SUBsEA 7 Subsea 7 is a seabed-to-surface engineering, construction and services contractor to the offshore energy industry worldwide. It provides integrated services, planning, designing and delivering complex projects in harsh and challenging environments.

LocAtioNs Subsea 7 has onshore and offshore operations in Europe, Africa, the Mediterranean, Asia Pacic, Brazil, North America and the North Sea.

ActiVitiEs Subsea 7 enables clients to access a high-end, well diversied eet, comprising over 40 vessels supported by extensive fabrication and onshore facilities able to deliver the full spectrum of seabed-to-surface engineering, construction and services. In addition, clients have immediate access to a high level of project management, engineering, technical expertise and high-value technologies.

cHAllENgE Getronics challenge was to provide a full end to end infrastructure management and support service for both onshore locations and offshore vessels.

Following the merger of Subsea 7 with Acergy in January 2011, the new Subsea 7 is one of the worlds leading seabed-to-surface engineering, construction and project management companies. Subsea 7 has onshore and offshore operations in Europe, Africa, the Mediterranean, Asia Pacic, Brazil, North America and the North Sea. Subsea 7 enables clients to access a high-end, well diversied eet, comprising of more than 40 vessels, supported by extensive fabrication and onshore facilities, able to deliver the full spectrum of subsea engineering, construction and services.

The Challenge & Objectives


Getronics relationship with Subsea 7 began in January 2006. Subsea 7 chose Getronics because it required a global services company with the technical competence and global reach to provide a full end to end infrastructure management and support service for both onshore locations and offshore vessels.

Service Desk (delivered from Glasgow and Brazil), server and network (LAN) management/support and, on site desktop support at main global campus sites. In addition, Getronics provides remote support for Subsea 7s vessels, which is an extremely demanding IT support challenge. cHAllENgE Getronics challenge was to provide a full end to end infrastructure management and support service for both onshore locations and offshore vessels.

Every vessel has a clustered server environment with up to 60 PCs on board and is in effect a oating ofce. This demanding environment requires Getronics to continuously remotely manage and monitor the vessel systems, wherever they are located across the globe. In addition, Getronics, deploys a dedicated vessel IT team responsible for ensuring proactive preventative maintenance across all IT systems, to ensure they are prepared for optimum performance prior to sailing. The service is underpinned by best practice ITIL service management processes in the areas of Problem, Change, Conguration, Capacity and Availability Management. Prior to the merger with Acergy, Getronics technology projects included a full design and deployment of an IPT solution across legacy Subsea 7s Aberdeen campus headquarters. Getronics also provided a team of engineers to carry out a technology refresh of the legacy Subsea 7 global vessel eet. Getronics Projects Managers and Consultants were then a central part of the technology element of the business merger with Acergy, ensuring that on day one, IT delivery to the new Subsea 7 business was seamless. More recently, Getronics has designed, built and deployed a global Microsoft Exchange 2010 system that standardises the messaging environment of the combined Subsea 7 business. Subsea 7s initial 5 year contract was signed with Getronics in October 2005 and a further 5 year contract renewal signed in April 2010.

Another new contract was signed in December 2011 that further extended the scope across the legacy Acergy business. As part of the new contract, Getronics is deploying state of the art service desk self-service and diagnostic tools and best practice process within their Global Service Delivery Model (GSDM). This is a standard framework of service support processes and tools deployed in each region, ensuring global consistency of service levels. Getronics GSDM and proven global ability were critical factors in Subsea 7s decision to extend the scope of its contract, as was Getronics proven ability to be responsive, innovative and exible in meeting the business needs of Subsea 7. Another key factor in the decision was the condence that Subsea 7s IT management team had in the existing service provided by Getronics to the legacy Subsea 7 side of the business. This was effectively viewed as a reference case study for the reliability and performance that could be expected of the proposed service to replace the legacy Acergy in-house IT model.

HAVINg WORKED WITH GETRONICS FOR THE PAST 5 YEARS WE HAVE BEEN DELIgHTED BY THEIR WILLINgNESS TO UNDERSTAND THE NEEDS OF SUBSEA 7S BUSINESS INCLUDINg BOTH gLOBAL ON-SHORE LOCATIONS AND VESSEL FLEET. SUBSEA 7 HAS RECENTLY TAKEN THE DECISION TO EXTEND THE CONTRACT WITH GETRONICS FOR A FURTHER 3 YEARS AND EXPAND THIS SERVICE MODEL ACROSS THE LEgACY ACERgY PART OF THE BUSINESS. THE KEY FACTORS IN THAT DECISION IS THEIR PROVEN ABILITY TO PROVIDE SUBSEA 7 WITH A SCALABLE AND ROBUST IT DELIVERY MODEL AND AT THE SAME TIME LEVERAgE THEIR EXPERTISE IN TECHNOLOgY TRANSFORMATION. The Future
Future potential projects include a merge of the Active Directories of the new Subsea 7 organisation, together with the design and deployment of a new Windows 7 Common Operating Environment.
