M0 Experiment Lab Report: Error Analysis VI (1):

The first experiment is about finding the period of a pendulum. Instead of recording one result of the pendulum swinging, we create a more accurate description of the period by recording a set of data of the different trials. Listed below is a data chat labeling ten different trials calculating the time it takes to complete five periods. (We use the result of five periods because it is easier to measure a longer period of time.) We then take this result and form the data table below. The periods in the right column are determined by taking values in the middle column (our recorded results) and dividing them by five.

Calculations for V(1): l = l+ d/2 l= 0.560m

d/2 = 0.0220m

l = 0.000500m l = 0.582m
Tavg = (Sum of T)/(Number of trials) Tavg = (T1 + T2 + T3 + T4 + . + T10)/10 = 1.51 Standard Deviation () = 0.016125 T = (1.51 0.016125) seconds

VI (2):
The second experiment is about finding a springs constant. Instead of measuring the weight of one mass and dividing it by the displacement of the spring, we used a more accurate method to determine the constant. We measured the displacement of different values of mass and formed a graph of the data set weve acquired. Once we obtained an accurate line graph of our data, (mass dependent of displacement), we found the slope of the best fit line which describes the data we obtained. This slope that we have obtained should give us an accurate description of the spring constant (with a margin of error).

By using the excel software, I was able to do a linear regression and obtain the values of the Slope of the graph above and the uncertainty in the value of the slope. S (slope of graph) = (7.746175 0.034111) (cm/g)

S = (7.75
