The definition of suicide in dictionary is Act of killing yourself intentionally.

On other hand, the thought of suicide is known as suicidal ideation. Suicidal ideations are the thoughts of killing oneself which includes a deliberate and detailed plan for ones suicide. According to some authors, suicidal ideation doesnt include the final action of killing but others say that the ideation contains all of the planning from start till the final act of killing. It is also found that most of the people who experience the issue of suicidal ideation dont actually carry out the suicide. Nordqvist (2013) found that some of the suicidal ideations are deliberately planned in such a way that the person wants it to be failed or to be discovered by other people such as his/her family members, colleagues or friends so to have sympathy and to carry out their desired ambitions out of it. Neuner, Schmid, Wolfersdorf, and Spiel (2008) found that one fifth of the people who actually tried or be successful in committing suicidal attempts had already discussed their future actions with healthcare professionals or their doctors during their counseling sessions. According to Wenzel et al. (2011), there could be many reasons of coming to the decision of committing suicide such as some of the people feel hopeless, or feel trapped in their present circumstances and problems. There are also many other reasons such as feeling higher state of anxiety, or they are very moody and touchy to some particular issues. A study conducted by Appel (2007) showed that some of the people who have changing personalities they are more prone to commit suicide. The author also found many other reasons of committing suicide such as change in routine, having drugs, change in sleeping pattern, feeling depression, consumption of alcohol, feeling attached or having affair with someone, having the possession of guns or something which can end life, getting criticism from someone or feeling the situation of high self-criticism, feeling the situation of high rate of panic attacks, feeling unable to make social interactions such as making friends, or having sex, feeling isolated, or having the habit of saying

good-bye to someone as it is their last interaction. All of these people are more prone to commit suicide. Now the question arises that either committing suicide is just the personal choice of the person who involved in this action or it is not. This is intensely discussed topic in the current literature. Some of the researchers and psychologists think that it is the choice of the person that either he/she want to live or not. It should be the soul choice of the person for his own life. If he feels such a pain or sorrows from his life then he must have the choice to end his life. There are many researchers who think that it is the legitimate right of any individual to take or finish his or her life to come out of any kind of pain, misery, emotional disturbance, or psychological distress. There can be found many arguments in the current literature which speak about in favor of the stance that suicide is an individual personal choice. The authors such as (Schafer, 2013; Schramme, 2013; Wade & Reiter, 2007) said that it is true that suicide is immoral but on other hand it is also a solution to a bigger or real problem. They also highlighted that this action can be taken by any person with complete right as a last resort when the person feels completely lost and feels it impossible to come out of a particular problem. Tonooka (1999) argued that no one should be left in the situation of suffering a pain rather it should be admissible to provide a person with an escape from the long suffering with the help of giving the person a complete right to finish his or her life. There is another theory which is in favor of the standpoint that it is legitimate authority of someone to finish his life as the authors such as Mendelson and Bagaric (2013) argued that in situations when life becomes burdensome to someone and only and only death can bring peace and release suffering out of that person condition then death should become a refuge for the person. This theory is known as idealism. According to Sacharoff (1972) work, it can be found that the author did not regard the act of committing suicide as an immoral

activity and take it as legitimate action when nothing in the world bring peace to that person other than death. The author also regarded moral freedom as highest level of ethical aim and according to him it can only be achieved by giving a right to any person for his or her fate, life or death. There is another argument which is made by authors such as Schafer (2013) that persons life belongs to them only and they are the only one to decide for it. No one in the world has the right to force his or her thinking on any other person for taking anything right or wrong. The person who feels that he or she should kill himself to bring him out of suffering and pain of life then he has all the rights to make this decision. This theory is known as liberalism. But most of the other researchers think against it. In the current literature of this issue for thinking suicide is not a personal choice and suggests that anyone must not be allowed to end his or her life in any circumstance. There are so many philosophical theories and studies which make clear standpoint that suicide is unethical and tend to be immortal. Lazarus and Kalafat (2001) stressed that it is very clear that the major reasons of committing suicide are such as economic hardship, depression, anxiety and emotional pain but he further added that these issues can be resolved with the help of any good psychiatrist or healthcare specialist. He suggested that these are not the issues which are impossible to be resolved but because of these issues and problems it is strongly not admissible and advisable to commit suicide. Most of the healthcare specialists and psychiatrists specialized in the area of suicidal prevention commonly use an argument that suicide is a permanent solution to only a minor and temporary problem. Some of the authors (XYZ) highlighted that in some of the conditions people might face the situation of severe emotion distress and pain which could be nearly impossible to be resolved and the person be in this situation feels completely hopeless that his pain would never leave him but even these kind of pain and situation can also be resolved with the help of proper counseling. Lopez-Castroman

et al. (2011) admitted that the situation of severe emotional pain can take longer to come out it but it is not impossible to feel and come to normal life again. There is an argument made by the philosophers related to a school of thought named as Absurdism. The authors such as Neuner et al. (2008) thoughts that the action of committing suicide is just the rejection of freedom and everyone on the face of earth must live their life passionately. They also suggested that people must not derive illusions and inherent meaning of something by their own rather they must live life wholeheartedly. Vaknin (2006) also named suicide as the divine irresponsibility which is done by anyone who tries or be successful in finishing his or her life. There can be found many research studies which oppose that the argument that suicide is a personal choice or right as Vaknin (2006) stated that suicide is ultimately an evil and by doing so the person refuses to take any kind of interest in existence. The researchers who think against the democracy of choice of suicide stressed that the person who tries or be successful in committing suicide is actually destroys the entire world and the life or death of a particular person does not solely affects that person but also the society and group of people around him or her such as parents, friends, siblings, wife and his children. The life of any person is strongly connected to the lives of other people around him. So the person has no right to destroy the life of other people and this becomes the reason which suggests that suicide is not a personal choice only. There are many other authors who come up with different approaches to prove that the act of committing suicide is not a personal action and they strongly oppose this action. (Schramme, 2013) exerted that the person who wants to commit suicide should first justify the fact that either the act of committing suicide is a universalize act or not and either the person would wish this action be taken by any other person of his family or society as a whole. The answer is clearly No. So, if the person doesnt think this action of committing suicide fit for

any other person then why should he or she thinks it legitimate for himself. There is another theory which is known as social contact theory and researchers from this school of thought reject any kind of right demanded by any individual to take or finish his her life. They strongly in favor of the Leviathan ideology which forbids any person to do anything harmful or dangerous for his or her life and it is also against the natural law. According to Schramme (2013) breaking of this natural law in any kind of extreme circumstances is unethical, immoral and irrational. In the end, after assessing the current literature for both in favor and against the issue that Suicide is a personal choice, it can be easily said that not in a single situation suicide should be taken as personal choice. It is clearly not a personal choice. The lives of so many other people are strongly attached to the life of the person who commits suicide. The action of committing suicide is also against the natural law and researchers are very right to say that suicide is an immoral, unethical and irrational activity. It is never a personal choice rather it is death of the society as well. So as far as my understandings are concerned, I am against the argument that suicide is a personal choice.
