We celebrate 2nd October as "Gandhi Jayanthi", every year, across India.Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on 2nd Oct 1869 in Porabandar. After class 10th, MK Gandhi joined the Samaldas College in Bhavanagar, where he found it difficult to study, coupled with uncongenial atmosphere. At the same time, his father had died in 1885.A friend of the family suggested Gandhi to take his father's place in the state service, and that he should become a barrister which he could do in England in three years. So, at the age of 18, he sailed for England for further studies in 1888.Gandhi studied Law in University College, London and returned to India in 1891 to practice. In 1893 he took on a one-year contract to do legal work in South Africa. Gandhi stayed in South Africa for 21 years working to secure rights for Indian people.
