Project 10S-A-1 / 10S-AI-1

Every student shall select a subject for Research project of an Architectural interest, Experimental work, dissertation or a combination. The nature of the problem shall be based on the synthesis of their total experience and knowledge gained from the allied subjects. Emphasis, shall be laid on the approach to the design solution rather than the end-result. The subject of the project shall be approved by the Department at the commencement of the term. The students shall have to give at least one seminar on their subject. On the prescribed data students have to submit to department a bound report of the project, containing identification of the problem scope of the work, data collection, case studies, analytical studies, and its application to the final design solution. On the date prescribed by the Nagpur University, final and finished drawings with models etc. shall be submitted in the department, for the Final Viva-Voce.

The aim of this subject is to expose the student to the most important part of his profession which is known a valuation. The Study shall include the topics as under: Unit 1Unit 2Unit 3 Aims and objectives of Valuation in respects of Building and land Essential characteristics of value, regarding the building. Factors affecting the value of built up property- supply and demand, cost of reproduction, occupation of value. Gild edged Security. Methods of valuation, such as rental method of valuation, land building basis, development method of valuation, valuation for rating purpose, valuation for Govt. Taxation, valuation for mortgage. Consideration of valuables in town planning, regarding the plots and development Objectives and principles of valuation tables.

Sessional : Notes, exercises on the above topics. Study and preparation of valuation report. Reference Books : Theory & Practice of Valuation by R. Namavati. Valuation of Real Properties by S.C.Rangwala.

Interior Workshop II

Objective of learning: The awareness will be given regarding various technical aspects, practical difficulties, onsite decisions which will strengthen the knowledge for handling and executing a project of interior design.

Workshops, guest-lectures, seminars organized for the students will include the professionals, consultants, skilled artisans etc. from various coordination fields from interior design.

Sessional work : The student shall submit the reports on various lectures, site visits etc.

Sustainable Development 10S-A-4(1) Sustainable of this subject aims to develop better understanding of sustainability in the context of built environment. It will raise the awareness of the built-world connection to environment issues and will provide opportunity for exploring the tools and methods for reducing the impact of development on immediate environment. Know what is sustainable building and living.
Unit 1Nature and man, Historical perspective, urbanization and its impact on the environment, urban climate, causes of global warming and ozone layer depletion its future effects, Development vs. Growth. Definition of sustainable development. Study of earths resources such as Land, Water, Air, Vegetation, its composition, qualitative aspects, availability and limitations, consumption of resources in built environment. Building materials review with referenve to environment friendliness, biodegradability and energy usage in its manufacture. Review of appropriate techniques and materials and its role in sustainable development. Water scarcity, minimum use of water, water conservation, techniques of rainwater harvesting, public awareness and participation. Solid and liquid waste management, sources of generation, disposal systems, recycling techniques etc. Energy consumption in built environment, renewable and non-renewable sources of energy, Energy and occupants, techniques of energy conservation in buildings.

Industrial Architecture

Unit 1- Locational and planning aspects of industrial areas with special emphasis on planning an industrial area, selection of site for an industry and site planning of an industry with varied considerations. Unit 2- Planning considerations for industrial working areas, study of indoor and outdoor working environment as related to industrial process of manufacture, human component as related to illumination, ventilation noise control, role of colour in working environment. Unit 3- Considerations of relationship between industrial spaces and structure. Review of structural systems used for industrial structures with general idea about materials for various components of industrial structure. Unit 4- Identification of services essential for industries, Demand calculation and system detailing of services like water supply, electricity, effluent treatment, communication etc. Unit 5- Study of environmental pollution as resultant of industrial activity. Review of enactment for controlling the pollution and methods of treatment of industrial pollutants. Unit 6- General study of various acts as applicable to construction and utilization of industrial structures such as Factory Act, Pollution Control Act, Explosives Act and review of legal formalities to be completed by Architect while working on an industrial project. Unit 7- Considerations of aspects of Industrial safety as related to hazards of fire and industrial process prove to be hazardous to persons working within the industrial spaces and industrial structures. Unit 8- Architectural Design considerations integrating aesthetical qualities in the designing and detailing of industrial structures with meaningful choice of architectural treatments, utilizing materials on the basis of cost, ease of maintenance and upkeep. Seminars are intended to develop the capacity of the students to work either in group or individually undertaking research in a given subject relating to architecture and interior design presenting his observations graphically and through a seminar presented in different stages. This is to equip the students finally with a skill to sale his project efficiently and effectively. Guideline can be as mentioned below. Seminar-I : Subject shall be allotted to group of students from the below mentioned broad categories (i) History of Architecture / Interior Design (ii) Appreciation/Critical a appraisal of Architectural & Interior based projects.

Research in Architecture & Interior Design.

Seminar-II This seminar shall be presented by an individual student on the subject relating to Interior Design. Marks shall be granted on the basis of documentation/Seminar presentation contents etc.

Seminar-II This seminar shall be presented by an individual student on the subject relating to architectural understanding of doctrine and work of great Master of Architecture, Review of publications on architecture by eminent authors, Individual project reviews etc. Marks shall be granted on the basis of documentation/Seminar presentation contents etc.

Objective of learning Assimilation of various aspects of space interior such as advanced services, acoustics, illuminations and developing the skills to design functional and meaningful interior space to meet the expected ambience. Theory Inputs Evaluation of design qualities Analysis and evaluation of design (existing and proposed) in terms of function, structure, materials and aesthetics.

Studio Inputs The process will deal with

Study of recreational spaces with special emphasis on knowledge of audio- visual communication, colour and light interaction, sound control system etc. Study of interior elements like product and furniture forms.

The design problems shall include Small Auditoriums, conference facilities, Hotel lobbies, Banquet halls etc.
