5 VoIP Module
1 VoIP Module
The VoIP module is designed for testing POTS and IP circuits
and combinations of these circuits that make VoIP possible. For
application details, see Section 4.
Notes
This module can be used with the full family of MTT and xDSL
test sets, however there may be minor screen differences
between the color and black and white models. This Users
Manual uses the color screens for illustrative purposes.
The standard Sunrise Telecom AC adapter may generate low
frequency noise which affects the frequency testing results. For
this reason we recommend that during VF TIMS measurement
the battery or the Sunrise Telecom AC adapter, SS138E be
used.
1.1 LEDs
The module does not use any LEDs for reporting on circuit condi-
tions. It does however indicate its use by the MODULE or xDSL
LED.
1.2 Connector Panel
The module connector panel is shown in Figure 1.
10/100B-T HANDSET 2W
Figure 1 VoIP Connector Panel
The module has the following ports:
10/100B-T
Connect to an IP Ethernet circuit using an RJ-45 UDP connector.
HANDSET
Connect a standard handset using an RJ-9 connector. It is used
for talk/listen functions.
2W
Connect to a POTS circuit using an RJ-11 connector. The pinout
of the RJ-11 connector is shown in the following fgure:

the PSTN POTS.
4.2.4 Voice Quality Measurement
Non-intrusive voice quality measurement is based on the incoming
voice packets (ie. RTP packets) received at the Ethernet port of
the VoIP module. Constant snap shots are taken to the incoming
RTP packets to determine the voice quality at the local endpoint.
Key factors like jitter, packet delay, packet loss and the loss pat-
tern, etc. are fed into a voice quality monitoring process which is
based on the ITU-T G.107 model to generate the R-factor and
MOS scores.
Refer to Figure 44 for a diagram of the circuit setup and see Sec-
tion 2.3.1 for further details.
