Harish, HR Section,KGS kharish@npcil.co.in Mob:09448405252 Geographically Kaiga holds a unique position as it is located in the midst of Western Ghats, one of the richest biodiversity spots in the world. If one comes to this area is enchanted by the beauty of its evergreen forests and silent valleys of river Kali. Further, the area falls in the neighborhood of Anshi National park, one of the internationally acknowledged IBAs (Important Bird Areas) in India. Kaiga is located 56 Kms North-East of coastal city, Karwar in Karnataka State.
Date and Time of Programme 12 January, 2014 - 05:30 hrs to 16:00 Hrs Rules
Each team will be given a unique Bird name. Team will be constituted by the organizers based on entries received. Each team will be assigned a team leader and two to three birding experts. All team members shall follow leaders instructions. There will be six to eight pre-determined transects. Bird Marathon will start at 05:30 hrs and end at 13:00 Hrs During the Marathon team members shall not communicate/discuss with other teams. They shall merely log down in the provided bird-list log book. At the end of Marathon, Captain of each team shall submit their logbook to the adjudication team. The completed logbook will be the property of KGS. Precautions: Team members shall avoid white / bright colored dress. Team members shall wear shoes. Team members shall not disturb wildlife, birds or the environment. Team members shall follow all the rules and regulations that is conveyed to them by the Organizing Committee.
Logging of Data:
All species sighted/heard must have been done so by members of the team, and must have been positively identified. All species that have been heard only must be marked with a HO in the logbook but will qualify as a species entry. Any sighting of the species other than on the checklist should be reported as a separate entry in a suitable spot on your log book. Please note that the decision made by the adjudicators will be considered final. The adjudicators will have all the rights to verify the sightings if they have any doubt about its authenticity. Any logbooks with more than five wrong entries (if found by adjudicators) will be considered void. All species, residents and winter migrants must be recorded. Most importantly, no manner of artificial attraction of birds would be allowed. No clapping ,chucking a stone in to the canopy or other form Interesting Places Around of flushing or attracting by any form of whistling or other source. Do not Anshi NP - 20 Kms collect eggs or otherwise disturb a nest. Any team, if found to violate Dandeli WLS - 60 Kms this term, will be disqualified from the Marathon Palolem Beach, Goa - 70 Kms Panjim, Goa - 150 Kms What you will be provided: Colva Beach, Goa - 120 kms A logbook that contains the species list of the region to note down all Murudeswar - 150 kms details and routes of the area Transportation to the Birding spot, food packets and water Hostel accommodation on twin sharing basis will be provided on nominal charge.
How to participate:
To take part in the Bird Marathon you must register your name with the organizers of Kaiga Bird Marathon. To register your name, please e-mail your details i.e. Name, Address, Mob. No, alternate e-mail etc in the format as given in the registration form. The registration will close on 25th December 2013. Details of the Bird watch sites in and around Kaiga will be made known later to the all the admitted participants only.
For Birders from Bengaluru: Kaiga township is about 560 Kms from Bengaluru and is well connected to Bengaluru by road and rail. Direct private buses ply to Kaiga Township from Bengaluru. Bus operators like Seabird Tourists starts from Gandhi Nagar Bengaluru around 19:00/20:00 Hrs and reach Kaiga Township around 08:30 Hrs. Alternate transport is Bengaluru to Hubli by any of the train and by KSRTC bus to Kaiga Township via Karwar (5hrs) or by NPCIL run vehicle from Hubli Railway Station at 17:00 hrs on every Saturday. Karwar falls in Konkan Railway route and border with Goa. You can alight at Karwar and reach at Kaiga Township either by NPCIL run vehicle or by KSRTC bus.

I am participating in the Kaiga Bird marathon at my own risk and the organizers shall not be liable for any loss / damage or injury as a result of my parcipation.
