Headmasters Corner
Well done to all the children who dressed up for Children in Need last Friday and our thanks go to Mr and Mrs Bloomfield for contacting their old friend Pudsey who took time out of his incredibly busy schedule to pop into school during the morning. Work started on the Lower School Outside Learning Environment this week. Thankfully, our qualified team of up and coming Quantity Surveyors was on hand to give Mr Wilmer some help. We will be having an Open Morning on 6th December. Please do let your friends know so that they can visit the school in action. A copy of The Tockingtonian 2013 has been sent home with all children. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Beveridge for all her hard work on producing yet another wonderful magazine. Thank you and well done to both Year 1 and Year 2 for their lovely assemblies. Last week Year 1 taught us about how important friendship is and I know our visitor, Prof Steve Webb MP, thoroughly enjoyed himself. Today Year 2 talked to us about Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Well done! Whilst discussing Lower School children, I would like to thank them all for the way that they have welcomed visitors into the school recently. Their bright, confident hellos with their huge smiles have been an absolute pleasure to see.

Bollywood Dance
On Thursday 28th November during assembly Year 4 will be performing a Bollywood dance which they have been learning in Dance Drama and would like to invite their parents to come and watch.

Car Park Safety

In the interest of safety, we would like to remind all parents that they should, whenever possible, use the back car park and not the one outside the Lower School and Nursery. This is intended for minibus use and disabled parking only. We had an incident this week when someone reversed from a space outside the Nursery and narrowly missed a parent and her two children. On these dark mornings and evenings car parks can be dangerous places. We would also ask parents not to stop to drop pupils off just at the top of the entrance road (where people may turn to the right to the Nursery or left towards the house).

FOTM Bake Sale

The Friends are holding a Bake Sale on Friday 29th November from 2.30-4.30 pm in the school dining room. There will be cakes, drinks, lucky dip, face painting, cupcake decorating, teddy bear raffle and more! If you would like to donate a cake please talk to Sarah Preston, Camilla Allen, Melody Bloomfield or Corinne Saelens. Cakes should be nut free and tins/boxes should be clearly labeled with the owners name.

Synagogue Visit
On Tuesday 19th November Years 7 and 8 visited Park Row Orthodox Synagogue in Bristol. Rabbi David welcomed us and showed us round the Synagogue and explained many of the symbols. The story of Abraham and sacrifice was put into perspective as the children were told about Abraham being the first Jew. Henry was dressed in a traditional shawl (tallit) for the purpose of focus in prayer. The experience will develop the understanding of Faith and tolerance and be useful in CE exams. The tradition of separating women from men was explained beautifully as we women are an unwelcome distraction and men struggle with focus! The ladies in the group all nodded sagely. As we expect at TMS, good manners and politeness were in evidence. Mrs Hinchliffe

Bristol Museum Trip

Year 4 had a fantastic morning at Bristol Museum on Wednesday. They were able to handle artefacts, some of which were over 3000 years old, solve puzzles and spend time in the Ancient Egypt gallery, looking at the real objects that they have read about in books. Their knowledge of Ancient Egypt and their deductive skills really impressed the Museum staff and their behaviour was impeccable. Mrs Gooch

Monday Running Club

Weve had a fantastic response to our second year of the Monday evening club. We have had between 30-40 athletes attending each week. However, since the changing of the clocks, we have struggled to run such a varied programme of events. If possible, please could your child bring in a simple head torch (named). We can then use the great runs around TMS. As long as we have enough torches there should be enough light to run in. This should be great fun! Mr Jones
