The MRC trained more than 70 students in addition to the entire University Police
Department over four 3-hour workshops during the month of October in Cultural
Competency Workshop, Phase I. (Right, Dr. Sirju-Johnson engaged students in a
series of activities designed to enhance cultural awareness. Additionally, the MRC
hosted prominent Alumni of Color for Homecoming Weekend , sponsored two
diversity talks and launched the MRC College Experience Mentoring Program at
Binghamton High School.
Congratulations to the Confronting Racism Coordinating Committee at BU for the
successful organization of the Rally to end Racism in Binghamton on Friday,
November 1 st . The event followed the arrest of an incident which occurred
outside Dillingers Celtic Pub on State St in which an African American BCC student
was denied entry and the owner and bouncer were caught on video yelling racial
slurs as he was arrested. More than 250 residents attended the rally from 7-9pm
on First Friday encouraging local business owners to sign a pledge to end
discriminatory practices in downtown Binghamton. The organizing committee
consisted of faculty, staff, students from BU and BCC in addition to community
members and business owners.

Graduate Internship Opportunity

The Multicultural Resource Center is looking for a graduate intern for Spring 2014. The graduate intern will work 12 hours per week and receive up to 3 internship credits.

Responsibilities:

Coordinate community outreach and provide support for the MRC Fall 2013 programs

Review and update the MRC Website contents periodically to ensure all programs are publicized accordingly

Design and prepare MRC newsletter and other promotional materials with the MRC undergraduate interns

Plan and implement the MRC Bi-weekly Diversity Talk series throughout the semester

Assist in designing and compiling assessment forms of all programs sponsored by the MRC

Attend the weekly staff meeting and report to the MRC Director on a regular basis

Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Must be accepted into a Binghamton University graduate program for the 2013-2014 academic year

Must demonstrate the ability to work with diverse groups and cultures

Experience in research methodologies is highly preferred.

Responsibilities:

To manage the MRC social media accounts

To update and maintain the MRC website and calendar

To assist with creation and distribution of the MRC monthly newsletter

To help with developing marketing campaigns for programs and events

To decorate and maintain the MRC bulletin board

MRC Program Assistant Interns

Responsibilities:

To reach out to student groups to encourage participation in MRC programs

To organize and maintain outreach materials

To assist the MRC director and other staff with all aspects of event preparation

To attend weekly staff meetings and to attend cultural student group meetings

To assist with other tasks as assigned

Hours:

Minimum 8-10 hours per week throughout the semester.

Qualification:

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office)

Desire to learn and work in team Experience working in an office preferred
