Task 3 Full score Full score (Orchestral) is an entire score of a musical composition showing each instrumental part separately.

A Full score is most commonly used for an orchestra and is suitable for this use as it consists of instrumentation for the woodwind ,brass, percussion and strings sections however a modern orchestra will also include a keyboard section consisting a keyboard and celesta. The reason a full score is good is because the conductor of the orchestra is able to see every musicians notated part making it easier for the conductor to identify mistakes and make reference to each musicians part in regards to if he would like that particular musicians part to change or stay the same. The reason a full score would be bad is because a full score does not encourage creativity amongst the musicians part as they are told what to play through musical notation. Individual part An individual part is a notated part specifically written for that individual instrument. As a guitar part may given the chords whereby a sa ophone part may be given the melodic line it is re!uired to play. "ndividual parts are given in both classical orchestras and #a$$ big bands. An individual part is commonly used for individual instruments and suitable for that use as it contains the individual part they need to play. The reason an individual part would be good is because the instrumentalist is able to focus on only his%her part making it easier for them to play as for a conductor a full score has has lots of instrumentation for different instruments, however the reason why individual part may be bad is that there is a lack of visual communication between the instrumentalists and that may cause slight mistakes. Piano/Vocal Score A piano%vocal score is musical score that shows voice parts in full and orchestral parts in the form of piano transcription. "t is commonly used for operas, vocal or choral composition. There are two main types of a piano&vocal score. The first kind of score consists of those scores created by a composer in the process of composing where it consists of a harmonic map which is an outline of the chord progression that may be used in the completed composition. The second type of score includes scores that are arrangements or transcriptions of the composition. These are usually made by someone other than the composer. The reason a piano%vocal score is suitable for its us for operas vocal and choral compositions because it displays the harmonic progression in vivid detail for the piano and contains the melodic line and the words for the vocalists. The reason a piano vocal score is good is because is because it is great tool for composing over a broad hori$on in regards to musical composition as well for orchestras. The reason a piano vocal score is bad is because the harmonic structure in regards to chord inversions in relation to other instruments such as the guitar has a more limited harmonic range. Lead Sheet A lead sheet is a form of music notation that specifies the essential fundamentals of a popular song however it can be used for different types of songs. These essential elements include the melody, the lyrics and the harmony. 'ead sheets are commonly used for (a$$ ensembles where the pianist plays the harmony and lead instruments would often focus on the melody. These lead instruments would consist of a trumpet, trombone and sa ophone. )usicians is the (a$$ ensemble are able to use the chord symbols part of the harmonic%chord progression to improvise. A lead sheet is suitable for that use because it contains what each instrument needs as the piano needs the chords to accompany the the group as the piano primarily is the groups harmonic backbone whereby the lead instruments

play the melody and are traditionally the first instruments to improvise. The reason a lead is sheet is good is because it is not notated for a particular instrument which encourages creativity amongst instrumentalists where the guitarist could be responsible for playing the harmony instead of pianist or organ. The melody could be played by lead instruments or even sung however the reason why a lead sheet would be bad is because it would not be suitable for other types of ensembles such as orchestras or big bands and there is not musical notation for individual instruments. Graphic Score A graphic score* also described as graphic notation is the representation of music through the use of visual symbols outside the area of traditional music notation. +raphic notation took an uprising in the ,-./0s and it is commonly used in combination with traditional music notation in e perimental music where standard notation can be ineffective which makes graphic notation%score within that use. The reason a graphic score is good is because it can be used in e perimental music where standard notation and also encourages creativity within music notation however graphic notation is not good because it cannot me used for other types ensembles in particular such as orchestras and big bands.
