Activity Worksheet No _____ Safety Measures during Certain Types of Weather Objective: Practice safety measures during certain types of weather. 1. Observation Study the pictures below. Tell something about the pictures.

II. Questions What is shown in the first picture? What kind of weather does the first picture show? Is it right to make your house stronger when there is a coming typhoon in your area? What do you think would happen to the house in the picture, if the house was not secured by ropes & pegs? What kind of weather is shown in picture 2? What does the boy do to protect himself from the rain? If he would not wear raincoat or use an umbrella, What do you think would happen to him? How long do farmers stay under the sun when planting crops? Is it good to be exposed to the heat of the sun for too long? What do farmers do to protect themselves from the too much heat of the sun? What would happen to them if they would not wear salakot & long sleeves?

What weather is shown in picture 4? What does the boy do so that he is not exposed to too much suns heat? What illnesses would the boy catch if he would be exposed to suns harmful rays?

III. Hypothesis Human and animals lives and properties like houses buildings and agriculture are proned to damages where there are typhoons. Illnesses like cough and colds fever and flu are common during rainy season. Sore eyes fever and flu are common illnesses during hot season. The heats of the sun or the ultraviolet rays are harmful to the human skin. IV Experiment Activity 1 Materials: plant box miniature house made from a matchstick electric fan tabo Procedure: 1. Place the miniature house at the centre of the plant box. 2. Turn the electric fan directly facing the house & set it to the highest mode. 3. Observe what happens to the house. 4. Pour water using tabo in the house. (Make sure the volume of the water you pour is in great amount) 5. Use ropes and pegs to make the house stronger then turn the electric fan and pour water again. Then observe. Activity 2 Materials:

soil 2 empty milk cans Procedure 1. Put some soil in each of two empty milk cans. 2. Sprinkle water on the soil. 3. Place the cans of soil where there is sunlight leave them for 2 weeks. Guided Questions: 1. What happened to the house when electric fan was turned to the highest setting? 2. What does the wind from the electric fan represent? 3. What happened when a great amount of water was poured to the house? 4. What does the water in the experiment represent? 5. What happened to the house when you secured it with ropes and pegs? 6. Were the strong wind and water able to destroy the house? 7. What is the kind of weather is shown in our first activity? 8. If your house is not too strong, what should you do to avoid destruction of your house during typhoons? V.Results,Discussion,Analysis and Interpretation of Data In what ways can you prepare yourself during stormy day? sunny day? Which safety measures should you practice during certain types of weather? What diseases are common during rainy days and also during sunny days? Interpretation of Data Changes in the weather affect people, plants and animals. It is important to be prepared for any changes in the weather. We should apply safety measures to practice during certain weather conditions. VI.Conclusion I therefore conclude that we must always be prepared for any changes in the weather. VI .Application Why should you avoid staying outside under the heat of the sun?
