Introduction
Introduction
The SQL Direct Installation Guide explains how to install SQL Direct software on a workstation running the Microsoft Windows XP operating system. Note: To run SQL Direct a license file is required for each workstation. Local Administrator rights are required to perform the installation. For more information on SQL Direct software, refer to the SQL Direct User Guide. To operate, AVEVA software must be able to access the correct Flexman license file, which must be installed on either the server, user's workstation or networked workstation. For more information on how to install and configure the Flexman software, refer to the Flexman Installation and Configuration Guide.

Assumptions
The Installation Guide assumes that the user has: a workstation running Microsoft Windows XP or later and is familiar with it. a file-system configured as NTFS. either the AVEVA Plant or AVEVA Marine group of products installed and correctly configured a correctly installed Browser application such as Internet Explorer, Firefox or Opera.

Installation
Installation
Before installing SQL Direct, refer to the Minimum Systems Requirements Manual and make sure that the system and network meets all of the minimum requirements. The latest release of AVEVA SQL Direct software is supplied on a DVD, which contains a suite of AVEVA applications, the user will only be able to use the applications that are licensed. An on-screen notification is displayed on license renewal. Previous versions of AVEVA SQL Direct must be removed prior to installation of the latest release. If the software has not been previously installed, refer to Install Latest Version. Note: Throughout this guide, the windows and options displayed might be slightly different because of the software installed and the display options chosen.

Remove Previous Version

The user must first remove any previous versions of AVEVA SQL Direct by clicking Start > Control Panel to display the Control Panel window: From the Control Panel window, select Add or Remove Programs. The Add or Remove Programs window is displayed, populated with all the programs currently installed on the workstation:

In the Currently installed programs list, click to highlight the AVEVA SQL Direct software. Click Remove. A confirmation message window is displayed.
Click No to close the confirmation message window and return to the Add or Remove Programs window or Yes to remove the previous version of the AVEVA SQL Direct software. The SQL Direct window is displayed showing the progress and status of the removal.

Installation
Once the operating system has removed the AVEVA SQL Direct software, the user is returned to the Add or Remove Programs windows. Close the Add or Remove Programs window. Note: The installation call also be removed from the Change, repair or remove installation window. Refer to Change the Installation.

Install Latest Version

To install the latest version of SQL Direct, insert the AVEVA DVD into the workstations drive to display the Welcome window.
If the Welcome window is not displayed, the user must navigate to the AVEVA DVD in the drive, right click the AVEVA DVD and from the dropdown menu, click Open to display the files on the AVEVA DVD. Click start.htm to display the Welcome window. To view the release notes the user requires Adobe Acrobat Reader installed, which can be downloaded from the Welcome window by clicking First download and install a free Adobe Acrobat Reader. To continue with the installation, select Click for contents to display the Product Index window:

The user is required to read the Medium Release Letter. Click READ ME FIRST to view the letter. To install the latest AVEVA SQL Direct software release, click AVEVA SQLDirect 12.x.SPx to display the Release Documents window:

Displays the release notes in PDF format. Note: Adobe Acrobat Reader or another PDF reader must be installed.

Downloads the latest product release update using the Internet. Displays the manuals index for SQL Direct software. Removes or installs the SQL Direct software. Displays the contents of the SQL Direct software on the AVEVA DVD. Returns to the Product index window. Displays a list of the DVD icons together with a description of what each icon is used for.
Click INSTALL to display the File Download - Security Warning window.

Click Save to save the software to an identified location, Cancel to stop the installation and return to the Release Documents window or Run to install the software from the AVEVA DVD. Dependent upon on the version of Microsoft Windows installed, an additional Internet Explorer - Security Warning window may be displayed.
Click Dont Run to stop the installation and return to the Release Documents window or Run to continue with the installation and display the SQL Direct Setup Wizard window.

Click Advanced to customise the installation, for more information, refer to Advanced Installation, Cancel to stop the installation and return to the Release Documents window or Install to begin the install process and display the Installing SQL Direct window.

Installation
The operating system begins installing the SQL Direct software, the Installing SQL Direct window displays a taskbar which indicates the progress of the installation. Once the installation is complete, the Completed the SQL Direct 12.x.SPx Setup Wizard window is displayed.

The latest release of the SQL Direct software is now installed, click Finish to close the Completed the SQL Direct 12.x.SPx Setup Wizard window.

Advanced Installation
The user can perform an advanced installation of the SQL Direct software, which allows the user to select the way the features are to be installed. To perform an advanced installation, from the SQL Direct Setup Wizard window, click Advanced to display the Custom Setup window.

Installation
The Custom Setup window displays the feature to be installed, configurable features are displayed on the left hand side of the window, in a control called the SelectionTree. Each feature is depicted as a box with a description of the feature displayed in the right hand side of the window. Clicking SQL Direct displays a dropdown menu.

The feature will be installed locally. The feature and all its sub-features will be installed locally. The feature will be installed locally when required.

Installation
The user can change the default install path. If left unchanged the SQL Direct software will be installed in the default location shown. To change the install path, click Browse to display the Change destination folder window. Clicking Cancel at any time will discard any changes made and return to the Custom Setup window. To change the install path, navigate to the required folder and click OK to return to the Custom Setup window which displays the new destination path. Click Reset to revert the install path back to its original location prior to any change been made. To check if enough disk space is available, click Disk Usage to display the Disk Space Requirement screen. Highlighted volumes indicate that there is not enough disk space available for the selected features. The user can remove some of the files from the highlighted volumes, install fewer features or select a different destination volume. Click OK to return to the Custom Setup window. Select Back to step back a stage, Cancel to terminate the Setup Wizard or Next to display the Ready to install SQL Direct screen and continue the installation.
Click Back to step back a stage, Cancel to terminate the Setup Wizard or Install to display the Installing SQL Direct window.

Cancel
The user can cancel the installation of the latest release of the SQL Direct software at any stage. Partially installed files are removed and the installation process is stopped. To cancel the installation, click Cancel from any of the windows, a Confirmation window is displayed.

Click No to continue with installation or Yes to cancel the installation, the SQL Direct Setup Wizard Interrupted window is displayed:
Click Finish to exit the Setup Wizard and halt the installation.

Change the Installation

The user can change the way features of the SQLDirect software are installed. To change the way features are installed, insert the AVEVA DVD into the workstation drive and from the Release Documents window, click INSTALL. The File Download - Security Warning and Internet Explorer - Security Warning may be displayed. Click Next on the SQL Direct Setup Wizard window to display the Change, repair or remove installation window:

Click Change, to change the features of the software installation. For more information, refer to Advanced Installation. The user can repair errors in the most recent installation by fixing missing and corrupt files, shortcuts and registry entries. Click Repair to display the Ready to repair SQL Direct window.

Click Back to step back a stage, and return to the Change, repair or remove installation window, Cancel to quit the SQL Direct Setup Wizard window, a confirmation window is displayed. For more information, refer to Cancel. Click Repair, to repair the installation of the SQL Direct, the Repairing SQL window is displayed. The operating system begins to repair the SQL Direct software, the Repairing SQL Direct window displays a taskbar which indicates the progress of the repair. Once the installation is repaired, the Completed the SQL Direct 12.x.SPx Setup Wizard window is displayed:

Click Finish to exit the Setup Wizard. Clicking Remove on the Change, repair, or remove installation window allows the user to remove the SQL Direct software. The Ready to remove SQL Direct window is displayed.
