We celebrate 2nd October as "Gandhi Jayanthi", every year, across India.Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on 2nd Oct 1869 in Porabandar. After class 10th, MK Gandhi joined the Samaldas College in Bhavanagar, where he found it difficult to study, coupled with uncongenial atmosphere. At the same time, his father had died in 1885.A friend of the family suggested Gandhi to take his father's place in the state service, and that he should become a barrister which he could do in England in three years. So, at the age of 18, he sailed for England for further studies in 1888.Gandhi studied Law in University College, London and returned to India in 1891 to practice. In 1893 he took on a one-year contract to do legal work in South Africa. Gandhi stayed in South Africa for 21 years working to secure rights for Indian people. Negative impact of 'Technology' on 'Students': ASSOCHAM Survey

The recent survey held by ASSOCHAM has revealed that, nearly 82% of kids aged 5 to 12 have some kind of electronic device, especially in metropolitan cities, which can lead to negative outcomes such as social isolation, insomnia, depression, anxiety, obesity and mental health impact.In a countrywide survey, conducted by the ASSOCHAM Social Development Foundation under the aegis of its Social Development Foundation, on "Who's kidding? : A Rising Trend In Metros" has revealed 82% of kids aged 5 to 14 have their own mobile phone, tablet, iPad etc.Mr. D S Rawat, Secretary General ASSOCHAM while releasing the highlights of the survey said, "easy availability of technology with lack of parental supervision is a significant reason for this ever-increasing menace of technology addiction".An aspect, which emerged out of this survey, is that children of working parents are found to be more technology addictive in the absence of parental supervision, as compared to those whose single parent is engaged in employment. This trend is abundant in metros where normally both parents are employed, reveals the survey.The survey was conducted in ten major cities of Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahemdabad, Lucknow, Jaipur and 2500 tech savvy kids (an equal number of both male and female) were randomly interviewed by an ASSOCHAM team

Why JEE 2013 aspirants left Mathematics questions unanswered

Joint Entrance Examination (JEE 2013) Advanced entrance exam students left maximum questions unanswered in Mathematics subject.The highest score for JEE 2013 is 332 out of 360. At 92.2%, it is quite less than last year's 96%.JEE Advanced exam paper contains two papers with questions from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics order.JEE aspirants felt tough to answer the Mathematics questions in examination."Considering the fact that quantitative skills are an extremely important component of the testing process, it is proposed to change this order to mathematics, followed by physics and then chemistry," said the IIT-JEE (advanced) 2013 report."We have noticed that most students start attempting the paper with chemistry or physics. We have suggested that mathematics be given more importance," said JEE-2013 convener H C Gupta.According to the reports, only 23 students managed to score 300 out of 360. Over 326 students scored above 250 marks.According to the sources, board planning to provide some easy questions, that students can easily answer the questions in the examination."The competition thickens as one travels down along the rank list," said an IIT-JEE Chairman.About 96.6% freshers took the exam in 2013, as compared to 80% in 2012.About 30-45% students allotted seats at the older IITs were successful on their second attempt. At IIT-Roorkee, 44.6% of the candidates cracked the JEE on second attempt. That percentage stood at 32.7 at IIT-Delhi, 29.6 at IIT-Bombay and 38.6 at IIT-Kanpur. Over half the students allotted seat in IIT-Jodhpur and ISM Dhanbad were also trying their hand the second time."This could be due to the choice of branches of the candidates," said JEE-2013 convener Gupta.For the year 2014, JEE Main examination will be held on 6th April, and JEE Advanced examination will be held on 25 May
