Education is meant to shape the personality by Ana-Maria Simionescu Education in its general sense is a form of learning in which the

knowle dge, skills, and habits of a group of people are transferred from one generation to the next through teaching, training, or research. Being educated means a dem onstrated ability to listen carefully, to think critically, to evaluate facts ri gorously, to reason analytically, to imagine creatively, to articulate interesti ng questions, to explore alternative viewpoints, to maintain intellectual curios ity and to speak and write persuasively. If we add to that a reasonable familiar ity with the treasures of history, literature, theater, music, dance and art tha t previous civilizations have delivered, we are getting to close to the meaning of education. To begin with, education represents the first part from our lives. It re presents the first years we spend together with our families. It is about the co mmon sense, the way we speak, behave and look in the society. Children see their parents as some models for them in life. So, as Jim Henson said:"[Kids] don't r emember what you try to teach them. They remember what you are." Moreover, education is also about the inner voice. You grow up thinking how it's the best way to behave, to think, to live. You try to educate yourself and to shape your personality. But, sometimes, you can be overparticular with yo urself. As Heath L. sais:" Often it's not about becoming a new person, but becom ing the person you were meant to be". Furthermore, education is the power to think rationaly, to take the best decisions in life, to be patient and calm and to accept the others.Being educat ed means to know how to show them what you are really thinking and what you real ly are. To continue with, school is the most common thing that consists educatio n. It developes the intellect, presumably including linguistic, mathematical an d analytic capabilities. It is very well known that nowadays school is obligator y. But many centuries ago there were no schools or when they were, there were on ly the men who were supposed to study. Women were only thought how to manage wit h the housework and how to behave with their children and men. This is why there are so many writers that are inspired by this fact in their novels. For example , Jane Austen said:" Give a girl an education and introduce her peoperly into th e world!". If you educate a man, you educate a man; if you educate a woman, you educate a generation. Nevertheless, education helped the humanity to rise like a flower. Nowad ays we don`t have to make face with the nightmares of the wars. We can grow up b eautifuly and to rise our children in peace. So, The best thing for being sad," ,said T.H. White "is to learn something ." That's the only thing that never fails. You may grow old and trembling in you r anatomies, you may lie awake at night listening to the disorder of your veins, you may miss your only love, you may see the world about you devastated by evil lunatics, or know your honour trampled in the sewers of baser minds. There is o nly one thing for it then to learn. Learn why the world wags and what wags it. T hat is the only thing which the mind can never exhaust, never alienate, never be tortured by, never fear or distrust, and never dream of regretting. Learning is the only thing for you. Look what a lot of things there are to learn.
