Effect of Code of Conduct

This is all rules and code of conduct for corporate social responsibility adheres by KFC. When the code of conduct agrees with that held by the senior officer, it merely reinforces practices that should already be followed. The code of conduct should fully understand by all KFC employees even the staffs in restaurant KFC, employees need to understand what they need to apply, how they apply and their impact to apply code of conduct to represent their company. There are some strength code of conduct apply by KFC, KFC are not using worker who are under the legal age which below 16 year old for employment in their restaurant and also office. Code of conduct is not allowing Branch Manager to recruit the people who are below 16 year old in Malaysia because need to obey the law of child labor. Attire also a part of code of conduct. The uniform or attire of KFC employees are standardized by KFC especially worker at KFC restaurant, which their blue color uniform, black cap, black slack long pant with black formal shoes. Their attire are tidy all the time when they are working at restaurant KFC, because they are represent the company image, so they are have responsibility to follow and we can observe that majority of employees are follow this rule. Employment practices, In compliance with the applicable laws, regulations codes and industry standard, KFC are expected to ensure that their employees have safe and healthy working conditions and reasonable daily and weekly work schedules. Employees should not be required to work more than the number of hours that are allowed for regular and also overtime work periods under applicable local, state and federal law, and also labor law. Branch Manager can have a guideline to set their reasonable workers daily and weekly working schedules. Employees of all KFC outlets will be awarded 20% salary increment from January 2011. This translates to RM1440 per month from the current RM 1200 per month. They will be awarded bonuses for working during the holidays. Teamwork will be encouraged all the time in order to achieve organization objective. Punctuality of employees also a part of code of conduct, the manager always emphasize to their employees punctuality with their job performance. The punctuality rates of employees are quite high, although still got some employees are late with some reasonable reason. To ensure KFC customers can receive safe and Halal food, food safety becomes a primary responsibility to their company. KFC always maintain strict specification of raw material they are using which is complying with Halal requirements in relation to the manufacturing process, storage and transportation of product supplied. To frying their product they use non-hydrogenated palm oil that contains insignificant amount trans fat and it is 100% cholesterol free. KFC company also giving strict training and monitoring their chief follow the procedure to produce the good quality and safe food to customers. They also expected their employees to immediately report any problem with the food safety to their supervisor or the next level of management. Any product they suspected to be unsafe also must immediately be pulled from distribution until safe can be assured. Moreover, if their employees health or anyone serving the restaurant might negatively

impact food safety should notify the supervisor and determine the proper course of action. So customer can feel safe and able to enjoy their exciting dining experience with guarantees by Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP). CHAMPS attributes become a part of code of conduct, KFC workers in restaurant have to apply the CHAMPS to their service provided, which including the cleanliness and sanitation of the premises and equipment, personal hygiene, hospitality/friendliness in service, accuracy in the serving order, good maintenance, product quality standard and speed of service. If all employees are obeying the CHAMPS attributes to their code of conduct will can provide good services to customers and also improve their performance of jobs. Actually the existing KFC code of conduct applies to their company, suppliers and different types of staffs are not really perfect, it code of conduct is standard but just lake of monitoring. The monitoring to their employees code of conduct is just observes by their manager, example Restaurant Manager monitoring his worker is it apply or obey the code of conduct by his eyes, but it is not really effectively by using the CCTV, manager cannot control too many workers in a workplace. Some employees may do something behind their manager such as smoking, loaf on the job, and also maybe doing something breaches the code of conduct. There are many reason can affect the employees to obey the code of conduct in KFC. Turnover of KFC are very high as we know that, they are always need many workers for their specific busy outlet, some outlet just hastily recruit workers with dont know their worker attitude, discipline and also performance. And the cases breach code of conduct normally is cause by part time workers. However when they get the job opportunity and also are given the book code of conduct, but they never read and obey at their workplace. And some of the restaurant manager they not fully control their workers to obey the code of conduct or let their workers mentality. Bad attitude of worker also will not follow the code of conduct. Example of I-city fighting customer case, a KFC worker shout out to customer with a very bad attitude if want to eat, going back your home make yourself, pig and also socked the customer in the face, before grabbing him around the neck and kicking him into a nearby table. However the case is prove that the customer also have wrong, but the worker must not disrespect the customer by fighting them, the worker must always know he should remember he need to obey the code of conduct every time. In this case, the manager did not participate, he should get out and apologize to his customers at first time if they cannot offer the best for them, what is mean of manager should monitoring the workers? Is it lets worker to settle themselves? This case show that they are not really monitoring their worker to obey the code of conduct well and their manager should pay his responsibility to this case also. The code of conduct if didnt apply to their employees strictly will cause a lot of problem to their company, case happening such as I-city case will destroy the reputation and image of KFC. The bad image may cause customer boycott to buy product from them, decrease the consumption by customers will decrease the revenues and profit. So KFC should make their code of conduct become sleek, eliminate what the weaknesses of the code of conduct they are form, only can prevent long-term benefits of the company, even can prevent the next cases not to be occurs.
