organized by students in the 20 years of the history of the International University of Africa, in which students have positively contributed to the professional accountability towards their people and communities. We wish to warmly thank the Vice Chancellor of the University and his dedicated staff in the various faculties and departments for the continuous help we got, without which the conference would not have been a reality. Dr. Omer El-Adil, Dr. Mohammed Elimam from the faculty of medicine, Dr. Amal Abdou of the Sudan Doctors union, are cordially thanked for the role they have played in the scientific committee. We are very grateful to Dr. Rabi El haji and the members of World Assembly of Muslim Youths (WAMY) for the excellent logistic support for the conference. Our special thanks go to the staff and board members of Physicians Across Continents (PACs) for their support and role they have been playing in the provision of medical, health services and support to the less privileged communities across the African continent. We also extend our words of thanks and appreciation to Dr. El-Sheikh Badr, the Secretary General of the Sudan Doctors Union (SDU) for his continuous support and encouragement. Our special thanks go to Mr. Tarig Faroug and the administration of CEPAP (Center for Promotion of Professional and Academic Performance) for the hard work in typesetting and editing of the manuscripts of the scientific researches.

-FWe would like also to appreciate the contributions from ABROAD; the Ministries of Health, individuals and other Health Agencies from different African countries for the role played in the primary Information about the health status of their countries. Our sincere thanks go to all our guests from abroad and inland who have come to contribute to the success of this conference. Lastly, the Deans of the Faculties of Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing and Lab. Technology of the International University of Africa are to be thanked for all the support they have given to the AMSA IUA. And we wish to congratulate all the executives and members of the AMSA-IUA for their first class organization and execution of this wonderful activity.

-GThe Role of the International University of Africa in Capacity building

The International University of Africa has a quite long history of enrolment and graduating of professionals in its different faculties and departments. The university represents a major platform where people from many countries and continents of the world meet to share knowledge and ideas, and to acquire the professional skills needed to make a positive change in the rapidly growing and developing contemporary world of today. The University has since its establishment trained and graduated individuals that have been of key importance in their positive contributions in the society. A good initiative in the name of the African Medical Students Association represents the Medical and Allied Health Sciences specialties of the university who have gained the awareness of the various health problems and disease burden of the African continent, and have embarked towards sensitizing the international community of what the situation is and the role they can play in an attempt to intervene in the areas of healthcare delivery. This also represents the role of the University as it boost the human resources adding to the health workforce of the different countries of the continent.
