Literal Craft Text structure Today I want to teach you that readers recognize that most narrative non-fiction stories are either tales of achievement or tales of disaster. Pgs. 106 and 110 These types of stories follow a predictable pattern. Anchor chart to identify the patterns of an achievement story vs. a disaster story (box and bullets, T -chart etc.).

Literal Craft Central message/ Theme Today I want to teach you that readers of narrative non-fiction know that stories are told for a reason. When we uncover this reason, our understanding of the story takes on a whole new level. Book Club Discussion: Why was the story worth telling? What does it serve as an example of?

Literal Craft Central Message/ Theme Today I am going to teach you that another way of determining anarrative texts overall theme is to study the choices a subject makes during a crucial time. Pgs. 107 and 110 Provide students with examples of overall themes such as: To raise a voice for the oppressed, to fight for a right, to take a risk by following a dream, to challenge the government etc. Book clubs review sticky notes and collaboratively determine the overall theme.
