2. PURPOSE OF ROLE

The Director, Trade and Industry Development leads the Trade and Industry Development team providing strategic direction as well as day to day operational management, in regard to the planning, development, implementation, evaluation and reporting on a range of trade and industry development programs and activities to facilitate growth of tourism to NSW. The role has responsibility for a number of areas including trade events and famils programs, industry and product development and advice, industry training, development of trade collateral and information resources, as well as relationship management and sponsorship arrangements with key industry associations and stakeholders such as the NSW Tourism Industry Council, LGNSW, ATEC and the CCIA. As a Director, the role is a key contact for other government agencies such as NSW Trade and Investment and provides a tourism perspective on potential tourism investment opportunities.

RESPONSIBILITY and seminars for tourism operators on the needs and trends of overseas markets in particular relating to the International markets. Maintain regular interaction with Destination NSW senior management and other business units to ensure industry issues are addressed. Represent Destination NSW at industry and public forums, during international delegation visits, on working parties and committees and undertake presentations as required. Establish and maintain effective working relationships and networks between industry stakeholders such as community groups, local Government officers, local tourism associations and RTOs to enable an effective flow of information and expertise. Analyse market research, prepare detailed reports and communicate industry intelligence to tourism operators and key stakeholders. Monitor all project plans and budgets, seek in-kind and co-operative funding opportunities and ensuring the cost effective use of resources for all trade events, famils, training and missions to market. Manage the preparation of high quality bids for the purpose of securing major trade events and activities. Develop and oversee the management and implementation of a year round program of industry training programs aimed at building the professional capacity of NSW tourism businesses. Develop and oversee the management and implementation of a year round program of famils aimed at educating the domestic and international travel trade on NSW products and experiences, and increasing the number of NSW products and experiences included in wholesale and inbound programs. Develop and oversee the management and implementation of a year round program of industry training programs for inbound tour operators, retail and wholesale agents, aimed at educating the domestic and international travel trade on NSW products and experiences, and increasing the number of NSW products and experiences included in wholesale and inbound programs. Manage the Destination NSW International Business Development Fund support program for international trade events and activities. Monitor and undertake a rigorous assessment of these activities to

RESPONSIBILITY identify and address any issues. Manage all trade events activity, including Destination NSWs participation in events such as the Australian Tourism Exchange, ATEC Meeting Place and other major trade events. Provide guidance to industry on Destination NSW available services and programs. Manage the development and provision of consulting services to existing and potential business and other stakeholders in the tourism industry to assist them to develop their destinations and products. Undertake research and source information and intelligence and consult with other business units and external stakeholders to ensure the Destination NSW meets strategic and operational objectives. Provide advice and strategic support to the Regional Managers located in the overseas offices of Destination NSW in relation to trade servicing. Provide input from a tourism perspective on potential tourism investment opportunities, in conjunction with NSW Trade and Investment.

RESPONSIBILITY Coach, mentor, and develop direct reporting colleagues enabling them to achieve business objectives in an environment with a strong internal and external customer focus. Provide effective, consistent and regular performance feedback and address performance issues in a timely manner to maximise individual and team outcomes. Ensure direct reporting colleagues have access to approved training and development opportunities to build their skills and capability. Lead direct reporting colleagues through the performance management and development process that provides an overall context and framework to encourage employee contribution and includes goal setting, feedback, and performance development planning. Work with the General Manager, Industry Partnerships and Government Policy to monitor and review performance to ensure achievement of departmental goals and job satisfaction.
Role Specific KPIs All Half-Year and Yearly Performance review must be discussed with the staff (direct reporting colleagues), including training needs, areas for development, potential career opportunities and motivation, and completed by June, 30th. All Learning & Development (L&D) initiatives must be provided to Corporate Services and approved for delivery through the L&D plan by June, 30th. Must create and discuss all KPIs for new financial year with the General Manager, Industry Partnerships and Government Policy for the Half-Year review by Dec. 1st & Yearly Performance review by April, 1st. Past financial year personal Yearly Performance review must be discussed with the General Manager, Industry Partnerships and Government Policy and approved by June, 30th. All personal Learning & Development needs must be identified, discussed and approved by the General Manager, Industry Partnerships and Government Policy by June, 30th. All Performance issues addressed in a timely fashion and documented as required.

RESPONSIBILITY Provide leadership and manage the operations and activities of the Trade and Industry Development unit including responsibility for reporting, financial, human resources and audit requirements. Lead the production of Trade and Industry Development unit annual business plans and proactively contribute to corporate strategic planning processes. Manage the Trade and Industry Development unit budgets and forecasts. Provide specialist advice and complex briefs and papers to the General Manager, Chief Executive, Director General and Minister as required. Monitor and evaluate business processes, systems and procedures to identify best practice. Develop and implement new business processes and systems for increased efficiency and improved service delivery. Establish and maintain relevant controls and feedback systems to monitor the operation of the business unit and ensuring all reporting requirements are accurate and delivered on-time. Ensure tasks undertaken adhere to all policies and procedures, including Occupation Health & Safety operational plan requirements. As a NSW Government agency representative, adhere and comply with all Destination NSW policies and procedures. Ensure all physical and electronic business records are stored and maintained in recordkeeping system as mandated by NSW Government.
Role Specific KPIs All internal and external reports must be accurate and delivered to deadline. All issues regarding the Division/ Branch/ business units internal & external processes and daily duties must be raised and resolved promptly in timely fashion and document as required. Must adherence to budget. No greater than up to 5% variance. Must be nil audit or compliance issues. Must adhere to all Destination NSW Policies and Procedures. Appropriate storage of all files and documentation must be maintained. All leave records must be recorded and processed with 05 (five) working days of receipt.

RESPONSIBILITY Provide operational direction and leadership to establish and maintain a culture of teamwork, achievement, accountability and outcome focus. Foster a collaborative team spirit focused on service delivery to both internal and external clients. Proactively keep up to date with issues that may impact the Visitor Economy and actively participate as team member across Destination NSW, contributing to and undertaking special projects and activities, as required. Promote teamwork and achievement of common purpose by encouraging all Destination NSW colleagues to share information and ideas. Undertake other duties as directed by the General Manager, Industry Partnerships and Government Policy.

6. CHALLENGES
Balancing all aspects and priorities associated with the running of an event and ensuring that expenditure and resources are within budget whilst ensuring a high quality of event presentation. Managing the preparation of high quality bids for the purpose of securing major trade events which involves the preparation of cost/benefit analysis, identifying significant issues, factoring these issues into the bid and ensuring a high standard of documentation and presentation. Remaining aware of politically sensitive and industry issues which may impact on Destination NSW and providing timely briefings, correspondence and advice to General Manager Industry Relationships and Government Policy and CEO Destination NSW. Working with very tight decision making deadlines imposed by the Ministers Office, Government agencies, Destination NSW, industry stakeholders and clients. Obtaining the co-operation of stakeholders and partners for outcomes, including ensuring the provision of advice and delivery of products. Managing multiple projects in a constantly changing environment and working within very tight decision making deadlines by Government, Department and industry stakeholders. Being strongly customer-focused and able to prioritise and manage multiple tasks/demands set by senior management including matters with critical turnaround times.
Identifying gaps in Destination NSW platforms and collaborates with all internal partners to deliver appropriate solutions. Identifies product, partners or events which will deliver a destination marketing message to drive overnight visitation. Provides management on operational aspects of work and is responsible for monitoring work outputs and leads the development of relationships with industry stakeholders and clients.
IN CONSULTATION DECISION MAKING Formulates future direction and strategies for trade event, famil and industry development programs. Prepares recommendations based on analysis of previous programs and market research and intelligence and discusses content with General Manager Industry Partnerships & Government Policy. Prepares recommendations on the development of any strategies that may have implications and/or affect relations with other Government agencies, stakeholders and tourism industry. Undertakes research and makes decisions, in consultation with the other business units, relating to client needs, and progress of projects and provision of advice.
8. QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
QUALIFICATIONS Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field. EXPERIENCE Thorough knowledge of and experience at a senior level in the tourism industry, including the international and domestic marketplaces and extensive experience in tourism trade marketing, promotion, development and planning is essential. Proven experience in establishing and maintaining strategic partnerships and networks with the tourism industry and government and a sound understanding of the government work environment Previous experience and extensive knowledge and understanding of the requirements for conducting trade event and international tourism missions. An excellent understanding of small business challenges and opportunities in the tourism context. Good knowledge of government procurement policies, procedures, guidelines and legislative requirements. Proven track record in managing high quality major trade event and exhibitions and famil programs. Significant experience in formulating strategic and annual business plans, monitoring and reporting. Proven experience in all aspects of business operations including financial, administrative and a contemporary understanding of human resource management. Proven track record in delivering high quality trade and industry development and training programs achieving excellent levels of stakeholder satisfaction.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES Sound leadership skills and the demonstrated capacity to lead and motivate a team of skilled tourism specialists

Exceptional communication skills, particularly in the delivery of compelling presentations. Excellent interpersonal, liaison and negotiation skills and demonstrated high level relationship management skills are essential. Sound team management skills, including coaching and mentoring Strong project management and implementation skills to effectively co-ordinate multiple projects concurrently and the capacity to deliver outcomes on time and within budget. Superior Microsoft office suite skills, including Powerpoint.
