What is AIESEC?

AIESEC is a non-profiting student-run organisation aiming to help young people to explore and develop their leadership potential through offering global internship and volunteering opportunities to university students worldwide. Our mission is for the Peace and Fulfilment of Humankinds Potential.

Founded in 1948 after WWII with 89 participants on the programme, AIESEC has now grown to 85,000 participants in over 100 countries and working with over 4000 businesses and NGOs. Unlike most other volunteering organisations, AIESEC is run entirely by students. The local AIESEC branches here at UCL-SOAS and at the hosting country will be responsible for taking care of you before and after your exchange expect to meet and connect with lots of likeminded students worldwide and embark on friendships that would last for a lifetime.

General Questions and Answer

Can I apply for more than one programme at the same time? We highly recommend those who wish to apply for GoTeach to apply for GoVolunteer at the same time, as the number of positions available for GoTeach is limited and we also offer similar teaching projects in our GoVolunteer programme. However, for those applying for Global Internship programmes, although it is possible to change your application to our Volunteering Programme afterwards if you change your mind, the criteria set at interview stage would have been set at a standard equal to other applicants for the Professional Internship Programme and higher to other applicants of the Volunteering Internship Programme

Does AIESEC pay for my flights? No. We do recommend you to purchase your tickets early to cut down the costs of an exchange.

Will AIESEC apply for Visas on my behalf? No. AIESEC will not be responsible for applying Visas on your behalf, although if required, we will be able to issue you an Invitation Letter needed to obtain your Visa. Again, we highly recommend you to apply for your visa s soon as possible as cancellations of internship due to delay of Visa is not covered by our refunding policy.

Will my accommodation be guaranteed? For participants of our Volunteering Programmes, accommodation will be guaranteed. However, for applicants of our Professional Internship Programmes, accommodation will not be provided, although the hosting AIESEC branch will assist you in finding a property and settling in.

What sort of accommodation will be provided? You will either be hosted by a local family or share an apartment with other volunteers.

Will meals be provided? For most Volunteering Programmes, meals will be provided for working days. However, this is not guaranteed, as each project will have its own policy.

What is the Refund Policy? There are 3 ways an exchange participant will be granted a partial refund on the 350 application fee. 1) Personal injuries that makes it impossible to exchange until the end of your 18 months activity 2) By accepting you onto our programme after interview, we take the responsibility that based on your existing skills and abilities, you will be able to find an opportunity via our portal. If you can offer proof to show that you have actively searched and applied for internships during the 18 months of activity but was rejected by all that you have applied for, a partial refund will be possible. 3) If you have returned from an exchange early as the project manager did not ask you to do what was described in the job description, a partial refund will be possible
