1. Introduction
TECHNO Pipe System is an advanced system of pipes and fittings manufactured from polypropylene random copolymer (PPR). Its characteristics make it one of the most technologically advanced systems available. The most special feature of TECHNO Pipe System is the assembly technique (Thermal Fusion). The assembly method, availability in all size ranges, versatility of the system, quality of the products and the excellent chemical and physical properties make TECHNO Pipe System the most ideal piping system in PPR lines. Polypropylene or polypropene (PP) is a thermoplastic polymer and is non-hazardous to human health. It is manufactured in the chemical industry by polymerization which is a process of combining many small molecules known as monomers into a covalently bonded chain or network of repeated polypropylene monomer as seen in the below diagram:

Our Mission Our Vision

2. TECHNO Main Featuresm

Electric-Chemical Corrosion Resistance Techno pipes have high electrical insulation properties and are virtually non-conductive. Its volume at 20C is more than 11016 ohm cm. It is also chemically inert and highly resistant to acidic and alkaline substances. These properties mean that there is minimal internal buildup of deposits from hard water with dissolved limestone. No special protection is needed when Techno pipes come in contact with building materials such as cement and lime. Stray Current Resistance High electrical resistance eliminates the problem of perforation of pipes and fittings due to stray electric currents. Low Thermal Conductivity The thermal conductivity of Techno Pipe System at 20C is 0.24 W/Mk. This low value indicates that heat loss and condensation on the surface are much less than in metallic pipes made of iron, steel or copper. Thermal conductivity under the same circumstances is 45-60 for iron, 450-600 for steel and 300-400 for copper. No Water-Hammering & Low Pressure Drop The internal surface of Techno Pipe System is smooth, homogeneous and non-porous. Due to low flow resistance, the pressure drop is less compared to other systems.

Low Noise Due to the materials high sound insulation value, the noise level of the system is considerably reduced both with particularly high water flow speeds and when water hammers are present. Long Life Time with Aggressive Working Conditions The quality of the raw materials used and the high manufacturing technology used to produce Techno pipes and fittings ensure long-life reliable products compared with other products. (Further information is given in the Working Conditions section). Easy & Low Cost of Installation Techno pipes and fittings are extremely light and easy to handle on site. Making a connection is simple, quick and safe. The wide range of fittings enables complete installations to be made easily and rapidly. Hygienic and Non Toxic All material used in the production of Techno Pipe System are non-toxic in accordance with current International Standards and are completely safe for use with liquid consumables. No Leakage at Joints The method used to join Techno pipes and fittings guarantee that there is no chance for leakage. (Please see the installation method).

Pressure Loss
The following are some samples of chemical resistance of Techno Pipe System with normal materials & chemicals in normal applications (for complete range of chemicals please see Chemical Performance section). Key: + = Highly Resistant 0 = Fairly Resistant + 0 = Resistance - 0 = Scarcely Resistant - = Non Resistant The production process of Techno Pipe Systems and melting property of the raw materials make the inner surfaces extremely smooth. This reduces the effect on pressure loss (compared to metal systems). So we can consider that the pressure drop is negligible in most of the above mentioned applications.

The socket depth or the welding on the welding distance should mark to the end of pipe.

Thermo Fusion Welding

The effectiveness and durability of the system depends in large part on the fusion welding techniques used in installing the pipes to ensure tightness and stability of its connections. Fusion only takes a few seconds. The pipe is first cut according to the desired length. It is important that the pipes are cut using tools which ensure a clean cut that is perpendicular to the axis. The pipe and fitting are then heated with a welding machine at 260 C (+/- 10 C) and joined without twisting. Heating and welding of pipes and fittings should not be interrupted.

Welding Procedures Use the table below and the figures references for the required timings and welding:

PIPE REPAIRING MANUAL

With a pipe repairing kit, you can easily repair holes (max. 10 mm diameter) on the surface of the pipes. This system makes the repairing process easier especially for the pipes installed in places difficult to reach. You need only; a welding kit, a pipe repairing socket, a pipe repairing stick, and a drill with 6 mm or 10 mm tip.

Preparation for Filling Testing TECHNO System

After installing TECHNO piping system, it is necessary to go through a pressure test. Unlike metal pipes, TECHNO like all other plastic pipe systems has to follow different pressure test procedure owing to their mechanical properties of expansion when subject to pressure, temperature difference and coefficient of expansion. A change in temperature corresponds to a pressure change of 0.5-1.0 bar. Thus, the test medium shall as far as possible, be kept at a constant temperature throughout the test. Test Procedure (According to DIN 1988 Part 2 or BS 6700: 1977) For pressure testing, pressure gauges that allow reading of changes in pressure of 0.1 Bar shall be used fitted at the lowest possible point in the system. Pressure testing for leakages must be conducted while pipe works are still accessible and before concealing or plastering. Finished pipe work must be completely fitted with filtered water and vented.

B. If no leakage is detected, for the next 30 minutes, check if the pressure has dropped by more than 0.6 bars and if there is any visible signs of leakage. Note: If leakage is detected, rectify the leakage area and repeat procedure. If pressure drops by more than 0.6 bars within this period, leakage must have occurred, detect and rectify. C. If pressure drop is within 0.6 bars and no leakage detected, continue the test without restoring the required pressure for the next 120 minutes. During this time, it shall be checked if the pressure drop is more than 0.2 bars and no leakage is detected. Note: If leakage is detected, rectify the leakage area and repeat procedure. If pressure drops by more than 0.2 bars within this period, leakage must have occurred. Detect, rectify and repeat procedure. D. Pressure test is successful when the entire above are met and the readings should be recorded.

Procedure

After pipe work is filled with water and completely vented to release air locks in the system, testing can begin: A. Test pressure = (permissible working pressure + 5 bars ) shall be produced 2 times within 30 minutes at 10 minute intervals. Note: restore by hand pump to required test pressure after the 10 minute interval if the pressure drops. If leakage is detected, rectify the leakage and repeat procedure.

Clamp Spacing in TECHNO PPRC Pipes

Fixed clamp spacings at horizontally installed TECHNO Pipes can be founded by the help of the table below. Clamp spacings in vertical installation should be the same with those in horizontal installation. Distance between support clamps (both fixed and slide) should be carefully maintained as per the table below:

8. Expansion & Stirrups

Each material which undergoes a variation in temperature over time reacts by modifying its size to varying degrees. This phenomenon is called thermal expansion; the body will increase in volume when the temperature rises or contract when it decrees. Thermal expansion may be linear, superficial or cubic, depending on whether it mainly affects one, two or all three of the bodys dimensions. In the case of pipelines, the expansion is mainly linear, since their length far exceeds their other dimensions. The parameter which provides guidance on a pipes tendency to expand or contract in case of a temperature variation is its linear expansion coefficient. Therefore, when designing and constructing installations it is essential to know the value of this coefficient, in order to calculate the amount of expansion/contraction and adopt the necessary measures to ensure that this will not damage the piping. Expansion contraction in TECHNO system pipes
First, it is important to distinguish between the two alternative installation modes: - Installation under concrete - Installation externally (visible)

The effect of the expansion is negligible, since the material is able to absorb it itself and no special measures are required. On the other hand, when pipes are installed outside the walls and exposed to considerable variations in temperature, it is essential to allow for thermal expansion by proceeding as described. The expansion of TECHNO Pipe Systems, in all its application and usage, never causes problems.

cat-sep.indd 32

9/30/12 1:28 PM

Calculating the Expansion

Variation can be calculated using the following formula: L = x L x T Where: L: variation in pipe length (mm), : Linear Expansion coefficient of Material ( = 0.15 mm/m C) of TECHNO PPR, L: length of the pipe section free to expand (m), T: difference in temperature between the time of installation and the operating temperature (C). EXAMPLE 1: Expansion L= 6m, Tm=25 C ( Installation Temperature), Tmax= 95 C (Maximum installation Temperature), From which we obtain: L = 0.15 x 6 x 70 = 63mm (TECHNO Pipe) In this case, the pipe expands, increasing its initial length. EXAMPLE 2: Contraction L= 6m, Tm=25 C ( Installation Temperature), Tmax= 5 C (Minimum installation Temperature), From which we obtain: L = 0.15 x 6 x (-20) = -18mm (TECHNO Pipe) In this case, the pipe contracts, reducing its initial length

piping itself. The following procedures may be used: - Provision of fixed and sliding points; - Compensation with expansion arms. This Technique will secure the piping to the masonry structure of the building, totally or partially preventing the movements generated by thermal expansion.

Fixed Points & Sliding Points

Fixed points prevent pipes from moving, and so must provide a rigid connection between the installation on the one hand and the masonry on the other. They are constructed using rigid collars, consisting of a gripping element, generally metallic, lined with rubber on the pipe side, and a component for fixing to the wall on the other side. Naturally the part in rubber (or in another similar material) is intended to prevent dangerous cutting of the surface of the pipe. Fixed points must normally be positioned where the system changes direction (branches, elbows, etc.) to ensure that the expansion forces are not discharged in these points. In al cases, a fixed supporting point should always be provided next to any joint in the pipe created using a coupling or any other welded fitting. to expand, and thus reduce the relative L value.

EXAMPLE OF A FIXED POINT

Installation Technique When Thermal Expansion is Present

Once the variation in length of the piping has been calculated, the necessary measures must be taken to ensure that its effects do not cause problems for the

Sliding Points Sliding points allow the pipe to move axially in both directions. They therefore have to be positioned well away from joints made using pipe fittings, on a free length of the pipes surface. The collar which forms the sliding support point must be absolutely free from parts which might damage the outside surface of the pipe.

33
cat-sep.indd 33 9/30/12 1:28 PM

Sliding points also provide support and ensure (provided enough of them are installed) that the pipe remains straight in spite of thermal stresses.

Compensating Using Expansion Arms

With this technique, the pipe run is designed to allow any expansion to be absorbed. To ensure this, expansion arms, where the pipe is able to expand in case of thermal stresses, are installed at points where the direction changes (elbows, tees, etc.). The specifications of these expansion arms are calculated using the following formula: Ls = K (d. L) Where: LS = expansion arm length (mm), F= constant of the material (for PP = 30), D = pipe outside diameter (mm) L = pipe length variation (mm) EXAMPLE To calculate the expansion arm length for a section of TECHNO pipe where: d= 50 mm (outside diameter); L= 6 m; T= 55C From the previous calculations have given a L = 63mm Therefore: LS= 30 (50 x 63) = 1683.7mm Lower thermal expansion coefficient means that the increase in pipe length is reduced.

The Stirrup Distances

To allow correct installation of TECHNO system pipes on the outside of walls, the following is the graph used to calculate the stirrup distances between points. These distances remain the same regardless of whether the pipes are horizontal or vertical.

During handling, storage and use on site, bundles of pipes or individual lengths must be protected against excessive external stresses, such as shaking, knocks, hammer blows, etc. This is even more important as the ambient temperature falls, since at low temperatures the material is more rigid and has a less elastic response to outside stresses. TECHNO Pipe must never be stored where it is subject to direct sun light, Ultra Violet causes ageing in the material. Any contact with sharp edged bodies (such as brick shards) causes cuts on the outside of the pipe which might lead to breakages later. Care must be taken to ensure that this does not occur during storage and installation, and any scratched or scored pipes must not be used.

9. Handling Pipes

10. Air Conditioning Plants

(Chilled water, conditioning refrigerants)
Techno can be normally used in conditioning plants as it is compatible with the ant freezing media commonly employed in the thermo hydraulic field. In case of transport of low temperature fluids, a suitable insulation has to be applied in order to prevent formation of condensate. Using the insulating material with heat conductivity 0,038 W/mK under the conditions specified in the table here below, no formation of condensate will occur.

11. Fire Classification

TECHNO pipes and fittings and classified under the fire classification (NORMALY INFLAMMABLE) according to DIN 4102, in case of fire outbreak of temperature > 80 C, under ideal conditions, with sufficient oxygen only carbon dioxide and water vapors are produced as the raw material of polypropylene Random CO-Polymer is hydrocarbon chain. Toxic fumes or dioxin will not be emitted (C4H4O2).

12. UV Sunlight Effects

All kinds of plumbing materials should be covered from sun light and used in indoor applications, for outdoor application we recommend use of TECHNO COATED Pipes which have proved to bear the sunlight radiation and offer good protection. Depending on the availability of air, water, oxygen and other oxidizing agents, the external layer of LDPE may be effected from direct exposure after long time but that is not true for TECHNO Pipe System.
