Cancn Accommodations
Location, Location, Location
Cancn features numerous distinct hotel areas beyond the traditional, the Hotel Zone and downtown Cancn. There are two new emerging areas that offer a whole new experience. They are Puerto Jurez/Playa Mujeres coast (north of downtown and facing Isla Mujeres) and charming, relaxed Puerto Morelos (22 kms south of the airport). Within each area there are distinctions, advantages and drawbacks to consider. These are important to share with clients. Beach type (calm-waves), level of development (commercialized, quiet), proximity to attractions (bus or cab to get around), budget, and ambience will all become factors in counselling clients where to stay. Cancns well-known Hotel Zone refers to a 14-mile long strip of land on Cancn Island. This area is beautifully refurbished and constantly manicured. The legendary beaches were restored in early 2010. Here hotels sit next to each other, offering a choice of accommodations for every client. No matter where guests stay, they are within walking distance or a short bus ride away to a variety of Cancn attractions. The Hotel Zone is also the site of numerous nightclubs, restaurants, shopping malls, and water-related attractions, such as Wet n Wild, AquaWorld, and over a dozen marinas. TIP: The northern Punta Cancun region has more developed and clustered shoppingdiningnightlife. The southern region of Cancun Island (Punta Nizuc) is quieter, and devoid of development outside the hotels. The Hotel Zone is less than a 20-minute drive from the international airport - a real plus for clients used to traveling in the Caribbean, where a 60-minute drive from the airport is not uncommon. filled with shopping malls, restaurants, nightclubs, car rental firms, banks, and shops. The area is not beachfront; however, many properties have beach club agreements with beach hotels. Downtown hotels are less expensive. Clients whose interests lie beyond the beach and want to save some money, can benefit by staying in one of themore value-priced properties in this area. North of downtown and near the Puerto Jarez and Punta Sam ferrys, hotels are starting to develop. This area is referred to a Playa Mujeres. A 18-hole Greg Norman-designed course (one of Mexicos best) will some day soon surround real estate and lodging developments. For now youll find the deluxe Villa del Palmar Cancun, and the all-inclusive Sea Adventure Resort). Guests staying in this area have easy access to Isla Mujeres a short 20-minute ferry ride, and downtown Cancun. And lets not forget Puerto Morelos. 22 km. south of the Cancun Airport is this jewel of a town. Hotels here run the range from AAA Five Diamond winners, to deluxe all-inclusive dazzlers, to small budget choices. Most resorts here are beachfront and just to the north of the city center. Recommend this location for those seeking a small Mexican town setting, with Cancuns big city amenities just 30 minutes away

How to Acquire Luxury Clients

If you dont already have clients that you sell luxury travel to, here are some tips as to how to acquire them. Know the product, and the client, inside and out. Sell the experience, not the price. Work your personal network, such as club members, friends, and relatives. If your world is mid-scale, join an upscale host agency. Dress and speak the part for selling luxury products. Be confident in what you sell. Plan your strategy to develop a luxury business. Cull your clients to focus on the high end.

Hotel Ratings
The hotel rating system used by Mexicos tourism industry is based on an extensive study of 16 different hotel rating models from around the world. The system is explained below.

a One to Five Stars: one star being the most limited of services, and five stars having superior amenities and international standards. a Gran Turismo: the highest rating in Mexico, reserved for properties with exceptionally high quality amenities; a notch above five stars.

a Categora Especial: reserved for special properties that possess distinct features beyond those included in the star ratings. These might include an historic location (i.e. a converted convent or colonial mansion), a special location, or a truly unique style of architecture. This rating system should be used only as a guideline. It is based solely on a set of physical amenities (pools, air conditioning, number of restaurants, etc.) without regard for features such as location, service, historical significance, maintenance, etc. It does not carry any specific pricing significance either, except for the fact that prices usually rise with the number of stars. It is not uncommon to find four star, and sometimes even three star, properties that surpass higher rated hotels in terms of service and quality. For most international visitors, we recommend using only three stars and above.

Your challenge in selling Cancn hotels is not in finding nice accommodations, but in matching clients with the right experience. Remember that the hotel is key to customer satisfaction.
