A critical review of Another intelligence?

Nowadays, coupled with intelligence quotient, a measurement of ones intelligence, emotional intelligence, which reflects ones ability to perceive and control emotions and behaviors, has been paid more attention to by the society. The article named Another intelligence gives the readers some insights into this issue. In the article, based on Daniel Golemans book Emotional Intelligence, Why It Can Matter More Than IQ, the author argues that emotional intelligence is composed of 5 key elements. The first one is the emotional awareness, or in other words, knowing ones own emotions. This mentions ones ability to recognize his or her emotional state and identify which emotion is being experienced. Emotional consciousness can lead to the second element of emotional control embracing ways to dealing with emotions, including uncomfortable ones. Self-motivation is regarded as the third area, peoples emotions can concurrently give them empowerment and hindrance in their behaviors. The following is recognizing other peoples emotions. Leading on from this is the last one in Golemans 5 elements of handling relationship. Goleman also suggests emotional intelligence should be a factor in assessing peoples competence and, as a result, need reinventing. Another bright side of the article is that its quite convincing with numerous evidences. After briefing the readers the interpretation of each element of emotional intelligence, the writer gives a series of examples to clarify them. For instance, mentioning the ability to manage ones emotions, the author takes the case of people buying chocolate or treating themselves when they feeling low as one of ways to dealing with uncomfortable emotions like jealous, envy, anger, etc. However, the limitation on the articles findings must be considered. In the study, the author proposes emotional intelligence as a new way of describing competence but he doesnt explain the reasons. Also, he doesnt suggest any manners to reinvent communication skills related emotional intelligence either. In conclusion, despite its limit of findings, the article succeeds in presenting readers interesting knowledge and information about the emotional intelligence and it may encourage further researches on this issue.
