Nicole Barton/Queen Abrianna It is in my opinion that the City Chapters would benefit highly from careful planning of short

and long term goals as well as being restructured. The focus of development should aim to 1 require each individual chapter to do the necessary research and footwork to gain acknowledgement from their respective institution, 2 create a charter (under advisement of an E-board member) that clearly establishes how the chapter will fulfill the goals of the organization while creating or fulfilling needs of the campus community, 3 function in conjunction with the E-board (playing the part as an advisory board) as a colony. It is not necessary for us to operate under other organizations definition of a colony, however adjusting the foundation that each chapter was built upon will prove successful. I know first-hand that the Alpha lines of the Beta and Gamma chapters crossed their without a set of objectives and solid plan of action to carry out after they were initiated. How the restructured city sect is presented to the public is up to the Public Relations officer (with input from the requirements of the individual institution and its members), however as far as internal relations and functions go, having the Beta (BMCC) , Gamma (school closed), Delta (WCC) and Epsilon (Monroe) chapters operate in conjunction with and under the advisory supervision of the E-board. In order to come up with a secure plan, each chapter should satisfy each of the following points while

Analyse the external environment of the collegiate institution. Analyse the internal environment of the collegiate institution. Define the focus of the chapter and reinforce the sororitys mission. Set annual objectives of the following mode: - fundraising -open community services -open social events -open round table -showcase event -open multi-level intake program Formulate strategies to implement and follow through on annual objectives. Make tactical plans to secure and follow through on annual objectives. Build in procedures for monitoring and controlling the quality and quantity of output each semester on both organizational and institutional levels.

It is also in my opinion that city chapters as a whole should operate in teams. Having one person responsible for one type of task has proved to cause undue stress and strain on individual morale. Having sisters work together in a more organic structure (as opposed to a hierarchal) to complete goals should prove to be more efficient. Proof that this structure is effective has been shown with the team involved in the city chapters Spring 2012 pledge class and probate. Because each sister was able to participate in the intake process with their own individual creativity and strengths (in reflection of the organizational goals), we were able to enforce quality not only in our prospect, but also in ourselves. I am fully aware that embodying the goals of the organization on a daily basis is a vow that we took when we became Queens, so I believe if the sisters involved in the

city chapter are required to first and foremost channel organizational goals into growth, development and visibility that we can ensure consistent and satisfactory results. The main issues that plague the development and growth of these chapters are the need of a viable outline and plan of action as each individual chapters lack of enough people to be efficient on its own. In my opinion, I believe there should be twice as many sisters as there are operational positions. Having sisters scattered throughout the city makes efficiency impractical. In order to lay a foundation to develop each site to the point where they will be able to run independently of the other segments of the organization, there must be an advisor for each position to train and guide each applicant until they are able to coordinate successfully autonomously. The goal for each chapter should be fulfilling the requirements set by the collegiate institution as well as the sorority in order to gain autonomy in their semester activities. Because the city chapter is in such close relation to alumni, I believe it is in the best interest of the growth and visibility of the entire organization if while each city chapter is striving towards independent status, the E-board assists them by coordinating certain activities for them to carry out. For example, there has been an interest in coordinating a formal for next fall. It would be desirable for the E-board to organize the background (time, date, location, catering, travel etc) and the women in the city chapters to play the supporting role (advertisement, selling tickets, Public Relations, visibility, networking amongst other organizations.) Because we are blessed with sisters who have varying levels of understanding and ability, we can restructure and honor the cycle of rebirth within the sorority.

Intake in the city should be conducted with the attitude of growth. Interviews should be conducted with a discussion about what each prospect WILL do once they become a sister instead of what they have to offer. Potential of prospective interests should be handled as just that; potential. It should be stressed to prospects that in order to prove their potential, that they will be required to prove it during the initiation process by coordinating and following through particular tasks. These tasks should include a community service event, social events (sisters only), fundraiser for their line dues and they should also be made to regularly convene as a board (as outlined in the pledge documents (president, secretary etc).
