Preface

9e are li2ing in a .orl+ .ith gro.ing "o"ulations an+ increasing consum"tion of natural resources% :ur lifestyles are likely to lea+ to irre"ara-le +amage to the "hysical en2ironment in the near future% :ne estimate from the 9orl+ &ank in+icates that if .e li2e the .ay .e li2e to+ay3 .e may nee+ four earths to satisfy the human nee+s -y the year 2100% It is therefore necessary to inter2ene in the "rocess of consum"tion of resources to im"ro2e the .ays these resources are use+% 7esigners "lay an im"ortant role in this inter2ention% They can +esign "ro+ucts that consume less materials an+ nee+ less energy to o"erate to gi2e the nee+e+ ser2ices% In this short "resentation on Eco-7esign I shall attem"t to ca"ture the salient features of the Eco-7esign metho+ as it is "ractice+ to+ay% I am sure that this "resentation .ill stimulate at least a fe. of my frien+s to ,think +ifferently; an+ to contri-ute to "reser2e the earth for the future generations%
