Computer Proficiency Test (CPT) by Staff Selection Commission (SSC)

If you are one of those successful candidates who has been shortlisted for SSCs Computer Proficiency Test (CPT) or Data Entry Skill Test (DEST) (phase before the interview) then this article can help you. On CPT/DEST day, SSC will verify your documents before the test. If you pass the document verification, youll given an entry pass number for CPT/DEST. Youll have to sit according to your pass number in computer lab. CPT/DEST test in Computer Proficiency is a qualifying test only. It will consist of three Modules in the following manner: (I) [CPT/DEST] Word Proce ssin g Te st: (2000 Key Depressions) Its basically a typing test and SSC uses a custom software (build in Java, see the pdf below to get more details) in which no control, shift keys shortcuts work. You can only enter keys, space or backspace. A timer starts running on top right menu as soon as you hit the start test button and enter the text. Typing automatically stops after 15 minutes and you cant do anything anymore. First to check your Keyboard and computer (whether they are working properly or not), A trial test of 5 minutes is conducted just before the actual test. Youll be given a printed A4 size paper and youll have to login with your roll number as username and password to begin the trial and after 5 minutes, itll automatically stop the typing and ask you to start the actual test. Meanwhile, you can ask your invigilators to replace any faulty hardware. Examiners are not going to check your typed text or computer screen, theyll ask you to take print out of the paper and sign on it along with your roll number and name. That printed paper will be your Typing Test answer sheet and theyll decide the result based on that printed paper. conducted in MS Excel 2007. In similar manner, a problem on printed page will be provided to you and youll have to draw the table in MS Excel 2007 in 15 minutes (See an example below).

Dont forget to broder around the table, the most common mistake youll see after taking the printout. If you are familiar with basic functions of MS Excel, you can pass this as well.

(III) [CPT] Te st in Powe r Poin t (Microsoft Powe r Poin t): (15 Minutes) A printed paper will be given to you having instructions like: Make the headline BOLD. The bullet list must have Times New Roman font and 13 px font size. Add Background to the slide. Write roll number in footer using Georgia font having size 10 pixels. With thes instructions, youll have to make a single (or max. 2 slides) in 15 minutes. If you know the basics of MS Powerpoint, you can finish it in 5 minutes. After completion, take printout, write the name, roll number & put your sign and submit it. Thats it and Youre done with CPT/DEST and you can switch on your mobile phones. In DEST, only Typing test (first one) and in CPT all the three tests are conducted. You can qualify the exam with a little practice of 4 days right before the exam.
