SIMPLE PRESENT

Usa-se o Presente Simples para expressar:

a) um fato, uma situao atual ou uma condio geral. Ex: I live in Braslia.
b) uma ao ou acontecimento habitual. Ex:I get up at 7 oclock every day.
c) verdades universais. Ex: Birds fly.
d) aes futuras planejadas. Ex: The plane leaves in 20 minutes.
Para conjugar qualquer verbo no Presente Simples, basta retirar a partcula to do infinitivo do verbo e acrescentar
S, ES ou IES 3 pessoa do singular (veja regras abaixo).
Regras para a formao da 3 pessoa do singular no Presente Simples:
a) Regra geral: acrescenta-se S no final do verbo. Ex: She swims every day.
b) Verbos terminados em SS, SH, CH, X, Z e O: acrescenta-se ES no final do verbo.
Ex: She watches TV in the afternoon.
c) Verbos terminados em y:
- se o y for precedido de vogal: acrescenta-se apenas o S. Ex: She plays the piano.
- se o y for precedido de consoante: substitui-se o y por i e acrescenta-se ES. Ex: He studies at night.
d) Exceo: Verbo to have (ter) na 3 pessoa has. Ex: He has two brothers.
Formas Negativa e Interrogativa
Nas formas negativa e interrogativa usa-se o verbo auxiliar do nas formas do ou does, que no possuem
traduo em portugus, apenas ajudam a formar a negativa e a interrogativa das frases.
Usa-se do quando o sujeito for I, You, We ou They e usa-se does para a 3 pessoa do singular, ou seja,
quando o sujeito for He, She ou It. Quando utiliza-se o verbo auxiliar does na 3 pessoa do singular (tanto na
forma negativa quanto na forma interrogativa), o verbo principal perde o S, ES ou IES que se acrescenta na
conjugao da forma afirmativa. Na forma negativa, usa-se ainda a partcula de negao not junto com o auxiliar
do / does, que posicionado antes do verbo principal das frases.
Na forma interrogativa, usa-se o verbo auxiliar do / does no incio da frase e o ponto de interrogao
no final da frase.
Observe a conjugao de alguns verbos nas formas afirmativa, negativa e interrogativa na tabela abaixo:
