ELECTED OFFICE EXPERIENCE: Presently, I am the Town Clerk. I first served on the Norwalk Common Council from 1993 to 2001; I returned to the Council in 2003 and served until 2011. The length of my service on the Common Council gave me the opportunity to serve on most of THE Council Committees. Because I was raised in Norwalk , and have been active in our community since I was a teenager, I have been able to bring a unique perspective to serving the needs of all our citizens. As a member, and then Chairperson, of the Recreation & Parks Committee, I worked to improve the public spaces in all neighborhoods throughout Norwalk . I have served on the committees which oversaw some tremendous, and much-needed, construction projects in Norwalk from the expansion of Naramake and renovation of Brookside Elementary School to the improvements to the Norwalk High School athletic fields. Other committees I chaired as a councilman were Health, Welfare and Public Safety, Personnel, and Ordinance. I served the council as both Majority, Minority leader, and Council President. Over the course of close to 30 years of public service I have also been elected Justice of the Peace and Constable.

To utilize the fiscal integrity for all TTD 's utility business To promote and enhance value oriented utility services for all of TTD's customers. To continue the growth of the TTD business model at the new Substation. 1. Continue to serve as chief financial officer of the Sixth Taxing District 2. 1. Support New Superintendent in Reform Agenda 2. Funding Focus on Private Dollars 3. Contract Negotiations Support new Superintendent and long term strategic plan Funding focus to attract private dollars & to negotiate contracts that prioritize student achievement and provide some taxpayer relief

1) Assist the BOE and new Superintendent of Schools to improve our education system and increase the educational acheivement of all its students. By so doing, our High School graduates will be better prepared to enter their young adulthood with the tools necessary to chart their course in this world. Whether this means continuing their education in college, trade/technical school, or other "avenue" of their choice, he/she will become a model citizen, contibuting to our great City, State, and Country. 2) Represent the citizens of Norwalk on the BOE and assure them that we are being fiscally responsible with the hard earned money they entrust us with via the taxes they pay. 3) Contribute to providing an environment on the BOE that is cooperative, civil, and focused on the betterment of our public schools and its students. By so doing, the BOE will be better able to confront the many different challenges our students face in the classroom and in todays society. 1. We need to continue to invest and support our Early Childhood initiatives. As a board member I will continue to advocate and stress the importance of children being exposed to an Early Learning environment. Children need to be socially, emotionally and cognitively ready to succeed. I have first hand knowledge since I operated my own Early Childhood program for 6 years.I understand and value and am committed to making sure that we continue to support Early Childhood and to ensure that children are developmentally ready to enter kindergarten. 2. We need to continue to improve the communication between the board, Central Office and the community. It is imperative to work well with other board of education members and to demonstrate effective transparent communication. Norwalk Public Schools has 11,000 students and has 19 schools. We need to have a strong central office to support this. We have already started to do this by having hired our new nationally recognized Superintendent . I am committed to continuing to work on getting more members of the community to our Board of Education meetings and to have our web-site updated so that it is user friendly and accessible.

Embrace Norwalk demographics to better serve all students equally Tackle funding issues with strict focus on students and fiscal sensitivity to our entire community Accelerate the development of more quality after school enrichment programs 1.The need for a comprehensive community strategy to address the following issues in the Norwalk Public Schools system: (a) The Academic Achievement Gap; and (b) The high percentage of students who consistently perform academically below the state average. 2.The need for the B.O.E. to adapt a facts-based decision making process, whereby all budgetary and curriculum decisions will use data and facts to consider the impact the decision would have on the goal to improve the academic achievement of all students. 3. Ensure that teachers receive an effective level of training, support services, and tools to maximize the use of

We need to embrace Norwalk demographics to better serve all students equally. Creating an inclusive climate where all children feel valued is a step toward closing the achievement gap. We also need to see how much of the budget is actually going toward educating our children and we need to do this with fiscal sensitivity to the entire community. We dont want to pit tax payers, senior citizens or those who live on fixed incomes against the school system. Curriculum is another area to tackle. Learning should be hands-on and fun, not a chore or simply a means to an end. Ive come across many performers and programs that enhance the curriculum and make learning come alive for students. In our quest to ensure that each child is educated properly, administration and the board need to look at the relationship between enrollment and resource allocation and agree on a set of clear and measureable goals to detect issues early on. It still boggles my mind that a child can enter middle school and not know how to read appropriately. Numeracy is equally as important and should not get lost in the stressing of literacy. We also need to bridge divides between teachers, students and parents while holding all equally accountable. Please see the local links area of my website, harrisboe.weebly.com, for a list of the many community partners rallying together around the success of our children. It is my hope that parent s will learn more about these organizations to bring more diversity to the table. We still have a long way to go with really listening to and understanding each other.

1)I would restore dignity and professionalism to the office of Norwalk City Sheriff. I would reestablish trust in that role by serving papers and special notices with discretion, compassion, and efficiency. When Norwalk closed its Social Services Department (circa 1983), a growing communications gap emerged between residents in need and available providers of social services. Currently, some residents are turning to our Emergency Management staff at the Fire Department or the Norwalk Police. Others are wary of approaching the police, even though help is available. As City Sheriff, I would continue building relationships with our local Domestic Violence Crisis Center, Police Department, and CT Legal Services to help facilitate their community outreach efforts. 2)Norwalk has experienced several difficult budget cycles, wherein services that should be essential had to be put on the wish list. Thats why I cast the only NO vote against giving the Mayor a whopping 21% raise, from $114,524 to $138,468! As City Sheriff, Id like a small budget to support outreach efforts; however, that budget should not come from overburdened taxpayers. Upon election, I would create the Sheriffs Scrappy Leadership Fund -to be held in trust by the City for exclusive use by the City Sheriff- to sponsor events that benefit Norwalk. I pledge $1,000 per year from whatever I earn serving papers plus the full pre-tax value of the current City stipend for City Sheriff ($150 per year); if each constable contributed just $50 per year to the $2,300 Im pledging, the City Sheriff would have a $3,000 budget to supplement efforts by our Community Police, DARE Officers, and DVCC volunteers to reach Norwalkers in need! 3)Our next City Sheriff can easily function as an unpaid public safety advocate for the people of Norwalk. Adding these duties is not a matter of increasing the Sheriffs powers or changing the City Charter; its simply a decision by the person who wins this election to speak out on issues impacting public safety. As your Councilwoman, I have advocated for traffic safety with parents from Roton Middle School (in pursuit of a Safe Routes to Schools Grant) and with the Coalition for Sensible Development (in opposition to shoehorning BJs Superstore onto a small Main Ave site). I spent five years on the Mayors Youth Services Advisory Board (including one year on the Greater Norwalk Local Interagency Service Team) tackling issues like gang violence prevention and increasing access to mental health services. I served as one of Norwalks representatives to the Board of Directors of the South West Regional Planning Agency for four years. After the horrific school shooting in Newtown, I founded the Norwalk Chapter of Connecticut Against Gun Violence and rallied Norwalkers to participate in CAGVs March for Change. As a member of Newtown Action Alliance, I have been working to bring NAAs resources to Norwalk to help our youth learn non-violent methods of conflict resolution; as your next City Sheriff, I would be able to continue these efforts and build upon them. 1. Actually do the Job as described: There shall be a City Treasurer elected in accordance with the General Statutes of the State of Connecticut. The duties of the Treasurer shall be to examine the records of the Comptroller insofar as they relate to cash receipts, and the City Treasurer shall certify to the Director of Finance the accuracy

Maintain fiscally responsible government, keep taxes in check, maintain our AAA rating. Support the Norwalk Board of Education, help move new facilities projects forward. Continue to make Norwalk a business friendly community. Support public safety in our community. 1. I will work to craft operating and capital budgets that balance the overall needs of the city (including the necessity of maintaining our AAA bond rating and property funding our schools) with the needs of taxpayers. 2. I will continue to work closely with the Board of Education to ensure that our schools receive the funds they need to implement the common core curriculum, raise academic standards, and improve school facilities. 3. I will continue to respond to all communications from constituents and will work diligently to address whatever problems or concerns they raise.

1)Fiscal stability of the City of Norwalk. Norwalk must maintain its AAA bond rating maintained by Mayor Moccias administration through continued sound fiscal management, without which Norwalk will join the State of Connecticut and other Connecticut cities that are experiencing serious financial problems. These problems jeopardize sustaining, and obstruct improving, the essentials of education, public safety, infrastructure, and quality of life, not to mention increased taxes such as we are experiencing on the state level. 2)Education Work with the Board of Education to enable adequate funding for operating expenses, teachers with the highest level of qualification and competence, and advancement of security and physical improvements to facilities. 3)The value of residential and commercial real estate, availability of affordable housing, and success of our small and large business.

Education Economic Development Crime

1. Collaborate with others to address the heavy tax burden and promote smart growth to increase the tax base. 2. Support the educational system and provide the funding needed for a first class public school district for all students. 3. Address safety concerns with our youth by offering an alternative life choice through guidance and direction to reduce public safety issues.

1. Education 2. Public safety/street maintenance 3. Taxes

1. Offset residential taxes by attracting industry and high tech companies. 2. Control traffic growth and congestion. 3. Keeping our streets and schools safe and well maintained.

I have three priorities, but I also recognize the need to balance the budget and maintain and improve services with what is affordable to the taxpayer. My priorities are: To seek to maintain the status of Norwalk's AAA bond rating. This rating is extremely important because it sends the message to investors that Norwalk is fiscally sound and a community worth investing in. The fiscal health of our city can be maintained by creating opportunities to reduce the city's operating expenses, such as the recent privatization of refuse and recycling which has saved the city over one million dollars per year without laying off any employees. Some of my opponents did not support this cost saving due to the interest of special interest groups. To seek to continue the multi-million dollar investments in our school system as we have done so during this term. I have supported, and will continue to support, funding for school building improvements, technology for our schools, and the tools necessary to implement the Common Core. I will also join Dr. Rivera, our new superintendent, to reform the state's ECS (education cost sharing formula) that has continued to shortchange Norwalk's students by 20 million dollars per year. As a council member over the last two years, I insisted on open communication between the Board of Education and the Common Council to work with the education budget to assure adequate funding. To seek to keep Norwalk's aggressive investment in improving and maintaining Norwalk's infra-structure. This includes roads, bridges, parks, pedestrian ways, and drainage. I will also continue to ensure that our police

ADVOCATING FOR WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT AND FAIR WAGES ADVOCATING FOR LOCAL UNION JOBS ADVOCATING FOR SEASONED SENIORS Taxes Public Safety Economic Growth Taxes,Education and Public Safety If elected I plan to work towards: 1) Helping ensure our educators have the resources they need to restore our education system and also helping ensure that quality community support programs are available for our youth and their families. 2) Improving Public Safety by working with the community and police in a collaborative not combative manner. 3) Ensuring that single parents, the elderly, college graduates, young professionals, etc. can afford to live in

1. Building bridges of cooperation, of understanding. 2. Advancing the diversity of community by listening to the people who are the community 3. Returning the industrial/manufacturing base that has long since vanished from Norwalk. 1. Because I represent South Norwalk, my first priority is getting jobs into the district. One way to do that would be to resurrect the Enterprise Zone ordinance that was in effect from 1957 to 1979. That could provide incentive for businesses to come in to South Norwalk, renovate the vacant buildings that scar the landscape, and employ people from the impacted area. 2. My second priority is public safety. We've made a dent in crime, but people still don't feel safe. Some of that is justified; some of that is long memories; but if you perceive a crime problem, then we have a crime problem! 3. My third priority is an extension of the first: we need to attract more businesses to Norwalk to take the pressure

1. Stopping property tax increases for the foreseeable future is the top issue I will address, if elected. With a 3.9% property tax increase already slated for 2014, residents must be reassured that taxes will not increase for the foreseeable future. With budget reform, alternative revenue streams and proper economic development, Norwalk can have a stable financial future, without raising taxes. 2. Improve Economic Development I will diligently work to raise the standards for new economic development, by creating jobs that pay workers enough to live in the community without the need of state assistance. I will support new economic development projects that offer good jobs and increase city revenue. Elected officials often use new development for political gain, leaving the public unaware of its possible negative impact. By shaping our future with development that creates little city revenue, increased traffic and low income jobs, we are setting ourselves up for future financial struggles. If elected, I will put the best interest of the city ahead of my own political gain. 3. Improving Education As a father of two children in the Norwalk public school system, I am very concerned with the quality of their

Maintaining the city's AAA Bond Rating. Keeping taxes low. Ensuring that our schools/BOE have the funds they need so that our students receive a quality education. I will hold the line on any proposed tax increases. During these tough economic times, even a small tax increase is felt by all Norwalk taxpayers. Every family has had to budget more carefully and our municipal government should be no different. After serving on the Common Council the past two years and having been involved with the operating and capital budgets twice, you develop a sense for what is a need or a want. You must limit the expenditures and yet still fund all the necessary day-to-day operations and projects so Norwalk remains a safe, wholesome, and great city to raise a family in. By reinvesting prudently in our schools, paving roads, expanding our park system, supporting our police and fire departments, we are reinvesting in our future without sacrificing the quality of life for the present and future of the citizens of Norwalk. You want to continue to attract new developments. One of the ways to pay for any increase in our city's expenditures is to expand our grand list. There is nothing more precious than our children. We must all work together to ensure that our education system has all

Quality of life....including education,taxes,city services

If elected to the Common Council, I will work hard to ensure Norwalk continues to be a place both lifelong and new residents will be happy to call home. Although a lifelong resident of Norwalk, I have seen Norwalk through new eyes during the last few years both as the wife of a teacher and a recent home buyer. I understand the importance of keeping taxes in check for all residents, and I will also work to keep the AAA bond rating that has been fought for and maintained. There are so many unique assets in Norwalk - Calf Pasture, Lockwood Mathews Mansion, and Cranbury Park to name a few they are all important and need to be maintained for everyone to enjoy. Also, I want to see our schools succeed so that our children are prepared for all they encounter in this ever changing world. We need to fully fund our schools to ensure that they have the best teachers and resources that are needed. I support the collaboration between the Mayors Office and the Superintendents Office to update our school security plans, and I will work to make sure that our children are safe while in school. I understand that these are only a few of the issues that the city faces; however, I am dedicated to provide the time, effort and commitment toward these and

1. Maintaining the AAA Rating of the city through prudent financial controls 2. Keeping tax rates as low as possible by working more efficiently and effectively 3. Continuing to ensure the BOE has sufficient funding to accomplish its mission, but in keeping with 1 and 2. EDUCATION: Norwalk does not receive its fair share of Educational Cost Sharing Funds. This inequality must be addressed. Educational resources must be tailored to ensure literacy among all Norwalk children. Achievement gaps in higher grades are rooted in lack of reading proficiency in third grade and below. By giving extra help to children with reading problems in K-3, we will not only close that gap, but will achieve an overall rise in literacy in all subequet grades. JOBS: Because small businesses create the most jobs, and expand the tax base, it is imperative that we encourage small business entrepreneurs to start up their businesses here by providing one-stop assistance for all their start-up needs. Developing incubator programs that link job training to Norwalk Community College and our high schools will help keep young people, and jobs, here in Norwalk. LIVABILITY: Many of our roads and sidewalks are in poor condition and I will work to ensure that they are repaired

Protect our Coastline--- we need a plan for the continued threats of storm damage, storm runoff and clean water. We need a master plan with our eye on the future trends in Norwalk Protect our Tax Dollar Investments---we need to do a better job providing oversight and accountability on how we spend our tax dollars and how we invest in projects to benefit the public. Diversify our Tax Base--- we need to plan for more office space and fewer box stores to take the tax burden off the residential property owner 1. To keep Norwalk a strong investment for businesses and families by maintaining the AAA credit rating. 2. To continue to work for economic growth in the city. 3. To ensure that the Board of Education has the resources they need so our schools prosper.

My priorities are simply to dop a good job as a constable to discharge my duties with integrity and to help with the due process of law.

1. A first-class education for all our kids 2. Economic development that promotes smart growth, job creation, and reduces the burden on residential taxpayers 3. Ensuring the city handles quality of life issues including providing safe streets for vehicles, bicyclists, and pedestrians, clean streets free of trash, and paved roads

1. I am committed to making sure that the Town Clerks office reflects the values and spirit of our incredible City. The history of our city is in the hands of the Town Clerk, and I will work hard to preserve and apply for grants to restore and preserve our Town records. 2. We must maintain the Town Clerks office as the place where all citizens know that they will be treated courteously and professionally. This means keeping politics out of the office and empowering the professional staff to continue working collaboratively. 3. I will continue to upgrade our systems to better to serve the public and help the staff work more efficiantly. This will include public input through newsletter or surveys to make sure we are listening to their concerns.

What sets you apart from your opponents?

concern citizen, compassionate for people in the community high cost of electric, property tax I bring over 25 years of experience with all aspects of the electrical utility operations. I know many of the past and present employees of the TTD, CMMEC (the electrical supplier to TTD), and NEPPA North East Public Power Association. I have in depth knowledge of engineering, design and maintenance of the transmission and distribution systems. As a home owner in East Norwalk for the past 15 years and a home owner in South Norwalk for 12 year, I am truly dedicated in seeing the Third Taxing District Electrical Department in East Norwalk continue being not only a leader in reliable electrical service, but a utility that is known to have the best service and rates for its community.

While I do not know my opponent, I can only speak for my Integrity and relevant experiences.

While I do not know my opponent I stand on my integrity and my relevant experience. I am running unopposed. I am cross endorsed by the Republican party. I believe this is a testament to my conducting the affairs of District Treasurer in the non-partisan tradition of my predecessors.

I was president of the Norwalk Education Foundation, the non-profit of Norwalk Public Schools for 6 years, I'm an NPS parent, and PTOC executive secretary. I know many school staff and administrators, union leaders, private funders, parents, and community organizations. I also possess 27 years experience in business, non-profit management, and entrepreneurship with focus on international.

I have spent nearly 30 years in the banking/finance industry. My experience in this industry has taught me many lessons and honed my skills in finance, budgeting, managing and working with people from all walks of life, understanding complex financial situations, and negotiating with groups and individuals. In addition, my love of learning and education has afforded me the ability to be an Adjunct Professor at New York University where I teach Real Estate Finance and Investments. Over the past eight years, I have learned a few of the many challenges and requirements teaching represents. This background gives me a glimpse into what it takes to develop a curriculm, teach it effectively, and engage my students so that they can challenge themselves and become life long learners and excel in their workplace. Finally, witnessing first hand with my wife the very many issues students face in school today. Whether that be scholastic, social, or relations with teachers, coaches, staff, and other administrators. Being active parents in the lives of our girls provides us with insight that will benefit me as a member of the BOE.

I am the only candidate that brings a "unique" perpective by having 3 children in the Norwalk Public Schools. All three of my children are in 3 different schools at 3 different levels - Elementary, Middle and High School.

Honestly, we have very good candidates running for the board of education and we all have an array of wonderful qualities and strengths. Therefore, I will list two qualities that have helped me most in life and the one of the things I've done for education that I am the most proud. 1) I like people and I interface well with people from many cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds. 2) Because I care and can relate to people who are different from me and from each other, I have often acted as a bridge builder. 3) It doesnt take me long to study a situation, measure it accurately and come up with a solution. I did not set out to work with children. Children sort of chose me back in 1990. They and their got into my heart to the point I spent a year writing a play about the overall plight in education as I saw it at the time. That play was read at the New York Public Librarys Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture and produced by the Stamford Center for the Arts. The play really resonated with the high number of children in both settings and I think in the end there was a fairness to the sides of the teachers and the parents who sometimes don't or can't understand each other. Administration was a different issue altogether. The sad thing is that many of the same issues are still around today. 1) I have had a broad exposure to a large cross-section of public school students and teachers: I have had direct experience with a range of students in (Norwalk and NYC) public schools including some who have achieved academic success, and others who have faced a range of challenges I have been able to closely observe the passion and dedication that good teachers invest in students, and the challenges they face with students who do not achieve/excel academically. 2) My multi-cultural life experience provides me with a unique perspective and reach that will provide added-value to the B.O.E., and value in engaging the parents and the community to help Norwalk overcome the educational challenges that exist. Honestly, we have very good candidates. We all have individual qualities and strengths and it will be good to have diverse talents at the table. I, personally, try to understand others and tend to act officially and unofficially as a bridge builder. For the most part, I care about and naturally interface well with people from many cultures and socio economic backgrounds. I try not to make fallacious assumptions based on rumor or outer trappings. I have a proven track record for positive change in my career as a childrens librarian. Passionate is normally the word people use when describing my approach to my work. An academic librarian in North Carolina respected my work so much he nominated me for a national library advocacy award that I received. I am still very honored by that gesture. A childrens librarian recognized my name during a conference in California and I was recruited to her wonderful library system in Missouri. I am now on the policy-making end of my career, but the decisions I make still affect children. I never set out to work with children. Children sort of chose me back in the 1990seven before I became a parentwhen I worked as a substitute school librarian. They got into my heart to the point I spent a year writing a play about the plight in education as I saw it at the time. That play was read at the New York Public Librarys Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture and produced by the Stamford Center for the Arts. It is very sad that many of the same issues are still around today!

Every other election for City Sheriff has been about how that title can benefit the winner; winning entitles the Sheriff to earn money by serving papers for attorneys and special notices for the City. My campaign slogan is Serving Papers AND Serving Norwalk. There is no reason our next City Sheriff could not function as an unpaid public safety advocate for the people of Norwalk. I chose not to seek re-election to the Common Council because I believe I can create more good through advocacy as City Sheriff, even though I would no longer have the power to vote on important issues like the annual budget. Constituents who have grown to trust me as their Councilwoman, and who know I can relate to issues of domestic violence (because theyve read about the 2008 murder of my bichon, Scrappy), may find me more approachable than an unknown police officer or DVCC volunteer. I can help connect people in need to the people who want to help. City Sheriffs, constables, and others who serve papers essentially play the Rosencrantz and Guildenstern role in peoples lives; they are minor players in what can be a pivotal, emotional day in somebodys life. They are the bearers of very important news, such as impending divorce, a looming school expulsion, or even happy legal news. As an undergraduate at Harvard, I studied psychology and served as Co-Director of RESPONSE, a rape crisis hotline. A decade ago, I worked as a summer intern for Connecticut Legal Services; I assisted CLS attorneys with intake interviews as they visited their clients at the NEON/SNCC building. In January, the Connecticut Legislature was considering implementing stronger gun safety legislation. I hosted the Norwalk Gun Safety Legislation Forum to bring a diverse group of stakeholders to the table, including: two State Senators; four State Reps; our Fire Chief; our Police Chief; a Norwalk BOE member who also champions the Connecticut Citizens Defense League; the mother of a murder victim; four Common Council Members; the local head of Moms Demand Action; and the president of Norwalks NAACP chapter. My guest speaker was Dr. David Bernstein, a forensic psychologist and board member of the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals. Although I would never support CCDL, I am proud that a CCDL member told the press he felt our discussion was inclusive and respectful of all viewpoints. Because of my forum, Dr. Bernstein was invited to testify before the General Assembly Subcommittee on School Safety. He is being considered for a gubernatorial appointment to Connecticuts Board of Firearms Permit Examiners, a body that currently includes NO mental health professionals. People who do have the power to vote on important issues of public safety got connected to a world-renowned threat assessment expert at my forum; as Norwalks next City Sheriff, I could bring more experts and more resources to Norwalk to help our legislators.

I will actually be campaigning for my team. Not the position I am seeking. I am a second generation Norwalker and have served my community for 31 years with the Norwalk Fire Department. In my 13 years as Fire Marshal, I have met many builders, developers and architects and they all commented that they were very pleased with the accomodating nature of all of the departments they had to deal with to secure approvals for their projects. I am proud to have been a part of that process and am committed to continue to make this city business friendly. I have grown up in this community and have seen many changes for the better. I am dedicated to Norwalk and it's citizens and will do all that I can to continue it's possitive forward tradjection. I have spent a good part of my life teaching at both the college and elementary level. The experience and knowledge I have gained has enabled me to make solid contributions to discussions and debates that pertain to school funding and school construction. I take bipartisanship very seriously and will not allow partisan maneuvering or political pressure to block or even slow down what's in the best interest of the city. Although I am a registered Democrat, I have always worked closely with Republicans on both the Common Council and the Board of Education and, as a result, this year I was nominated as a Council candidate on the Republican ticket.

I was a Senior Vice President, General Counsel & Secretary and member of the Board of Directors of a global consumer products company. I have over 25 years experience as a legal and risk management advisor to CEOs and international senior management teams. I am a strong communicator wiht skill at developing and sustaining long term multicultural business and client relationships in the U.S., Europe, Latin America and Japan. What sets me apart from other opponents is that first I'm Latino. I am a young professional in the financial services industry and currently the youngest person on the Common Council. I'm single with no children. I come from a troubled or challenged backgroud. Born and raised in South Norwalk, my father left when I was 10 and left my family on state aid. I have lived in every district of Norwalk except Distric E. Today because of my education and hard work, my family has been able to live the American Dream. That is purchase a home and start up a small business. I have grown up with diversity and understand the complex situations low income folks go through. I have worked hard to get to where I am in life and although I live across town from where I grew up, I do not forget where I came from. I am a native of Norwalk and desire for the City that was instrumental in my success and career, to blossom again as it once did in past decades. I am an independent thinker. None of my affiliations restrict my open-mindedness thereby allowing me to focus on obtaining only positive results for the community. This style of leadership will also help as I engage and collaborate with business owners and residents to seek their perspectives on possible remedies for our citys concerns. As an elected official, I will have a fresh perspective on the issues that concern our city and will utilize my skills, knowledge, and abilities to work with others in finding solutions to the issues facing Norwalk. Lastly, Im motivated to see positive impacts reverberate throughout Norwalk and its my hope that my efforts will positively affect all residents of Norwalk. I want to run for Common Council because it is a great opportunity for me to make a difference for all the citizens of my home town and this seat would be a great start for me to begin to make the difference that is needed. I also believe that if the people can see a young Haitian American male whose parents are immigrants in an elected position in Norwalk; our young people will work harder in school because they will know that if I can do it so can they. Being involved with politics and a broad range of civic and charity groups, I've had a lot of experience bringing people together to understand their various viewpoints and to share ideas. Chairing the Human Relations Commission helped me learn about many diverse populations in Norwalk, working with them in ways to solve problems, celebrate success and move forward as a community.

I dont feel it is about setting any one council candidate apart, but rather, it is about each candidates ability to come together in the decision-making process. My style is to utilize the talents and strengths of everyone at the table where open debate is encouraged in an environment of mutual respect. I have a proven ability to reach across party lines to accomplish goals that continue to make Norwalk a vibrant and economically stable community for all. I have been very fortunate to be elected council president four times by my peers. Three of those four times I was not a member of the majority party. As a council at-large candidate, I offer experience and a renewed passion to serve. I also offer a professional business background, as well as past and current community involvement, to provide the foundation and resources to assist and support my peers. Lastly, I offer the ability to make tough decisions that may not be politically expedient but necessary for the long-term health of the city.

I have worked in South Norwalk for a non profit agency for 15+ years, where I have gained extensive experience assessing the needs of people throughout the Norwalk community. Being a Social Worker, I believe there are no limits to human potential, I intend to utillize my education and talents to help create better living conditions for the people.

What sets me a part is: 1) I will bring a fresh perspective to problems that have plagued our community for decades. 2) I will actively seek constituent input before making major decisions that will affect them. 3) I will focus on making sure our youth have what they need to be successful, productive members of the community.

Not much, expect am not adverse to change, accepting new ideas and listening. I have two ears to hear more, to eyes to see more and one mouth to talk less.

Aside from my education, life experience, work experience, and legislative experience, what truly sets me apart is that I vote my conscience and will not cower to pressure from either my political party or contributors. I only answer to the electors.

As a Norwalk business owner for over twenty years and a lifetime resident, I understand the needs and concerns of my community. With a career in construction and property management, I regularly deal with large budgets that require group approval. Experiences that will help me be a positive addition to the Common Council. I follow Common Council and committee agendas closely and I am ready for the elected office I am seeking. With my career experiences and a clear understanding of council duties, I will be prepared on day one. The head start that my opponents did not have. Involvement. Since moving to Norwalk I have been involved in the community through my volunteer work. In 1985 when we first moved to Norwalk I volunteered at Norwalk Hospital. I then began volunteering through the Junior League of Stamford- Norwalk where I chaired the Pet Companions project. We trained and took dogs to area long term care facilities for a visit with the residents on a weekly basis. When I became the director of RSVP we took over that program and continued it only based in Norwalk. I have served on the board of directors of the then United Way of Norwalk & Wilton, been president of the then East Norwalk Improvement Association, mentored a young man for twelve years through the Norwalk Mentor Program a program of the Human Services Council, served on the Norwalk Parking Authority and the Norwalk Human Relation Commission. Being on the council is hard work. It's not about showing up for a meeting twice a month. It's about reading the council packet, all of the back-up material and understanding what you will be voting for a the meeting. It's about research, asking questions. Attending assigned committee meetings and again being prepared. I've done the work and I hope to continue to be able to do the work involved in being on the council.

I am a businessman. As the owner of My Three Sons, I know what it takes to manage a successful enterprise. Running a city should be no different. Keep your expenses low "taxes," spend within your means by getting the biggest results for your buck by eliminating waste. Expect to pay a good wage for a good day's work. You must plan for the future by reinvesting in your infrastructure. Most importantly, listen and respond in a timely manner to your customers "the people of Norwalk." They are the reason you are where you are today.

My long time involvement in the Norwalk Community...including my years as City Clerk to Mayor Bill Collins where i was responsible for assisting in managing many of the city departments

I am a lifelong resident of Norwalk. When my husband Joe and I began to look for homes earlier this year there was never a question that we would be continuing to live in Norwalk. I love this city and have always wanted to be a part of the Common Council so I am excited for this opportunity. I am one of the younger candidates running for Council this year. I think that my life experiences thus far will help me contribute to the Council but I can also help in bringing new ideas and a perspective of the younger generation. I think my time on the Oak Hills Authority has taught me a lot. I understand how important it is to work collaboratively within your own committees but also with the different departments at City Hall as other groups such as the BET. I am someone who works on problems, finds solutions and gets them implemented. I don't believe in public service for personal gain and I don't believe in mindlessly following a political party's agenda. As a leader, I set my own agenda and goals and get support to achieve them. I don't cave in to bullies or special interests and in fact, I am the one who stands to fight them. I focus on helping to make Norwalk better and not on political litmus tests.

A rich and varied life experience on several continents gives one a very broad, and unusual, perspective on life. I grew up during the bombing in London in WWII. That experience, and the difficult post-war years, taught me the value of community, cooperation and conservation. Ive rebuilt an old sailboat and sailed it throughout Europe and across the Atlantic. I know what it's like to be a single mother working at three jobs to make ends meet. I've laid bricks, hung sheetrock, painted ceilings, learned to weld and fixed the plumbing. And, Im still that jack of all trades, a housewife. I've always supported myself in the private sector and understand what it is like to be poor, alone and without resources.

I am an independent thinker and an experienced voice of reason. My guiding principal is that public service is a responsibility of good stewardship, to make improvements to the city where possible. So, when problems arise, I listen to, then weigh all the factors to find practical, workable solutions. Good stewardship also means being an strong advocate, and protecting Norwalkers from aggressive special interests.

Integrety, passion, Business credentials, Norwalk resident for over 60 yrs. Street smarts as well as intellect for all that I endevor to do.

I am very proud of the work Ive done in the city of Norwalk as Police Chief. For 17 years I managed one of the citys largest departments in an open, transparent, inclusive, and accessible way. My police officers knew they worked as public servants and acted accordingly. Having worked with all department heads in the city, I have a clear understanding of where the city runs well and where improvement is needed. I hope to bring that management style to the entire city.

For Norwalk s residents, the Town Clerks office provides a vital number of services and is also a place where many outsiders get their first impression of our City. Because I have a lifetime of service to Norwalk s families, I have true insight into how to best meet the needs of our diverse community. With more than fifteen years of service on the Common Council, I have brought to the Town Clerks office a critical understanding of how to provide fiscally prudent upgrades that improve the effectiveness of the office for residents.I have demonstrated the ability to successfully lead a diverse staff. Combining leadership in city government, management experience and a lifetime of dedicated service to our City, I am uniquely qualified to serve my hometown as our Town Clerk.

Many years experience on Wall Street in high level positions. Hopefully Maturity and Wisdom. MY ECXPIRIANCE SERVING PEOPLE,HAVING RUN MY BISSINACE IN NORWALK FOR 18 YEARS AND LEAVING

Three children, all attended Norwalk Public Schools, 2 have graduated.

My girls, which starts with my wonderful wife and best friend of 23 years, Maria; she gave up her career as a commercial banker after our youngest was born to raise our girls. She's my rock. Our three daughters, Marialena, Gianna, and Annalise (and of course our German Shepherd, Callie) are our pride and joy. A graduate of Brien McMahon, Marialena is entering into her second year at St. Anselm College in New Hampshire. Her charm, compassion and intellect will one day make her a top notch nurse. Gianna, entering into her senior year at McMahon is evaluating colleges and plans on a career in the Fashion Industry. She is intelligent, dynamic, a born leader and a great soccer player. Our youngest Annalise is completing her wonderful years at All Saints. She has a passion for soccer, basketball and music; studying the violin since she was 3 years old. Not to be outdone by her sisters, she too is a great student and great friend to all.

I am married to Robert Keyes for twenty one years. Bob is a local attorney in Norwalk. We have 3 children. Our oldest son Jordan is 17 and a senior at Norwalk High School. Our middle daughter Hannah is 13 and in 8th grade at West Rocks Middle School and our youngest daughter Rebecca is 10 and a 5th grader at Columbus Magnet School. Both Bob and I attended Norwalk Schools and are graduates of Norwalk High School class of 1981. We live in the Silvermine section of Norwalk. We have two dogs. Ras is a King Charles Cavalier who loves to relax and Remi is a rescue who enjoys digging holes.

I come from a big family. I grew up with a lot of love and support and the older I get I just appreciate my family more and more. Of my six siblings, I have a special needs sister who is my staunchest supporter, but never fails to remind me that she is the oldest when I get out of line. I have an autistic Godson and from one of his parents, my dearest friend in the world, I've learned quite a bit about the spectrum and which states offer more in terms of services and education for children with autism. My moms background is in psychiatric and administrative nursing and it was from her that I learned empathy. Both of my parents were big on education. My mother received a classic education and, while today people talk about being good in math or writing, my mom is equally good in both. She was educated during the 1940s and the 1950s. For years, I have been pondering what has changed in education and why. Both of my parents had a great work ethic and were big on helping others. They were not ostentatious with their generosity. They were simply people who could be counted on and people who did not betray confidences. Some family members had key positions in the community, but I never thought to rely on that advantage. I attended public schools most of my life and I had a few teachers from within my community who I know cared about me because they looked out for me, but they would not tolerate nonsense. After leaving home to strike out on my own, I could certainly relate to the theme song for A Different World, a spin-off series of The Cosby Show. I have one child in Norwalk Public Schools who, by age three from family visits, had picked up on the spirit of the different regions in our country. We were blessed to count Kelly Braddock, Georgia Mack, Sue Remson, Keesha Sullivan, et al. among the positive spirits for us in Norwalk Public Schools. They had high expectations. They were passionate about the subjects they taught and they genuinely cared that their students mastered them. They demonstrated the very same etiquette they ask their students to display. Character education is just as important as academic subjects. While it can or cannot be taught as a subject, the mere demonstration of it is often infiltrated through osmosis. Additionally, these teachers understood student privacy and protection. I never heard them gossip about students or their families, not even slightly in passing. They took the time to grow up. They were secure. They motivated their students and made them believe they were valued members of the class. We trusted their brand of education.

My wife, Lupita Williams, and I have lived (on Bayne Street) in Norwalk for 30-years. Lupita, has been a 3rd grade teacher at Columbus Magnet School for 22 years. We have two children, Omar & Nadia Williams, who attended Norwalk Public Schools: Cranbury, West Rocks, and Norwalk High. Both were in the Academically Talented program and the National Honor Society, and Nadia was in the Artistically Talented program. Both enjoy fulfilling careers Omar in public law (in New Haven), and Nadia in education (in Manhattan).

I grew up with lots of love and support in a large family. I have a special needs sister who is my staunchest supporter. I have an autistic Godson and I've learned quite a bit about the spectrum and which states offer more in terms of services and education for children like him. My moms background is in psychiatric and administrative nursing and it was from her that I learned empathy at a young age. She received a classic education and, while today people talk about left brain v. right brain and being good in math v. writing, my mom is equally good in both subjects. For years I have wondered what has changed in education from the 1940s and 1950s to now. My mother did not grow up with a silver spoon in her mouth, yet she was educated well. Both of my parents stressed education. Even still, I dont recall teachers judging students by whether they had one or two parents. It was all about expectation. Both of my parents had a great work ethic and were big on helping others. They were not ostentatious with their generosity. They were simply people who could be counted on and people who did not betray confidences. I attended public schools most of my life and I had teachers within my community who looked out for me. I have one child in the Norwalk Public School System and Kelly Braddock, Georgia Mack, Sue Remson, Keesha Sullivan looked out for her. I want to give children the same opportunities I had. I want them all to have teachers like these.

Perhaps my greatest influence, relevant to running for City Sheriff, was my best friends dad, the late Judge Lawrence Hauser. He was like a surrogate father to me during the twenty years since my own dad passed. He performed my wedding ceremony. He helped me get a court order to protect my family after my dog Scrappy was found shot to death in my backyard. I found out at Judge Hauser's funeral just how influential he had been in creating Connecticuts first dedicated docket for domestic violence cases. His funeral was my last day as Minority Leader; his passing influenced my decision to focus my efforts on becoming Norwalks next City Sheriff rather than seeking re-election to the Common Council. It is a small way for me to honor him by continuing his work without having to become a lawyer myself! I like to say it takes three women to fulfill the duties of one Indian daughter: my eldest sister, Anuradha (this generation's Dr. Duleep); my middle sister, Arundathi (who cares full-time for my nephew and niece); and myself, the youngest, who has the flexible schedule necessary to become our disabled Mom's primary caregiver. I've been a proud stepmom for 17 years, even through divorce. My stepson, Darin, graduated from Kaynor Tech in 2007; at 24, he has grown up to be a successful, happy plumber and new homeowner. My mom, Ganga, is an Advanced Master Gardener with The Bartlett Arboretum; she is better known as "the lady gardening in the orange hat" or President of Friends of Ryan Park. My late father, Dr. K.S. Duleep, was one of the first recipients of the Scallon Award for Innovation in Surgery at Norwalk Hospital, where I was born.

Mother is Nelsy Pea, 58 yrs old, small business owner - Nelsy's Hair Salon. Brother Mario Pea, 34 yrs old recently graduated from Norwalk Community College 2013, transfering to Stamford UCONN. Sister Stephanie Pea, 30 yrs old - in the Fashion Industry NYC A few years ago, my sister who was 25 years old at the time, suddenly was diagnosed with stage four cancer and died seven months later, leaving behind two wonderful little girls. Shaken by the news, I had to immediately make a career decision by leaving my life as I knew it in order to return to CT and care for them. This decision has forever changed my life, as my nieces have shown me the true meaning of love and selflessness. Though I could never replace their mother, I made a promise to my sister that I would love and care for them as if they were my own. I intend to keep that promise as long as I live. My desire to run for office is greater than just an elected position; its a desire to see the city I was once nurtured by become the city I want for my family and all residents.

My parents are hard working immigrants that came from Haiti and they have taught me the meaning of hard work and dedication. I am the oldest of four boys and we all have done well in school and are on our way in life and it is all due to our parents.
