A. ETABS :
FULL FORM: Extended 3D Analysis of Building Systems Numerical Method: The characteristic properties of a buildings mathematical model, thereby allowing the graphical creation of a buildings model in the same sequence that it will actually be constructed Primarily used for: This program is optimized for modeling building systems Limitations of that software: it works only node to node Software developed by: Computers and Structures, Inc.

B. SAP 2000
FULL FORM: Structural Analysis Program Numerical Method: Solvers that have been tried and tested by the industry for over 35 years. Primarily used for: general-purpose civil-engineering software ideal for the analysis
and design of any type of structural system.

Software developed by: Computers and Structures, Inc.

C. STAAD PRO FULL FORM: Structural Analysis and design Numerical Method: Finite element analysis Primarily used for: allows structural engineers to analyze and design virtually any type of structure through its flexible modeling environment, advanced features and fluent data collaboration. Limitations of that software: While analyzing frames with uniformly varying load if a node is inserted in the beam there is error in the fixed end moment. Software developed by: Bentley Systems, Incorporated

D. RM BRIDGE Numerical Method: Finite element analysis Primarily used for: Performs 4D (time) modeling of the bridge to simulate construction, determine resilience during seismic and natural events, and analyze rolling stock Software developed by: Bentley Systems, Incorporated E . STRAP STRAP - STRuctural Analysis Programs Description:A 3D static and dynamic, frame and finite element analysis and design system. Pre and post-analysis options quicken and simplify data input and results interpretation. Developer: ATIR Engineering Software Development Ltd

F. SPACE GASS

Numerical Method: Finite element analysis Description:For small beams, trusses and portal frames to large high rise buildings, towers, cranes, and bridges. Features include moving loads, cable modeling, etc. Developer: SPACE GASS structural engineering software.

G.ALGOR Numerical Method: Finite element analysis Primarily used for: Includes design, analysis, and simulation tools. Software simulation capabilities include static stress and mechanical event simulation with linear and nonlinear material models, linear dynamics, steady-state and transient heat transfer, steady and unsteady fluid flow, electrostatics, full multi physics, and piping. Software developed by: ALGOR, Inc.

H .TEDDS Numerical Method: Finite element analysis Primarily used for: Microsoft Word-based electronic calculation pad and library of automated structural engineering calculations and tools including wind and seismic loading, continuous beam analysis, and a custom section editor. Software developed by: SOFTEK Services Ltd. I.PROKON Description: Frame and finite element analysis. Frame gives freedom to design in 2D and 3D. Includes linear, second order, non-linear, modal, harmonic, and earthquake analysis. Steel member and connection design. The steel member design modules can be used for elastic and plastic design of structural steel members. The steel connection design modules can be used for design of common welded and bolted steel Developer: PROKON software consultants, Canada.

IMPROVEMENTS OF SAP 2000 v14 OVER SAP2000 v11 A Quick-Start option is provided for easy modeling of reinforced concrete sections. Nonlinear Shear wall capabilities Material-based damping is available for linear and nonlinear direct-integration time-history analysis. Material-based damping is available for steady-state and PSD analysis. A nonlinear, layered shell element using a directional material model has been added for pushover analysis of shear-wall structures and similar applications. Stiffness-proportional damping uses initial stiffness instead of tangent stiffness to improve the consistency of results and convergence behavior. Section Designer has been enhanced for the display of fiber-model PMM surface. The default material properties for concrete have been modified to improve convergence behavior. The tangent stiffness used for the iteration of fiber hinges and multi-linear links has been changed to improve convergence. Material-based damping is available for steady-state and PSD analysis. The rigid-response calculation in response-spectrum analysis has been enhanced for NRC and general use. Base reactions for response-spectrum and modal time-history analysis have been improved for springs and grounded link supports to better capture missing-mass effects. Base reactions no longer include constraint forces at restraints, for consistency. Fully automated bridge design check per AASHTO Guide Specifications for LRFD Seismic Bridge Design 2009 has been implemented, including pushover analysis when required.
