Carnival Games
You do not have to use the game names listed below. Feel free to create your own based on your group, organization, school, theme, troop, etc. Most games can be adjusted to be harder or easier depending on the materials used for the game, distance between the game and play line, rule adjustments for different ages and more. NOTE: Some areas do not allow gambling. Check with local laws before choosing your games.

Carnival Games

Animal Cage
Use a large wire dog cage lled with stuffed animals. Collect at least 12 similar keys that look like they might t the lock. If the player picks a winning key, they get their choice of stuffed animal from within the cage.

At the Races
Make a racetrack with six lanes. You can use a playing board and markers (such as Hot Wheels) or sheets of paper for your players to be their own markers. Each lane needs 8-12 spaces. Have each player roll a dice and if they roll their number, they move ahead one space. The one to nish rst wins. You can also roll two dice, one identies the lane and the second the number of spaces they move. Be sure to identify which die is which.

Balloon Darts
Attach small balloons to a piece of plywood with thumbtacks. Water balloons are a good size. Using darts, your players need to pop the balloons. You can place prize slips inside the balloons or they get a prize depending on the number popped.

Balloon Pop
Put prize strip into the balloon and blow it up about 3/4 of the way. Players get a balloon and they have to sit on it to pop it. When they do, they have a chance to get a prize as listed.

Balloon Stomp
Put a slip of paper with a prize into the balloon. Blow it up. Tie a piece of string to the balloon and the recipients ankle. Without using hands, the player has to stomp and break open the balloon using only his non-attached foot.

Bank-a-Shot
Set up an easel with a basket under it. The goal is to throw the bean bag or ball so it bounces off the easel and lands in the basket. You can adjust difficulty by changing the size of the basket, the distance between the player and basket, the type of ball, etc.

Basketball
If you have a basketball, get three balls and let your players try to make a shot from a specic spot. For younger players, see if you can nd an adjustable hoop for them to use.

Bean Bag Throw

Fill three plastic soda bottles with enough sand to make them difficult to knock over. Place them on a high table or pedestal. Give your participant bean bags (or tennis balls) to throw and knock over the bottles. You can also use milk bottles or other items in place of the soda bottles.

Bean Bag Toss

All you need is a hole in a at surface and a bean bag. You can put a clown face on the bottom of a cardboard box with a hole for his mouth. You can also do multiple holes of varying sizes. For more durable boards, use foam core or plywood. Part of the fun is the art on the board. Make larger holes for younger players and smaller holes for older ones. You can purchase these games from online vendors.

Beat the Dealer

Set up chairs and a dealer. This is the same as playing Blackjack or 21. The player tries to beat the dealers hand without going over 21. To make it more fun, create oversized playing cards.

BINGO
You can use a standard BINGO set or add your own cards designed for your theme. In addition, you can let your players put their own numbers on their cards, just let them know the numbers for each column. Ask for donations from local businesses, organizations or individuals to help offset the cost of prizes.

Bowling
Fill six to ten plastic soda bottles with enough water or sand to keep them upright, but easy enough to knock over. Arrange them in a triangle. Make a line ten feed from the rst pin. This is where balls are rolled / thrown to knock the bottles over.

Bozo Buckets
Using multiple buckets placed in a line about six inches apart. Put prizes in each bucket. Label each bucket with a number (1-6). It might be easier to attach the buckets to a board to keep them in the correct location. Players stand about two feet from the rst bucket. They get one ping pong ball. Starting with the rst bucket, they get the prize(s) in it if the ball goes into and stays in the rst bucket. This happens with each bucket and the gifts are cumulative and usually larger the farther the ball is being tossed. NOTE: You may choose not to put prizes in the buckets so that there is a chance for the ball to bounce out.

Bushel Basket Toss

Attach one to three large bushel baskets onto a board. Angle the board about 45. Players try to toss a ball into the basket so it doesnt come out.

Cake Walk
For a cake walk, ask players to donate a plate with baked goods such as cake, cupcakes or cookies. Print large numbers on sheets and laminate. Tape them in a circle on the oor or put them on chairs in a circle. Put the same numbers in a hat. Play music and everyone chooses a spot when it stops. Pull one or more numbers out of the hat and those that are chosen get to choose a treat. NOTE: Before asking for donations, be sure you can accept homemade goods. Some areas require that goodies be purchased.

Can Toss
Use clean paint cans. Put them in a predetermined pattern. Throw bean bags into the cans. They have to be completely inside the can to count. Instead of bean bags, use beanie buddies or similar small stuffed animals to throw.

Chip Head
Make sure your foam head is stable. You may need to attach it to a board or table. Put shaving cream over a foam head. Toss chips such as puffy Cheetos at the head and have them stick to earn a prize.

Clothespin Drop
Youll need a glass jar and wooden clothespins. Stand above the jar and drop the clothespin into it. Larger mouthed jars work better for younger players. Clothespins can be dropped in a variety of ways: Drop with a straight arm at shoulder height Drop with a bent arm while standing straight up Put under chin and not use hands Be sure everyone drops the clothespins the same way.

Croquet
Cut a half circle from a box. You may choose to do three, a large center and two smaller ones on either side. Test your ball in the holes to make sure the ball goes in. Knock the ball with the mallet into one of the holes. Easier holes get smaller prizes, harder holes get better prizes.

Dinosaur Dig
Fill a wheelbarrow, large tub or hard plastic wading pool with sand. Bury small plastic dinosaurs in the sand. Allow your players to dig them up with a small shovel. Instead of sand, you can use corn, rice or anything that can easily be dug. Also, you can replace the dinosaurs with coins and gems for a pirate theme, jewelry for a princess theme, etc.

Duck Pond
Fill a bucket, tub or kiddie swimming pool with water. Mark rubber ducks so one is the winner (red). Let kids pick a duck.

Duck Race
Get two (or more) sections of gutter and the same number of ducks. Seal the ends of the gutter so it can hold water. Version 1: Fill the gutter halfway with water. Place the ducks at one end and the participants blow the ducks. The rst one to the end wins. Version 2: Fill the gutter halfway with water. Place the ducks at one end. The participants splash in the water to make the ducks move away from them. The rst to the end wins. Version 3: Put the ducks at one end of the empty gutter. Using hoses, spray the ducks to the far end. First one that touches wins.

Feed the Animal

Make a backboard with an animal on it. Make the mouth the hole to toss food through. The food can be beanbags, balls or even foam food you nd at a discount store. Make it harder by using a slingshot to toss the food into the animals mouth.

Fire Alley
Create a board with a lot of holes in it. The holes should be larger than the ball. Both edges should have lips to help hold the ball on the board. The goal is to roll a ball through along the holes and end up at the end of the alley without the ball falling into a hole.

Fishbowl Toss
Toss a ping pong ball into one of a group of goldsh bowls. You can put in live goldsh if you choose to do that for a prize. Otherwise, you can give prizes depending on the number of balls that end up in the bowls.

Fishing Pond
Create a shing pole from a doll rod and string. You can make a hook so they have to hook the sh or use magnets for younger players. Alternatively, you can put a clothespin on the end and have someone attach prizes from behind a screen or wall.

Football Toss
Hang a hula hoop or old tire and have your player throw the football through it. Using only one contact point allows the hula hoop to move and makes it more difficult for older players. Making more than one connection point keeps the hula hoop still for younger players. You might also nd cutting different sized circles out of a piece of plywood will give you the ability to give out a range of prizes depending on the difficulty of the hole.

Frisbee Toss
You can do it similar to the football toss. Alternatively, lay the hula hoop on the ground and have your players aim for that. The frisbee has to be completely in the hoop to count.

Guess How Many

Fill a clear jar with jelly beans, buttons or other colorful objects. Everyone gets to guess how many are in the jar. You can give away the jar and contents as a prize or use a different prize so you can reuse the jar in another carnival. Be sure to adjust the number of items in the jar for the next event.

Hockey
Create a game board or mark out an area on the oor where you want the puck to go. Your player hits the puck with the stick and gets a prize depending on the number they land on. You may wish to put a back board in case some players hit it too hard. Increase the difficulty by making a target with various sized holes, each worth different point / prize values.

Horseshoes
Its best if youre somewhere with a horseshoe area. Dont let the lack of one stop you! If youre worried about younger players, use plastic horseshoes instead. The goal is to get the horseshoe to stay on the post.

Marble Drop
More difficult than a penny drop, ll an aquarium or other clear container with water and decorate inside. Place a small container in the bottom. The player drops the marble and tries to get it into the container.

Maze
Youll need a large area for this one. You can make a maze out of cardboard boxes, plywood, bales of hay or anything else you have handy. Give those who get out of the maze within a certain time period a prize.

Mini-Golf Shot
Set up a single hole for your player to hit the ball into. You can make your green with a piece of green felt or Astroturf and an area marked where the ball needs to be after it stops. Make it harder by having the spot at the top of a hill, including hazards and obstacles. You can also create a right angle for another challenge. If youre ambitious, create interchangeable pieces so you can change the course during the carnival to give your players a varied playing experience.

Needle in a Haystack
Create a haystack with hay, shredded newspaper or other items that can be easily obtained in a large quantity. Give the player a time limit, usually less than 30 seconds, and they get to keep anything they nd within that time. You can include wrapped candies, small prizes or tickets with point amounts on them.

Obstacle Course
Set up a lane (or two for larger groups) as an obstacle course. Use items such as cones and cans as obstacles. Depending on your course, you might require your players to do one of the following while navigating: Balance a ball on a tennis racket Dribbling a basketball Bouncing a rubber ball Balancing a ping pong ball on a spoon

Penny Drop
Players stand tall and drop a penny from shoulder / waist height into the jar. If it stays in, they win a prize.

Penny Pitch
Using a polka dot board, the players attempt to throw pennies on the board and have them land on the polka dots. The line should be far enough away that the players have to throw the pennies.

Pong Ball
Using a piece of wood or weighted Styrofoam block, place golf tees into the base. Place ping pong balls on top of the tees. Using a squirt gun, knock one or more ping pong balls off the tees.

Poster Toss
Make a box with multiple small compartments where you can place rolled up posters. There needs to be space between so the ring can go around the poster. When the player tosses a ring and it goes around a poster, they receive the poster.

Pyramid
Create a pyramid by stacking six cans in a triangle shape with three on the rst level, two on the second and one on the top. Each participant gets one to three balls to knock down the cans. You may specify a number they need to knock down from one to all to get a prize.

Q-Tip Shooter
Using a bendy straw and a q-tip, shoot the q-tip by blowing in the shorter end of the straw. Use a glass or bowl to catch the q-tips.

Raffle
Check to make sure you can run a raffle game in your area before planning this. You can ask local businesses for donations. This will keep your cost down and give your players more reason to play. Items you can use include: Gift cards Gift baskets T-shirts Certicates Large items like bikes Electronics Homemade items 50-50 Raffle Services

Ring Toss
Using any round object (weighted soda bottles, ower pots, planted doll rods, etc.) toss circular rings around them. For circular items, you can use embroidery hoops, metal rings, edges of plastic lids youve cut the middle out of, etc. Winners get the ring around the round object.

Shell Game
All it takes is three of the same bowl and a light ball, such as a ping pong ball. Put the ball under one bowl. Shift them around the confuse your players, then let them choose one. If they pick the one with the ball, they win. Kids are very good at watching the balls, so keep a lot of prizes available.

Soccer Kick
Make a plywood board look like players or a net and cut a hole out for the ball to be kicked into. Each player gets three attempts.

Soda Toss
Place soda bottles together. The player must throw the ring around the bottle to win it. The ring must go around the bottle, not lay across the cap or lean against it.

Sponge Toss
Cut a hole out of a board for a volunteers face. Provide them goggles and a rain poncho. The players get three wet sponges. If they hit the face, they win the prize. NOTE: You can have a line for volunteers as well as throwers.

Sucker Tree
Youll need to mark some of the suckers on the end of the stick to indicate those that get prizes. As the players choose the suckers, they get the sucker as a prize. Theyll get additional prizes only if their stick is marked. Your sucker tree can be made from foam shapes, drilled wood, punched cardboard, pegboard, etc. Be sure your players cannot see the back of the board and colored suckers.

Surprise Door
Create a wall with doors. This can be as simple as doors cut out of cardboard on a box. Put a prize behind each door. You could also do a surprise behind a door like spray the player with silly string, release a balloon so it shoots toward them, etc. Be careful with younger players so you dont scare them. You also could make some doors have nothing behind them. NOTE: Alternatively, put doors on the front of a board. Paint the area behind the door with chalkboard paint and write on the prize. Change it every time the door is chosen.

Tic-Tac-Toe Toss
Create a tic-tac-toe board, use sheets of paper or just a grid with tape. Six bean bags have to be tossed in three squares, like one would do to win at tic-tac-toe. You can make this more difficult by creating a 5 x 5 BINGO board. Players need to line up ve bean bags out of the ten they are given to win.

Toss Gallery
Using foam boards and a backdrop (such as a sheet) to contain the balls, let a volunteer with glasses or goggles walk back and forth in this area while the player tries to hit them. Give them 20 seconds to do so. Each hit is worth a point. Throws which are deliberately hard earn no points.

Wooden Nickel Toss

You can get wooden nickels at craft stores. Youll need a at circle table with winners rings painted on it like a bullseye. The nickel is tossed onto the circle and the prize that is most under it is what the player wins.
