Verse 1
Verse 2
Verse 3
Gideon arrived just as a man was telling a friend his dream. I had a dream, he was saying. A round loaf of barley bread came tumbling into the Midianite camp. It struck the tent with such force that the tent overturned and collapsed. 14His friend responded, This can be nothing other than the sword of Gideon son of Joash, the Israelite. God has given the Midianites and the whole camp into his hands.
13
When Gideon heard the dream and its interpretation, he bowed down and worshiped. He returned to the camp of Israel and called out, Get up! The Lord has given the Midianite camp into your hands.

During that night the Lord said to Gideon, Get up, go down against the camp, because I am going to give it into your hands. 10If you are afraid to attack, go down to the camp with your servant Purah 11and listen to what they are saying. Afterward, you will be encouraged to attack the camp. So he and Purah his servant went down to the outposts of the camp. 12The Midianites, the Amalekites and all the other eastern peoples had settled in the valley, thick as locusts. Their camels could no more be counted than the sand on the seashore.
Unison Scriptures
7:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. EXODUS 1:13-22 (NIV) and worked them ruthlessly. 14They made their lives bitter with harsh labor in brick and mortar and with all kinds of work in the fields; in all their harsh labor the Egyptians worked them ruthlessly. 15The king of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives, whose names were Shiphrah and Puah, 16When you are helping the Hebrew women during childbirth on the delivery stool, if you see that the baby is a boy, kill him; but if it is a girl, let her live. 17The midwives, however, feared God and did not do what the king of Egypt had told them to do; they let the boys live. 18 Then the king of Egypt summoned the midwives and asked them, Why have you done this? Why have you let the boys live?
13
6:00 p.m. MARK 4:35-41 (NIV) That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, Let us go over to the other side. 36Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. 37A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, Teacher, dont you care if we drown?
35
The midwives answered Pharaoh, Hebrew women are not like Egyptian women; they are vigorous and give birth before the midwives arrive. 20So God was kind to the midwives and the people increased and became even more numerous. 21And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families of their own. 22Then Pharaoh gave this order to all his people: Every Hebrew boy that is born you must throw into the Nile, but let every girl live.
19
He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, Quiet! Be still! Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. 40He said to his disciples, Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith? 41They were terrified and asked each other, Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!

These are just some of the terms that come to mind when I think of Lt. Arlington Swan. Affectionately known as Lieutenant, I would offer that not many of us would even recognize his given name, Adam Arlington. Lt. Swan watched over the congregation here at Trinity UCC for nearly 20 years, starting his career here in 1993, and becoming a member in 1995. A few months ago, I asked for your fervent prayers, as Lt. Swan had experienced health challenges and multiple surgeries. Your love and support for him was greatly appreciated. On Wednesday, October 16, 2013, we learned that Gods chief gatekeeper for Trinity United Church of Christ, our beloved Lt. Swan, went Home to serve with Peter at the Gates of Heaven. Lt. Swan's funeral service was held this past Wednesday. We thank God for bringing this giant of a man to Trinity United Church of Christ and we thank his family for sharing Lt. Swan with us as a member of our staff and the Trinity Church family. The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord and he delights in his way. Psalm 37:23 (KJV) Please continue to pray for Lt. Swans family.

The movie, 12 Years a Slave, directed by Steve McQueen, is based on the 1853 memoir of Solomon Northrup, a free black man from Saratoga Springs, NY, who is abducted and sold into slavery. The story tells of Northrups 12 years as a slave and his fight for survival and freedom, while retaining his dignity, in the pre-Civil War United States. OCTOBER IS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH
What is domestic violence? Domestic violence is the willful intimidation, physical assault, battery, sexual assault, and/or other abusive behavior perpetrated by an intimate partner against another. It is considered one of the most pressing issues in American society; an epidemic affecting individuals in every community, regardless of age, economic status, race, religion, nationality or educational background. Violence against women is often accompanied by emotionally abusive and controlling behavior.
Did you know One in every four women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime Men, as well as women, are victimized by violence. One in every fourteen men has been physically assaulted by a current or former spouse, cohabitating partner, boyfriend/ girlfriend or date at some point in his life Females who are 20-24 years of age are at the greatest risk of non-fatal intimate partner violence Boys who witness domestic violence are twice as likely to abuse their own partners and children when they become adults Most cases of domestic violence are never reported to the police; only approximately one-quarter of all physical assaults, one-fifth of all rapes, and one-half of all stalking perpetrated against females by intimate partners are reported to the police. What to do? If you or someone you know is a victim of domestic violence, get help immediately your life depends on it!
