I Am Muslim Book Recommendation

This is a recommendation for the newly published childrens book: I Am Muslim written by Umm Khuzaimah which can be found here: http://www.wowinspirations.org/?product=series-part-2

(Note: I have not read the other books listed and thus cannot comment on them)

I find this to be an excellent book for the following reasons: 1.It is based on The Three Principles 2.It does not have haraam pictures 3.It has Arabic with the vowel markings (and English) but no transliteration 4.It has beautiful illustrations 5.My husband and children liked it 6.It has a good price (and is on sale now for $5)

I ask that Allah grants Umm Khuzaimah success in writing more beneficial books for the Ummah. Umm Muhammad Zawjatu Abdul Malik

Book Recommendation: A Lighthouse of Knowledge from a Guardian of the Sunnah

Bismillah This is a Review and Recommendation for: A Lighthouse of Knowledge from a Guardian of the Sunnah Shaikh Rabee ibn Haadee Umair al-Madkhalee Books 1 & 2 (two books in one) This book is amazing. After reading this book, I would buy anything published by Taalib al Ilm Educational Resources. This book contains highlight worthy passages on nearly every page. It not only contains information about and advice by the illustrious scholar (now in his 80s) Rabee ibn Haadee al Madkhalee, but also many indispensable, thought-provoking, tear-inducing quotes from other illustrious scholars (e.g. Ibn Taymiyyah, Ibnul Qayyim, Saalih Fawzaan, Muqbil al Wadiee, and many more) advising about how to follow and adhere to the straight path, and how to rectify oneself and society.

One cannot benefit from Allaahs blessings of faith and knowledge, except for that individual who understands his true state, who holds himself to the limits of his capacity, and does not enter into areas that he is not suitable for nor exceeds his proper limitations. Nor does he say, This blessing is from my own efforts or merit; rather he has certainty that it is only by Allaah, from Allaah, and through Allaah that he possesses them. Allaah blessed him with them initially, and maintains them within him, without there having to be a specific reason for this which originates from him as a worshiper, and without him definitively deserving it. Furthermore, the blessings of Allaah upon him cause him to be humble, and he reflects the state of lowliness of the one who understands that these blessings are not from himself, nor does he have any good that is only from himself. He knows that the goodness that has reached him is only by Allaah, from Allaah, and through Allaah. Such that the occasion of Allaahs blessings being given to him only cause him to be humble and bring forth a tremendous sense of humility that cannot be expressed in words (Ibnul Qayyim, p.9)

This book contains quotes from Shaikh Rabee (and other scholars) which have never before been translated (which in and of itself makes this book valuable). In one chapter, Shaikh Rabee explains the principle that making a mistake does not diminish any scholars status, as we all, being human, make mistakes. Then he explains that we do not accept the mistake of any scholar no matter how high his status (and no scholar upon the truth wants people to follow him in a mistake). Then Shaikh Rabee listed some of the scholars who had refuted in some issues the Imaam of the people of the Sunnah in this age (what Shaikh Rabee said, p.262) the illustrious guiding scholar, Imaam al-Albaanee. He listed the names of the scholars as well as their books in which they refuted what they viewed as a mistake from Imaam al-Albaanee. He likewise mentioned that those scholars who refuted Imaam al-Albaanee in what they viewed to be a mistake on his part they were the same ones who loved and defended him. Such as the saying of Shaikh Hamood Tuwayjiree,Speaking against al-Albaanee facilitates speaking against the Sunnah (p.39).

Shaikh Rabee himself said about Imaam al-Albaanee,From his contemporaries there is no one who has achieved what has been achieved by Shaikh al-Albaanee. Rather, I hold that in his knowledge and examination of books he does not have any competitor neither Ibn Taymeeyah, nor Ibn Hajar in this characteristic of being very familiar with the many books of knowledge. Al-Haafidh Ibn Hajar has certainly memorized more than him; however in his study and research, and his producing significant efforts in knowledge-related research, I have not seen anyone like him. (p.172)

This book is an essential part of any home library. It is long and should be gone through slowly, with a highlighter, so the reader can digest and contemplate thoroughly the advice of the scholars, as well as easily reference in the future those highlighted passages which affect them.

This book contains numerous praises from the scholars, both past and living, for Shaikh Rabee, it contains a glimpse at his interactions with some of the major scholars (like the Grand Mufti and Saalih Fawzaan ), Shaikh Rabees advice on how to call people to the truth (along with some personal anecdotes). It contains Shaikh Rabees explanation of the difference between the path of the Salaf and the path of Mahmood al Hadaad (from whom spring the extremist Hadaadis), his explanation of a person being excused due to ignorance, beneficial quotes from the introduction of Saheeh Muslim (what has been translated into English by Abdul Haamid Siddiqi contains Siddiqis introduction, not Imam Muslims highly beneficial introduction), and much more. This book contains some of Shaikh Rabees chain of narrators in Quran and hadeeth works something never before translated into English (to my knowledge).

This book contains numerous beneficial advices and exhortations to be gentle to one another and enjoin the ties of brotherhood, like in the following quote:

But what is acting with mercy? It means your Salafee brother, if he makes a mistake, then work with him with kindness and with wisdom! I have said more than once, if an individual from among us falls, then we should act like a doctor, taking this individual with religious deficiency to the hospital, and treating him with kindness and mercy. There are some people who only possess harshness and severity in their manner, and with great sorrow we see that if someone falls or slips into an error they simply finish him off, completing his ruin and destruction. So stay far away from such ways of destroying harshness, [as] well as from the path of negligence and laxity in adherence to the truth. Simply spread mercy between yourselves, and give advice with wisdom and good manner of preaching. I ask Allaah to rectify this splitting and division, and these occurrences of alienation and estrangement among us, as indeed its cure is to be found in us striving to be distinguished by

excellent character which is free from all aspects of being extreme (Shaikh Rabee, p.279)

In short, I do not know of any book about the esteemed scholar Rabee ibn Haadee al Madkhalee in the English language, let alone one this comprehensive! You do not know Shaikh Rabee until you have read this book.

Book Recommendation: Exemplary Principles Concerning the Names and Attributes of Allaah

This book by one of the most knowledgeable scholars of our era Shaikh Muhammad bin Saalih al Uthaymeen - clears up many misconceptions and explains wonderfully the correct way to understand many oft-misunderstood verses of the Quran and ahaadeeth. Here are some passages from the chapter about clarifying misconceptions:

The Ninth and Tenth Examples Regarding Allahs Eyes

It

(Noohs ship) sailed forth in Our Eyes.1

And

so that you (Moosa2) would be raised upon Our Eye.3

[ Their claim: The apparent meaning of these Verses is that Nooh's ship sailed inside of Allaah's Eye, and that Moosa (Moses) was raised on top of Allaah's Eye! Obviously, this is not intended, so they must have been explained based on other than their apparent meanings.]4 The response: Both of these Verses are to be understood based on their literal and apparent meanings, but what exactly are the literal and apparent meanings of these words? Can it be said that the literal and apparent meaning is that Noohs ship sailed inside of Allaahs Eye? Or that Moosaa (Moses) was raised on top of the Eye of Allaah, The Exalted? Or can it be said that the ship was sailing while Allaahs Eye watched over it and protected it? Likewise, can it be said that the upbringing of Moosaa (Moses) was by way of the Eye of Allaah, as He watched over Him and protected him? Verily, the first idea is falsehood from two angles.

Firstly, it cannot be understood from the phrases used, based on the Arabic language, while theQuraan was revealed in the language of the Arabs. Allah, The Exalted, has said:

Verily,

We have sent it down, an Arabic Quran, so that you might use your intellect.5

And Allah, The Exalted, also says:

Trustworthy Spirit (Jibreel) came down with it (the revelation) upon your heart, so that you would become from the warners, in a clear Arabic tongue.6 Regarding someones statement, ( ) Soand-So traverse upon my eye, no one understands from it that So-and-So is actually traversing inside of his eye. Also, as for someones statement, ( ) So7 and-So graduated upon my eye, then no one understands from it that So-and-So graduated while riding on top of his eye! If someone claimed that these were the intended meanings of these phrases, even the foolish people would laugh at him, not to mention the intelligent people. Secondly, the first meaning mentioned is totally impossible, and no one who knows Allaah and respects Him with the respect He is due would understand something like this about Him. That is because Allaah, The Exalted, is established above His Throne, separate from His Creation. Nothing He created is found within Him, nor is He found within His Creation. Allaah is Exalted far above such a thing. When the futility of this becomes known from both a linguistic and contextual standpoint, then it is obvious that the specific meaning and apparent understanding is the second understanding that the ship sailed while the Eye of Allaah watched over it and protected it. Similarly, the upbringing of

The

Moosaa (Moses) was done upon the Eye of Allaah, as He watched over him and protected him. This is the meaning of what some of the Salaf said, explaining the meaning of the Verses as, By My Overseeing, since Allaah, the Exalted, protected him with His Eye, which necessitates that He oversaw him. This direct conclusion of the meaning is correct, and it is to be considered part of the meaning, as is known by ones application of the evidences by way of mutaabaqah, tadammum, and iltizaam.8 pp. 161-3

The Second Example


The

Hearts of the Servants are Between Two of Ar-Rahmans Fingers

[Their claim: 'The apparent meaning of this hadeeth is that Allaah is touching His creation or mixed in with them to some degree so it must be explained based on other than its apparent meaning.']9 The response: This hadeeth is authentic. Imaam Muslim collected it in the second chapter of his Book of Qadr, on the authority of Abdullaah Ibn Amr Ibnil-Aas, who heard the Prophet (may Allaah raise his rank and grant him peace) saying: (( )) Verily, the hearts of all of the descendants of Aadam are between two of ar-Rahmaans Fingers, as if they are one heart, He turns them about as He likes. Then the Messenger of Allah ( may Allaah raise his rank and grant him peace ) supplicated: (( ! )) ,

O Allaah, Turner of Hearts! Turn our hearts to Your obedience.!10 So the Salaf, Ahlus Sunnah, understood the hadeeth based on its apparent meaning and said, Verily, Allaah, the Exalted, has real Fingers that we affirm just as His Messenger (may Allaah raise his rank and grant him peace) affirmed them. The presence of the hearts of the descendants of Aadam between Allaahs Fingers does not necessitate that Allaah is physically touching them. So it can not be said that the apparent meaning of this hadeeth implies that Allaah is within or part of His Creation. There is no need to explain the hadeeth by other than its apparent meaning. Look to the clouds that are suspended between the heavens and the earth, they do not touch the sky, nor do they touch the earth. And it can be said that the full moon is between Makkah and al-Madeenah, while it is quite distant from both cities. So the hearts of the descendants of Aadam are truly between two of ar-Rahmaans Fingers. This does not necessitate that Allaah is physically touching His Creation, nor does it necessitate that He is inside of it. pp.127-8
