Light Reflection 13.2

1st period

While doing our research over light reflection, I found that a lot goes into making a reflection. There are many different kinds of reflection and we talk about specular and diffuse reflection. Also we learned about the law of reflection. The law includes parts like incident and reflection angles. I will also be explaining virtual and real images for flat mirrors. Light reflection is when a ray of light strikes a mirror and is reflected off the mirror. There are several different types of reflection. Diffuse reflection is when light is reflected off rough surfaces like clothes, paper and even the ground. The scattering of this light is how we see most things. Another type of reflection is specular reflection. Specular reflection is the reflection off smooth surfaces at a defined angle. An example of smooth reflection would be a mirror. The law of reflection states that the incident angle and the reflected angle are equal to one another. The incident angle is the angle between the incident ray and the normal. The reflected angle is the angle reflected ray and the normal. Light reflects off a surface at the same angle as it did when it hit the surface (Law of Reflection). An example of how this works would be sunlight reflection off a mirror. The incident ray would be sunlight, the reflection way would be the light that you see when it bounces off the mirror. The normal would be the line in between that divides the two from each other. Flat mirrors are the simplest type of mirrors and produce two types of images; virtual and real images. A real image is the object that produces the image For example, a picture is a real image.. The virtual image is the image that you see, however, only 90% of the original image is produced. The image in the mirror is the virtual image that you are producing. This image is also reversed when you look in the mirror. An example would be when you brush you teeth and you have on a shirt that says FREDS in the mirror it will be backwards and the right side of you body will appear on the left and visa versa.

Altogether, the reflection of light for flat mirrors has a lot of parts. It takes a lot to make a reflection. Diffuse and specular reflection are two different types of reflection. The law of reflection is the law that states how reflection works and the parts that go into it. There are two types of images; real and virtual. The real image is the image that is producing the image that you see (example: a picture) and the virtual image (example: the image of you when you look in a mirror) is the image that you see, this image is also reversed. In conclusion, reflection is when a ray of light strikes a mirror and is reflected off the mirror and it takes many different things to make this possible.
