Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche

H.E. Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche (1930-2002) belongs to the last generation of teachers to have been fully trained in Tibet in the vast wealth of Vajrayana teachings and methods. He held superb teaching lineages, primarily in the Nyingma tradition of Tibetan Vajrayana, which he taught unceasingly throughout his life. The main emphasis in whatever he taught was pure motivation. After the Communist conquest of Tibet in 1959, Rinpoche went into exile in India and Nepal. During the next twenty years, in various refugee camps and settlements, Rinpoche served as lama who administered to the refugees spiritual needs, as a camp leader who organized work projects, and as a physician Tibetan medicine. Rinpoche traveled to the United States in 1979. The combination of his warm personality, his depth of knowledge, and his meditative realization magnetized thousands of students. His tireless teachings led him to Europe, Russia, Korea, Hong Kong, Australia, and South America. He resettled in Brazil in 1995 after successfully establishing numerous centers and meditation groups in the United States and other places. In order to maintain his lineage teachings, he ordained a number of his Western students as teachers and gave them specific authorizations to teach. Since Rinpoches Parinirvana on November 17, 2002, the extensive Brazilian network of centersmany with their own resident lamas and meditation groups have been under the spiritual direction of Chagdud Khadro, Rinpoches wife, whom he ordained as a lama in 1997. Rinpoches work is maintained by Chagdud Gonpa Foundation in North America, by Chagdud Gonpa Brasil, and by Chagdud Gonpa Hispanoamerica in Spanish-speaking Latin America. The Mahakaruna Foundation administers support for Chagdud Gonpa and associated monasteries in Tibet and Nepal.

Stupa represents the enlightened mind of Buddha

In Tibetan, the word for stupa is Choten and means support offerings, a vessel of consecrated substances, including relics of enlightened teachers. According to our teacher Rinpoche, to see a stupa, touch it, remember it or hear the wind blowing around, we established an interdependence with enlightened mind. As a powerful generator of positive energy, it is a sacred presence that radiates peace, harmony and healing to the four corners of the world and dispels negative energy. Historically, the eight stupas dating back to the time of Buddha Shakyamuni, who, before dying, gave instructions to his disciple Ananda to guard his relics in a stupa. So that all who could see and venerate this stupa would experience peace and joy. After the cremation of Buddha, his relics were divided into eight stupas, each representing an aspect of your life:
1) The stacked Lotus Stupa commemorates the birth of Buddha in Lumbini Grove. 2) The Enlightenment Stupa commemorates the Buddhas victory over the forces of delusion at the time of his enlightenment. 3) The Stupa of Many Gates celebrates the turning of the Dharma wheel, his first teachings in Sarnath. 4) The Stupa of Descent of the Celestial Kingdom of Tushita marks the arrival of the Buddha after he went to Tushita to teach the dharma to his mother 5) The Stupa of Miracles celebrates the miracles performed by Buddha. 6) The Stupa of Reconciliation celebrates the meeting of dissident factions of the pool in the forest of Bamboo. 7) The Stupa of Complete Victory celebrates the voluntary extension of the duration of his life (also known as stupa of long life). 8) In the Parinirvana Stupa commemorates the death of Buddha at Kushinagar, when he went to a state beyond suffering.

The eight stupas built in Khadro Ling, shown in the photo above, have the same meaning as the stupas of the Buddha.

Restoration project of the stupas in Rigdzin Ling

All proceeds from sales of this calendar are going to the restoration fund of The Eight Stupas at Chagdud Gompa Rigdzin Ling in California. Please, rejoice with us in the vast benefits of your offering to this incalculable source of blessings! Tibetans knew that no matter what stupas looked like on the outside, they contained incredible blessings. Just to see them was a blessing. To touch them was a blessing. To hear the sound of the wind blowing around them was a blessing. And that was why they built themfor the blessings, just the blessings. If one participates in a stupas construction or honors the completed stupa with an altruistic resolve to benefit all beings, then the blessings are such that the Buddha himself could not describe them.

If you want to be kind, then it is entirely up to you.
