BUILDING LIGHTING AUTOMATION THROUGH THE INTEGRATION OF DALI WITH WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORKS Abstract
An embedded system is a special-purpose computer system designed to perform a dedicated function. Unlike a general-purpose computer, such as a personal computer, an embedded system performs one or a few pre-defined tasks, usually with very specific requirements. Since the system is dedicated to specific tasks, design engineers can optimize it, reducing the size and cost of the product. Embedded system comprises of both hardware and software. Embedded system is fast growing technology in various fields like industrial automation, home appliances, automobiles, aeronautics etc. Embedded technology uses PC or a controller to do the specified task and the programming is done using assembly language programming or embedded C.
Project Description Energy demand is the rising problem in todays world. So it is necessary to solve the energy crisis problem. It is essential to monitor the energy consumption in household devices. This project focuses on the integration of Digital Addressable Lighting Interface (DALI) devices in wireless sensor networks. Since different manufacturers usually deal with one aspect of building automation - e.g. heating ventilation and air conditioning, lighting control, different kinds of alarms, etc. - final building automation system has different subsystems which are finally taken to an integrated building management system. Usually the cost of this monitoring process is consequently increased due to additional hardware investment. The main purpose of this project is to provide a wireless sensor network which acquires the data from all the home appliances. In this project different sensors are placed in the building which senses the data and it is given to the microcontroller. The microcontroller sends the data to the wireless sensor node through Zigbee module. The datas can be monitored by the PC at the end system. This concept reduces the initial investment of the system.
