Learn How to Bead This Easy Netted Bezel!

Ever since I purchased my first cabochons from Gary Wilson at my very first Bead Fest Philadelphia back in 2003 I!ve been obsessed "ith fi#urin# out ho" to bead around them so that I can use them in other beaded $e"elry pro$ects% &nd "hile I love the techni'ues of bead embroidery for be(elin# around a cabochon as the "orkin# mother of a five)year)old I sometimes find that kno"in# ho" to bead a 'uick be(el in less than t"enty minutes can put me on the fast track to a ne" piece of finished $e"elry* Workin# on my most recent challen#e pro$ect for Beadwork ma#a(ine I "anted to fi#ure out ho" to bead a lacy open be(el for a set of sea #lass components% I!ve seen other tutorials for netted be(els that be#in on the back of the cabochon but I never liked the finished look so I decided to start at the front and "ork my "ay back% What I discovered "as that this techni'ue "orks for $ust about any shape or si(e of cabochon stone or component it takes less than five feet of beadin# thread and it takes less than thirty minutes to complete% Give it a try* Materials: +abochon ,I used a 30-.0mm oval #emstone cabochon for this tutorial but it can easily be ad$usted for any si(e or shape%/ 2 #rams si(e 00 seed bead in 2 contrastin# colors ,& B/ 20 3mm round copper #lass +(ech druk beads ,+/ 00 .mm #emstone beads in color to match or contrast cabochon ,1/ Beadin# thread of your choice ,2 lb% Fireline recommended/ Tools:

3i(e 02 beadin# needle 4hread cutters or scissors +hain nose or flat nose pliers ,optional but helpful for #ettin# needle throu#h ti#ht spaces/
Step-by-step Instructions

Step : 4o be#in your netted be(el cut a five foot len#th of thread% 3trin# a stop bead leavin# a 25 tail% Pick up 0 B 0 1 0 B 2 & 0 + 2 &% 6epeat until you have a total of 7 +% Pass throu#h the first 3 beads strun# and pull snu#%

Step !: Pick up 3 & 0 B 0 1 0 B 3 & and pass throu#h the ne-t B)1)B in the rin#%

Step ": 6epeat around for a total of five 5points5 on your star% Pass throu#h the first 7 beads added in the previous step%

Step #: Pick up 8 & 0 B 0 + 0 B 8 &% Pass throu#h the ne-t B)1)B set of beads from the previous round% 6epeat around passin# throu#h the first set of beads added until you e-it from a B)+)B set% Place your cabochon face do"n in the center of the be(el% 4he 5arms5 of the nettin# should e-tend around the cabochon and reach onto the back%

Step $: 9se your fin#ers to #ently pull the last round of netted 5arms5 around the back of the cabochon "hile keepin# the tension on your "orkin# thread tau#ht% Pick up 7 & 0 B 0 + 0 B 7 & and pass throu#h the ne-t B)+) B set of beads in the previous round% 6epeat for a total of 7 +%

Step %: Pick up 0 + pass throu#h the ne-t B)+)B set of beads in the previous round% 6epeat until you have added a total of 7 +% Weave your thread throu#h the circle several times tyin# a fe" half)hitch knots as necessary and addin# a drop of #lue if desired% Weave your thread into the be(el and trim close to the bead"ork%

Step &: Flip the be(el over and remove the stop bead% Weave the tail into the initial rin# of beads tyin# a fe" half hitch knots and addin# a drop of #lue if desired% Weave any remainin# thread into the be(el and trim close to the bead"ork%

:o" here!s the fun part; you can customi(e this for any cabochon or stone usin# any beads you have handy* For s'uare cabochons make an initial rin# of beads usin# . #emstone or .mm beads% Wrap your netted 5arms5 around the corners of the cabochon and cinch to#ether on the back of the cabochon% 4hink about embellishments for your finished netted be(el% <ou can add thinks like spike beads #umdrop beads or even vinta#e nailheads% If you "ant to add your embellishment beads spaced out evenly make sure you have an odd number of #emstone or .mm beads in your initial rin#% For round cabochons you can use an even number of #emstone or .mm beads in your initial rin#% <ou can make your netted be(el "ith more rounds as pictured "ith my spiky cabochon netted be(el% &dd lots of other embellishments "hen you!ve finished "ith the be(el like e-tra rounds and
