None Dr Nick Thom Mr Goh Boon Hoe To provide understanding of pavement materials and associated mixture designs; enable structural design of pavements to be carried out; enable decision making on pavement maintenance based on understanding of evaluation technologies and management strategies. On successfully completing the module, students will be able to: demonstrate an appreciation of the properties of pavement materials; design pavements of different generic types; demonstrate an understanding of appropriate techniques, processes and management strategies for pavement evaluation, maintenance and strengthening This will contribute to the following programme learning outcomes (see Programme Specification for details): Knowledge and understanding of: A2, A4 Intellectual skills to: B2, B4 Professional/Practical skills to: C4 Transferable/Key Skills to: D4. Summary of Content

This module will provide students with a basic understanding of the properties of granular, bituminous and cement bound materials and their application to the structural design, evaluation and maintenance of road pavements. Practical laboratory sessions will demonstrate testing facilities for pavement materials and research being carried out in the department in the field of pavement engineering.
