Concept Description
Choice for logo More often then not I Michiganders use their hands to show where they are from, which is why I wanted to use hands instead of an exact outline of the state. I also decided to use a circle to unify the image. After looking at other competitor logos I decided to use the acronym of the organization and the full name in order to ensure the anyone who looked at would know exactly what it represented and knew the name of the company. Colors In the brief the client like the idea of using bright colors similiar to Boulder County Public Health. Since Michigan is known for their lakes, and Public Health organizations tend to use a form of blue in their logo I decided to use a bright blue against grey and white in order to accent it. Typography I mentioned this in Part I, but I decided to use Myriad Pro for the typeface. In addition in order to bring more attention to the MPHTC I decided to make it bold. Since the full name was not as important as the acronym I decided to dsiplay the ful name in a regular font. Design Process I started by looking at the brief and the needs of the client. It was clear that they wanted a new logo with bright colors, that also included the outline of the state. I then researched competitor logos and ralized that some included the outline of the state, but they also included, the acronym and the full name of the organization, which is why I included both. Since Michiganders tend to show where they are from by using their hand as a reference I thought it would be more effective to use an outline of a hand instead of the actual outline of the state of michigan. In addition I also decided to experiment with bright colors and different shapes of hands. I decided on the simplest version of both in order to ensure that the viewer does not get overwhelmed. I also decided to use one color because logos with alot of text (which this has) and several colors tend to be to overwhelming.
