Dr. Barbara McClanahan is an Associate Professor of Elementary Education at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. She became the first full-time professor stationed at the McCurtain County Campus in Idabel in 2008. Here she teaches all the reading courses required for the Elementary Education program and supervises the Master's Reading Specialist Program. Dr. McClanahan grew up in Edmond but moved with her family to Big Spring, Texas, in the eighth grade. She graduated from Texas Tech in 1964 with a B.A. in History. After raising a family of four children, she returned to school to earn teaching credentials and ultimately earned endorsements in all-level Special Education and English as a Second Language as well as Master Reading Teacher Certification. She earned a Master's in Reading and a doctorate in Supervision, Curriculum, and Instruction from Texas A&M-Commerce while teaching full time at Forney Middle School in Texas. Her research interests include professional development (the topic of her dissertation), struggling readers, and technology in education. She presents frequently at various conferences and has published several articles and a book chapter on these topics.
