&'& E(ecutive Summar)
The Oracle SOA suite was chosen as one of our key enabling technologies for enterprise application integration and developing agile business processes. Currently, several key applications are being developed on the Oracle SOA 10g suite, including the new dentity !anage"ent syste" # $!%. Oracle released a "a&or new version of SOA, 11g and the final 10g develop"ent release was issued in Septe"ber '00(. )orking with Oracle SOA 10g has revealed several proble"s, which have re*uired (0 days to address over the last year. These include installation proble"s, bugs in the +$eveloper develop"ent tool, proble"s following server restarts, and bugs in the hu"an workflow service. Consultants have all advised us to upgrade to 11g as soon as possible to get a "ore reliable and efficient develop"ent environ"ent. Oracle will end support for version 10g in '01,, which will "ake an upgrade essential in '01'-1,. n the "eanti"e, Oracle.s support for 10g is "ini"al as "any other users have already upgraded. f the university continues with version 10g for another year, we will waste further days dealing with the proble"s of 10g and increase the work re*uired to "igrate newly developed syste"s fro" 10g to 11g. n addition, we would need to spend 10 days patching version 10g to the final point release in order to get any useful support at all. Separate pro&ects will be re*uired to "igrate 10g applications for each business area. 3ote/ the pro&ect esti"ate includes 14 days of training across Applications $ivision, esti"ated at 5 people attending courses of , days each. t e6cludes 10 days of effort for updating develop"ent standards7 these days will be sub"itted as a proposal to the A88009 process i"prove"ent code.
