Gender Equality So many women cut their careers short when they have children, because they naturally

prefer caring for them instead of working, whereas men naturally prefer work to childcare. And once the word naturally has reared its head, you can bet that the word evolution will quickly follow, with the phrase caveman days hot on its heels. Everyone present nods sagely; much beard-stroking ensues. Sadly, proponents of the evolutionas-explanation-for-gender-differences idea seem to have fallen victim to something very similar to the fundamental attribution error, a term used in social psychology to describe humans tendency to attribute a persons behavior to their disposition, whi le completely ignoring any situational factors. Although this term refers specifically to individual personality, the same phenomenon seems to be at work when people choose to ascribe gendered behavior to dispositional reasons, instead of acknowledging the possibility that there could be sociological factors at work. Of course, theres no denying that evolution explains almost everything about our physiology, and a good chunk of human behavior. It is when evolution and biological determinism are used to explain everything, without reference to any period other than the present Western society and the vaguely-defined caveman days that problems arise. Yet all one has to do is go back 100 years in time a mere nothing by evolutionary

standards to see that the pink/blue rule is fairly recent, and that the accepted social norms at the time were just the opposite. And since were doing some time-traveling, lets have a look at life just one or two generations ago, and note the behavior of women and men then, compared with women and men today. And then lets take a tour around other countries too, in different continents. Maybe have a look at two people of the same ethnicity, who have been brought up on opposite ends of the globe. In short, tell them to open their eyes to the gendered pressures and influences that surround each of us, which start from the cradle and follow us throughout our lives, and that create the seemingly stark contrast between the average woman and man, before they decide that all gender differences are predetermined, and gender inequality unavoidable.

Gender Equality

To me, this whole gender equality in sports issue seems to be a one way street. Women are able to compete in men's sports, but men aren't able to compete in women's sports. It just doesn't seem fair. The solution is to keep sports in the sections where they belong, men's and women's. I am completely for the equality in support for both men's and women's sports. The fact that, biologically, men are stronger and faster than women, I'm not going to pretend that "girls can do anything boys can do" because we just physically can't. But if a female athlete is so extraordinary that she can play at the male-athletic level, then why deny here a more competitive atmosphere.

In the professional sphere of athletics, girls also get robbed of high-paying, professional athlete salaries. I know that some people cant change. I know there are some people who look at a person, and take what that person is in, all to decide whether or not they are above them. I n some people, this is the only gratification they have I want to live to see the day where we are judged on who we are as people, not gender skin color or anything of the sort. WE need to start focusing on what is similar instead of different. We are moving forward towards this, and one will eight walk into it happily, or get left behind, lost in the old times. Not at all shy, their group, comprised of men well into their 60s. Its been around for centuries. The older male and younger female issue has always been an accepted part of relationships. In a society where the term "cougar" is currently used to denote sexy and attractive women of a "certain age" who are in relationships with younger men, it can seem incongruous to think many older women are not in any type of relationship

at all; that they are overlooked by society's men. The reality is that not all women are cougars. Their important gains have been made in gender equality. Gender gaps in educational . In fact, in many high-income countries, young womens educational attainment now exceeds that of young men. At the same time, most countries have seen a significant increase in female employment rates a trend which slowed only with the recent financial crisis. Weve come a long way, but we still have a long way to go,
