As we all know, stories have always played a significant role in children's growth.

Stories not only help in stimulating children's imagination and understanding of the world, but also in developing children's language ability and appreciating literature. In storytelling, the crafts of storytelling play an important role. For LGA 3103 Stories for Young Learners, we were asked to do storytelling in the classroom by choosing any story that is suitable for 5 to 7 minutes for Year 1, 2 or 3 pupils. We were also asked to use any props or aids in the storytelling session. This storytelling session will be observed by friends and instructor and they will give feedback on the performance. In storytelling, finding stories is one of the important things that every storyteller must do. I chose a story entitled The Greedy Red Ant. Before choosing the suitable story, I read many kinds of tales that will interest me personally. There are fairy tales, humorous tales and so on where the list is endless. Out of all the stories that I have read, I personally felt that The Greedy Red Ant will be suitable for students of Year 3. For the storytelling, I spent plenty of time by practicing telling the story. I paid attention on the voice projection and also intonation. Intonation and voice projection is one of the parts that every storyteller must pay attention too. Voice projection is the strength of speaking or singing whereby the voice is used loudly and clearly. It is a technique which can be employed to demand respect and attention, such as when a teacher is talking to the class, or simply to be heard clearly, as an actor in a theatre meanwhile intonation is the sound pattern of phrases and sentences produced by pitch variation in the voice. During the storytelling, I used the stick puppet of the characters of the story to make it more interesting. At first, I was quite nervous but in the end, I managed to do the best. The time allocated for story telling was five to seven minutes and I finished storytelling within 4 minutes. It was one of the negative points as I finished it earlier and telling the story faster can cause the students to feel boring since they wont understand much. Based on my instructor, I had some problem in the pronunciation of /h/ sound. Some of the word which contains /h/ sounds was unable to hear clearly when I mentioned it. For an example, the word grasshopper. Meanwhile, my friends said it can be seen clearly that I was nervous at the beginning and was managed to overcome it in the end. Otherwise, my storytelling was done in a good way.

Personally, I felt that I have done my best for this and I really hope I could improve more and more so that I can be an excellent storyteller for my students. It is very important to keep the story interesting as students will really enjoy and they will be motivated to learn. In a nutshell, I have learnt many things from this course work. It has taught me many lessons which can really guide me in my future career. I hope I can make use of the experience that I had in the future.
